Well, you've read the notes, the notes were once in a blue moon, and now it is time for you to post until the once in a blue moon cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UBIQUITOUS!
-
Last night, I went down the TikTok rabbit hole...just video after video. It's practically addictive! :o
-
Notes observed. Logged.
-
Once in a Blume Moon, one could say.
-
Certainly makes me want to see Are You There God? One of the few Judy Blume books I never read.
-
Just watched the trailer. Don’t think it did the film any favors. BK shoulda made the trailer.
-
One decent thing about Migration is there weren’t many pop songs drowning out the movie. The credits rolled and only three songs were listed.
-
Tom Smothers had a great eye for talent, giving Steve Martin his first big break. He saw Bob Einstein do a bit on the local news in LA and hired him also.
-
I'll have to check out the trailer - if it didn't sell what the film actually is, then there's part of the reason.
-
Just watched it - awful. The song kills it. They don't do that in the movie.
-
Right? They chop up the movie in service of that song. And if you’re a young person, the Kathy Bates moments aren’t going to make you want to see the movie.
-
And I am up early because I need to do my shopping today.....and hopefully beat the crowd to the stores.
-
I shall investigate updating my iMAC system.
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR Iris, David told me several wonderful Hermione Gingold - a friend of his mother's - stories yesterday. The Gingold Group just presented Shaw's Arms and the Man. My friend Karen Ziemba was in the cast. I wish I could have seen it.
Thanks as well for the YouTube links. I never knew he had done any recordings besides After the Ball.
-
David's visit lasted around 90 minutes. Annabelle climbed all over him, and Stella kept climbing onto me - she never does this except when company comes over! - to sit in my lap. Thatch kept coming close to David to check him out before running away.
-
He brought me an Amaryllis plant. Since I have a black thumb, that baby's days are numbered. I should send it to DR JohnG for safety.
-
Vibes that MR BK is getting better and better.
-
Sounds like a lovely visit DR ELMORE.
-
I am now updating my new/old iMAC to the Monterey operating system.
-
I had forgotten David was on the Irish Rep]s recording of Finian's Rainbow and Kenward Elmslie's Lola. I just fownloaded all of his Rodgers & Hart album from YouTube.
-
Good morning

My it’s hard to wake up on a grey and rainy morning

Well, good morning, everyone. Guess who has a full fledged head cold?

Well, good morning, everyone. Guess who has a full fledged head cold?
Oh no, Chas! Will this stop your surgery?
-
Not if I can help it.
The timing is both awful and exquisite. I just delivered the bad news about a rehearsal tomorrow, which is not an insignificant hardship for a few other people. But it's fully necessary and essential for me.
The better part is that I can stay in and recover before my next eye exam on Tuesday. That's still a little too close for comfort, but it is what it is.
-
My regular doctor wasn't concerned yesterday when he saw I had this developing, and said to take it easy for a couple of days to get over it. Well, that's exactly what's happening.

I have to go to work

I just want to go to bed

Good morning, all.

I think I have the Irish Rep’s Finian’s Rainbow. Is Malcolm Gets on that?
-
Elmore, do any of your cats eat plants? If so, you may want to gift the amaryllis to someone else. It could be poisonous if ingested.
-
You don’t have to do anything to it. No water necessary. Just turn it a quarter turn each day, so it grows straight.
-
Cold BeGone vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.

Max the iMAC.

I guess Sonoma is the latest OS - but my computer said Monterey was available to me.....good until the end of 2024, it says.
-
And that is that.
-
WalMart looked like a war zone this morning.
And there were no small bags for produce ANYWHERE.....and it was taking 3 people to add tomatoes to the display.....so I couldn't get anywhere near it anyway.
I have 1/2 onion, 2 tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, and one bell pepper. So I should be good until next week sometime.
-
Dollar (25) Tree doesn't open until 9 a.m. now - so my shopping schedule was disrupted.
I usually go to WalMart about 7:30 a.m. and I am done by 8:15 a.m. and then I would head to D 25 T which opened at 8 a.m.
NOT ANY MORE.
-
So sad to be all alone in the world.

I think so.

I've never had a plant live long enough to be eaten! Thanks for the tip.

