Well, you've read the notes, the notes were edible and fruity, and now it is time for you to post until the edible cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRENCHANT!
-
Notes witnessed. Welcomed.

Here is a French song, ostensibly about fruit salad.

I didn't know that...or if I did, I'd forgotten it.

Good morning, all!
-
Well, I blew it. I put the wrong appointment time in my calendar, and as a result I screwed up my scheduled Access-a-Ride trips. So, at 5:30 this morning I cancelled AAR for today, and I just rebooked today's appointment for tomorrow. I need to call AAR now and rebook those trips.
-
DR vixmom, I hope your health imroves ten-fold. I blame the Canadian fires. Supposedly, NYC had the worst air of any place in the US yesterday.
-
DR JohnG, the photos are great. I am living vicariously on them.
-
I had friends in L.A.who had persimmon trees in their yards.
Very tasty!
-
Good morning, singdaw!
-
Very cool that Alby conducted 2 Sondheim musicals at the Pasadena Playhouse.

The Pasadena Playhouse will receive the 2023 Regional Theater Tony Award on Sunday night.

Good morning, DR DR Iris!

I always enjoy your observations.

On the TCM Fan Page on Facebook, yesterday, Dora Epstein wrote:
Finally a Judy Garland movie I liked. The Clock!! She did not sing .. her voice just doesn't agree with my ears. Haha. Great actress.
I replied:
So terribly sorry for you because of your defective ears.
And then some Karen replied:
Shelly Lyn Marshall
Ron Pulliam wow. Not nice. Just because some of us do not prefer Judy and Liza's voices does not mean our audio receptors are defective. Sounds which one perceives as overly or pleasing are subjective, not objective. You seem old enough to understand both this concept as well as the one Thumper's mother shared in the movie "Bambi." You may need to pull the clip for a refresher.
I responded to her by saying:
Terribly sorry, Shelly Lyn, for your zero sense of humor.
Was I wrong?
-
I don't think I was, but then I may be a tad bit biased.

I call this one "Back Gate, with Clematis and Dog."

Good morning, all.

We seem to be in a sweet spot as far as getting all that Canadian wildfire smoke is concerned. We can certainly see the effects of it, but it's nothing like it's been in NYC one hour to the south.
-
Good morning, ChasSmith!
Hey, singdaw!
Best wishes, all!
-
I try to avoid confrontation on the Internet, joking or otherwise.
-
That "all", includes the "1 guest".
-
Except here, of course. 8)
-
My grass is being mowed as I type. It should be a beautiful day today, if a bit warm.
Tomorrow will be cooler...but only tomorrow.
-
That "all", includes the "1 guest".
I'm sure the "1 guest" is delighted to be included.
-
I had no idea Alby Potts conducted shows at the likes of the Pasadena Playhouse. That is excellent. BK sure has good people around him.
-
Tomorrow will be cooler...but only tomorrow.
After all, tomorrow is... ...another day.
-
Except here, of course. 8)
Well, there are some things that are simply BEGGING to be made fun of...like someone just popping out with how they don't like the 20th century's greatest singer because her ears just don't tolerate the sound of her voice.
Defective ears can be the ONLY excuse!
-
Perhaps the sun'll come out. Tomorrow.
-
Tomorrow will be cooler...but only tomorrow.
After all, tomorrow is... ...another day.
Tomorrow is Thursday. Or, Thor's Day, if you happen to be Nordic in any way.
-
Perhaps the sun'll come out. Tomorrow.
I think rain is called for, so the sun will struggle tomorrow.
-
I wonder if Alby is related to Caractacus.

Why stop now?

We are almost there.
-
Nope. No almost about it.
We're HEE-URRR!

Tomorrow I FINALLY have my eye consultation with the opthalmologist.
Opthalmology. Opthalmologist. Why doesn't the spellcheck like these? It's underlining each one and I've double-checked it. (I do have to think when I type one of those, and I'm careful about it.)

Why can't we have an OS that DOESN'T spell check everything until we ask it to...Nicely, of course.
Windows 95 was the last time it wasn't automatic. And it seems to get worse with every upgraded iteration.
-
It's like genealogy. (Which spellcheck apparently approves of. <--To end the sentence in a preposition.)
That "a" can trip you up if you're not careful.

Why the uncharacteristic silence, scrimshaw?
Are you getting ready for work?

Things I must do today:
Petco. For cat food. We're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

That was the MAIN thing.

The cat would say that pretty well covers it.

Today's Wordle in four tries. I had the second, fourth and fifth letters. Those offered quite a few different word possibilities.
Lucky today.

Yep. Logged in for work now.

Chris Licht is out as CEO of CNN.

Interesting to hear BK's approach in the coaching session.
When I played those auditions with director David Galligan who BK had worked with, he approached every person's audition that way, with almost total focus on how they communicated the lyrics. After they sang once, he'd have them talk about it and through it and then he'd tell me "no rhythm, no nothing, just some harmony, and keep it down", and he'd have them speak and then sing the lyrics with a couple of different kinds of emphasis. I'd say just about every person responded to that and significantly improved their audition just in that process.
It was a first for me, the director spending that much time doing actual coaching at the audition. The only person who didn't get that treatment was that one hapless individual who came in at the end, having no clue about anything.
And he did no readings. Not a word. Just the singing audition, and then the choreographer took them through some things, spending more time with them than one usually gets.

My DNA results from Ancestry.com have been published on my account:
I am 51% English/Northern Europe
I am 17% Scotland
I am 15% Wales
I am 10% Ireland
And 7% Norway/Iceland
I guess the sub-Saharan and wandering about Europe/Middle East DNA got lost over the millenia.

Addendum to the auditions repor:
His focus was on lyrics, but also very much on body language and movement. He really worked that stuff with every person.
This was fairly new to me, as I said. The directors I usually work with, who are excellent, nevertheless run a standard audition of hearing one song, sometimes a second, and maybe asking for some little change or other to get an idea of how the person can take direction, and doing a reading of one scene. Nothing out of the ordinary. Galligan was something else. It was like he fully intended to wring a cast out of this group, and wanted to know to a much greater degree what they were capable of. It was good.
-
I'm showered, dressed, and I almost feel like I'm ready for my own audition now.
But I'm only going to Petco.
-
Can his successor repair the damage, though?
Given that the majority shareholder is a right-winger, not likely.

So CNN is under the thumb of the far right.
Fox News is under the thumb of a conservative Australian and Saudi emir.
Too much news in this country is corrupt.

Having now gone out to the store and back and being outside for a few minutes, I have to take that back. We were showing lighter than the areas to the south and out west of us on the maps yesterday, but I expect I'll find things different when I check again in a few minutes.
The whole area now smells like a neighbor has a good fire going in the fireplace or in a wood pit, it's very "overcast", and I can see an orange-ish or pink-ish tint wherever the sunlight (what there is of it) is hitting something white, like white tiles.
-
DR George, those little guitars are cool.
-
Of course, the nice fireplace smell is everywhere, not just here in the neighborhood where, on some other day, it could indeed have been a neighbor.
-
I had to keep reading to find out why they are called coins.

LOL DR ELMORE.

Yes with all the windows in the house open here I can smell the smoke that DR CHAS SMITH was describing.

I don't think we watched POLICE STORY on a regular basis - but sometimes I watched for a specific guest star.
I think David Cassidy had a police show that was a spin off from POLICE STORY....it was on for a few weeks....and I just remember how strange it was to see DC in lots of scenes with guys who were taller than he was.

My question for ASK BK DAY:

NYC at the moment.

I follow John Fugelsang on Twitter and he posted this picture:

I'm not sure I want to leave the apartment tomorrow.
I just cancelled my monthly dinner meeting with the director friend tonight. The air officially smells like burning wood now, everywhere, and tomorrow morning is my appointment with the doctor whose title shall not be spelled here, and I'm not doing anything to compromise that. If it should for any reason get postponed again, it sure as HELL isn't going to be MY doing.

It really looks like The Day the Earth Caught Fire, doesn't it?