I have awakened and arisen.
I have coffee'd.
I have caught up on Facebook and posted ripostes and some appropriate observations.
I watched the final hour of the Joe-less and Mika-less "Morning Joe" which the wonderful Willie Geist was hosting. He is by far the best professional on that show!
I have checked my calendar and observed that my heating system will get a checkup today. Supposedly between 10 and 11, but it's 10:33 now, so I don't know if they will be on time or even arrive. Appointment was made 6 weeks ago.
I have an energy reserve available to me and a resolve to do something majorly constructive today.
It will happen in two rooms: My "office" (which I have never used, but which my mom did) and my kitchen which is next door to the "office". Things need to be gotten rid of and things need to be shifted and rearranged. I have the energy to start it off, but not certain how long it will be until I need a re-charge.
-
Lots of washing machine action is needed. I have put off things for two weeks and now have at least two loads of clothing and sheets to wash.
-
I just want to go to bed
Is there, perhaps, a job testing mattresses available somewhere?
-
I have often pondered whether a "sleep modeling job" was possible. My luck would be to get such a job and then develop insomnia.
-
All the local eateries have been closed since Saturday, but they are all open as of today.
I have a hankering for some fried chicken.
-
It's another mostly cloudy day in Johnston SC.
Sigh.
A few rays of sunshine broke through yesterday afternoon and it felt like things would clear up. Alas, after about an hour, the breaks closed up and ugly gray ushered us into dusk.
We need a respite.
-
I just want to go to bed
Is there, perhaps, a job testing mattresses available somewhere?
That would be a job I would like.
-
I need to stir.
-
I’ve been far too lazy this morning.
-
But first …
-
Once in a blue moon
You will find the right one;
Once in a blue moon
Find your dear delight one
And with a thrill
You'll know that love is true
Once in a lifetime
When the moon is blue.

TOD:
Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. Of the films adapated from his novels, my favorites are:
The Dead Zone
Carrie
Stand By Me (adapted from King's short story "The Body")
Misery
The Shawshank Redemption (also adapted from a short story)
Thinner
It and It2
The Green Mile (thanks for the reminder, DR John G.)
TV Movies I liked:
The Shining (original with Mollie Ringwald and Gary Sinise)
The Langoliers
Salem's Lot (David Soul and Lance Kerwin)
It (the version with Richard Thomas)
I concur with Bruce's assessment of "Hearts of Atlantis". It just misses the mark they were shooting for. There is a hint of what could have been greatness, but it totally misses that.
-
The heating inspection guy is here. We had a nice chat before he started work.
I trust nothing will be amiss. My HVAC unit is only 5 years old and this guy's company installed it, so....

From Ron:
I appreciate the info, but is there a punch line? Why are you telling "me" this?
LOL, I was wondering the same thing.
-
I must soon embark upon my quest for fried chicken. First, I'll drop a check in the mail for property tax payment, and also check my mail.
-
No, I have not engaged any of my energy reserves into the projects to which I previously alluded.
Call me reticent.
Oh, yes! I'm reticent!

Bless her heart! She has been so busy.
I had asked her a week or so back to say hello for me to William Orr.
I saw her comment addressed to me last night. And her next comment had a reference to Mr. Orr, but I could not make a connection.
Now we know...there wasn't any. Just mistaken identity!

I hadn't been interested in watching Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. I will rethink that now.

I stopped watching Dark Shadows the tv show after a year or so.
Now I find that it is on FreeVee - and you can start anywhere you want to.
I am in the midst of the "Adam" storyline which I hadn't seen back in the day. It is most entertaining.
And it's nice to see old friends up to new antics....well new to me.

Good Morning. It's a cloudy day here in the Bay Area. No rain in the forecast until I think tomorrow, but it's really grey out. Thanks for all who took a look at my school's Christmas Program. I do a lot of things in order to be able to live in the Bay Area, but my work at school is my favorite and most fulfilling.
Going to hit the local record store to get some late Christmas gifts today and I'll pass by moms to say hi. But that's it - what a life of leisure, for a few weeks anyway. :-)

Grayson Hall was good friends with my friend Leonora Hayes. I liked her very much. Here she is as the criminal Lady in Grey in the 1977 Broadway revival of Kurt Weill's Happy End.

Grayson Hall was wonderful on Dark Shadows. Was her character name Julia?

I like DR RON PULLIAM's list for the TOD.

Carrie - original

Salem's Lot - one of the best uses of the LONG form tv mini-series (along with Leon Uris's QB VII).

We are currently watching Lessons in Chemistry. I thought the book was great and now think the series is as well.

I bought a PowerBall ticket for Saturday.

This is a stick up!
So cute.
-
When we pulled up to Costco the lot of rather full and I was concerned our experience would be the same as DR Jrand's at Walmart. Then we found a side area where we have never parked again and there were plenty of spaces. We shall have to remember this area.
-
It was somewhat crowded in the store but not bad. Being early there weren't any lines to check-out, making it easy to cross through the open space to the pharmacy section. Fortunately we don't use the pharmacy as that line was extra long.
-
When we left, we walked right up to a counter with only one person in front of us who was almost done.
-
Leaving the store we walked right up to the person who checks the receipts, once again no line.
-
This is a stick up!
So cute.
Super cute.

The photos in that YouTube video are from that Irish Rep production in 2004.
David Staller is in at least one photo.
-
DR Larry, so pleased that you had such a nice visit with David Staller.
He’s incredibly charming and so erudite.
Bet you shared some great stories.
-
Unfortunately, you might want to consider giving away the amaryllis.
“The ASPCA classifies amaryllis as toxic to both cats and dogs. While they're not as dangerous as lilies, amaryllis can still make your furry pal pretty sick if ingested.”
-
Very funny photo, Larry!
😄

Get well vibes for Chas!

Leaving the store we walked right up to the person who checks the receipts, once again no line.
It's wonderful when everything goes right like that!

Didn’t actually nap, but I could get up.

Been listening to Werner