DR George, those little guitars are cool.
Thanks, Jane! I hope Larry (my sister's boyfriend) likes them!
I like them ;D

It is a thoughtful, unique gift. I am sure he will appreciate it.

If not, turn them into keychains ;)

LIVE New York Times update:

New York City Air Quality Hits Worst Level on Record
The sky in New York City rapidly darkened as a plume of smoke from Canadian wildfires blotted out the sun and triggered air pollution warnings.
Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York called the worsening air quality “an emergency crisis,” and warned it could last several days.
-
Wednesday afternoon greetings! We also have an air quality alert due to the Canadian wildfires, all the way down here in SW Ohio.
-
DR Elmore, there’s an article in today’s Journal-News about Middletown Lyric Theatre’s 45th anniversary and their current production of “Sunday in the Park with George.”

Did they mention me or Jim Martin?
-
We need some pictures of clear skies and sparkling seas from DR John G. to cleanse our palates.
-
I'm going to reschedule tomorrow's appointment to next week.
-
I finished No. 21 after I fed the cats, Then, it was too late for me to want to cook something so I ordered from MacDonalds.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I was just thinking of the same movie.

Did they mention me or Jim Martin?
Alas, no. I’ve mentioned to the current executive director several times that I was a member when the organization was founded and his disinterest has been palpable.

This was Times Square at 2:15pm.

I can't stand that lack of interest in the history of an organization. Happens here, too. They either don't care to explore it at all, or they cherry-pick a few factoids and get half of those wrong.
-
This was Times Square at 2:15pm.
On the right kind of night with a low overcast, a little pollution, and plenty of light reflection, that could just as easily be 2:15 am.
-
The additional performance of GREASE sold out in 30 minutes.
Because of cast conflicts - we can't add any more.
I will be glad when it's over.

I wish it was a better production.

Congrats on the financial success, at least, Jrand. ::)

My friend who's father died before she could move back to the states in in PA. Her young daughter has been talking about the smoke.

I am reminded of living in Ashland when smoke from the California, Oregon, and Washington fires would settle in our valley.

My question for ASK BK DAY:
When you did an episode of a television show did you get to see the finished product before it aired or did you have to wait?
Nope - not for a TV episode. We saw 'em when they aired.
-
Up at nine-thirty - seven hours of sleep, and barely any time to shave and shower and meet for the early meal, which happened at Mel's five minutes from here, thankfully. Never had a chance to post.
-
Once home, it was just one thing after another and then around four I sat on the couch, turned on the TV and before it even booted up the Firestick I was out like a light for an hour - weirdest dreams, about three of them. Now I'm up again.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
Bat flower
Pretty.
-
Orchid 2
Lovely.
-
And don't forget Twitter, DR Ron Pulliam.
I am banned for life from Twitter. That is the blessing of my life, as well.
-
For sure.
-
Good evening. I am fine. It's hot here, so after I walk in the mornings, I stay inside and try to keep cool. I'm not really doing much.
I dread when the temperature goes up another 15 degrees for days on end.
-
I just meant in terms of being owned/;run by a non-citizen with an ideological agenda.
-
Good to see you here, DR Laura.
-
Glad you are well.
-
Interesting side note (I think):
I saw a program last night about Yellowstone National Park and how it is a super-volcano that will change the face of the earth when it next explodes. Last time was some 640,000 years ago. They have reckoned it has exploded three times in earth's past.
At any rate, if we think the air quality in New York (and, indeed, throughout the northeast) is awful because of the Canadian wildfires, the prospects of Yellowstone exploding again have several states completely buried in ash and the skies blackened across the country for a long time...possibly months. It will undoubtedly be the end of most of our current civilization.
-
It may not happen any time within our lifetimes...or even in a thousand more years It will, however, happen eventually.
-
If we don't do ourselves in first.
-
Which is always a distinct possibility.
-
Hello, Laura. Great seeing you.
-
Politically or environmentally.
-
Sorry to be so dour.
-
Yes, singdaw, Elon Musk has drunk the Kool-aid most assuredly.
-
BK does not care for page seven.
-
Which is always a distinct possibility.
Blame Putin if it happens.
-
I attended a social event in White Bear Lake, MN this evening.
-
Sorry to be so dour.
Relish it. And then don't worry....be happy.
-
Many residents have white bear ornaments in their front yards.
-
I attended a social event in White Bear Lake, MN this evening.
Was it a spectacular? Or a spectacle?
-
Some almost life-sized.
-
It's quite astonishing.
-
Many residents have white bear ornaments in their front yards.
I didn't know that white bears manufactured ornaments.
-
And, to be honest, of questionable taste.
-
But I suppose it gives them pleasure.
-
Not ornaments. Figures, perhaps, is a better word.
-
Not figurines. Because these are honking big.
-
EIGHT.
-
What on earth does a white bear ornament look like?
-
Shall we discuss - oh, I don't know - the merits of Judy Garland's singing? 8)
-
Like this, for example:
-
I'm not sure if that's a white bear or a polar bear, but it gives you an idea.
-
Of what we're up against. :)
-
Hi, DR Laura. Welcome home.
-
Tomorrow will be a nice day out for me.
At 11 a.m., my cousin Debra will drive over, pick me up, and take me with her to Batesburg/Leesville where she will receive an adjustment from our chiropractor.
I will not be receiving an adjustment.
But after that, we shall stop Shealy's Bar-B-Q Restaurant for lunch.
https://www.bing.com/search?q=shealy%27s+restaurant+batesburg+sc&FORM=HDRSC1
It's an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The food is very good.
-
It will likely be the only time she and I get together for a while as she and her family are headed for the beach on Saturday for two weeks.
And she is going to a dude ranch in Montana for the first two weeks of August.
That does leave us July. We shall see.
-
Do they also do attitude adjustments?
-
If I knew how to juggle, I'd juggle
in the morning some persimmons.
-
But alas, I do not.
-
Debra loves horses. She has a couple stabled at her house and she has fields in which to ride, but she wants to ride in the wide open spaces and will get to do that in Montana.
-
Juggle, that is.
-
I jiggle, though.
-
That sounds lovely, DR Ron Puliam.
-
I have never been to Montana.
-
Do they also do attitude adjustments?
Were you here, I could offer you my services. Many a time I had to personally wind someone up for a day of work when I was in the Navy.
-
I've never been to me.
-
That sounds lovely, DR Ron Puliam.
Well, I hope she enjoys it. My vacation plans are rather local, I am afraid.
They don't really have to be, but I don't know where I want to go within a few hours drive. The beach is nice, but dreadfully crowded and pricey in the summer. I may consider a September or early October trip to the beach.
-
At the event I attended, one of the desserts was a rhubarb cake. Which I thoroughly enjoyed.
-
Like this, for example:
That's an "ornament"?
-
I may consider a September or early October trip to the beach.
We are postponing our yearly trip to the south Jersey shore from our usual last week of July to mid-October, which will be nice (and less crowded).
-
Lawn ornament.
-
I suppose Judy Garland isn't everyone's cup of vocal tea. But to cringe at the sound of her voice is a bit much and overly dramatic.
She was a unique talent, and her vocals remain musical treasures.
-
Lawn structure?
-
I agree, DR Ron Pulliam.

Very nice flowers, John!
-
A page turn is almost upon us, is it not?

I always wondered who visited the Jersey shores other than the cast of the Jersey Shore show.
-
Holy smokes. We got to page 9 awfully fast.
-
We go for an annual family reunion. We go for the family. The beach just happens to be there.
-
Who are these "8 guests" with us right now?
Wish they would join us.
-
And do they have pets?
-

Family is everything.
-
If you go to the "Daily Discussions" page, it says there are 125 guests.
-
And do they have pets?
As long as the pets aren't fleas or body lice, it's okay by me.
-
And if each of them made just one post, well...
-
I am up past my bedtime.
-

I wonder what entertains them there.
-
I bid you all a good night, friends.
-
I am up past my bedtime.
I know it's my fault. I am a bad influence on you.
-
Rally is at an end I guess.
Good night from me, as well.
-
Good evening. I am fine. It's hot here, so after I walk in the mornings, I stay inside and try to keep cool. I'm not really doing much.
I dread when the temperature goes up another 15 degrees for days on end.
If it were winter we would have gone to Phoenix for this treatment instead of Bend. It is hot enough here we don't need hotter temps.
-
Stay cool DR Laura.
-
It may not happen any time within our lifetimes...or even in a thousand more years It will, however, happen eventually.
:(
-
Like this, for example:
Oh, that looks big.
-
I suppose Judy Garland isn't everyone's cup of vocal tea. But to cringe at the sound of her voice is a bit much and overly dramatic.
She was a unique talent, and her vocals remain musical treasures.
Agreed!
-
We got heavy doses of forest fire smoke here in the late summer/early fall. It’s hazy here now but nothing like out East.
-
So far.
-
At the event I attended, one of the desserts was a rhubarb cake. Which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Gimme. Love rhubarb cake.
-
Ron, enjoy your day with your cousin.
-
I just came across this random image on tumblr. I don't know of it's real, but I know what new house I'm going to build if I ever win the lottery! ;D
-
...even if I have to have the tree built!
-
Of course, not only would I have to win the lottery, I would actually have to buy a ticket first. ::)
-
;)

How do you plan to get in and out of that home ;)

'night
-
How do you plan to get in and out of that home ;)
Well, if I have to build the tree, I can build it with an elevator!
-
I think I'm gonna put up Tonight's the Night on the Tube of You again for a while. I could, I suppose, see if Amazon would take it - that would be fun, too.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Sunset over Bali Hai
-
Tomorrow evening, I'm working concessions (actually barback to help one of the bartenders) for a concert by Postmodern Jukebox! ;D
-
Nice picture (again), John!
-
PMJ has never performed at the Washington Center, so it'll be real fun.
-
And I don't know if Scott Bradlee (who founded the group on YouTube) will be part of the group on this leg.
-
There are different permutations that travel on different tours at the same time.
-
I hope you enjoy the concert, George. They’re fun.

Thanks, John! I don't doubt that I will!
-
Page ten still?
-
Did George go down a damn rabbit hole?
-
Is anybody there?
-
Does anybody care?
-
Does anybody see what I see?
-
Does anyone still wear a hat?
-
A long way to page eleven, I must say and have said.
-
A long, long way.
-
A damn long way.
-
I suppose it's up to me, since George is down some damn rabbit hole.
-
Of his own making.
-
There is nothing worse than a rabbit hole of one's own making.
-
What?
-
I can't hear you.
-
You know I can't hear you when the water's running.
-
That was a play.
-
Anyone ever see it?
-
That was a play.
The whole play??
-
PAGE ELEVEN DANCE!!
-
Anyone ever see it?
I remember reading it decades ago. It was considered risqué back then.
-
I don’t remember anything but the title.
-
Here’s Wikipedia on it:

Thanks for the link, John. I'd never heard of it.

It was four unrelated one-act plays under that umbrella title, circa 1967. It had quite the cast, including George Grizzard, Martin Balsam, Melinda Dillon, and Eileen Heckart. It was a hit, running 756 performances. Replacements during the run included Larry Blyden, Irene Dailey, and William Redfield. It was directed by Alan Schneider, who'd directed Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Grizzard and Dillon. Balsam won a Tony Award for best actor, Schneider was nominated but lost to Mike Nichols for Plaza Suite. A couple of years later, they did it in Los Angeles at the small Gallery Theater on Santa Monica Boulevard, which became the Pan-Andreas Theater, where we did my play The Good One. It was poorly reviewed by our curmudgeon critic, Dan Sullivan. I didn't see it because i was living in NY at the time. However, one of the producers of the then-casting The Mary Tyler Moore show did see it - they were having trouble seeing anyone they liked for Ted Baxter. Fortuitously, Ted Knight was starring in the play and the rest is history.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And now they can be read.

Thanks for this info, BK!
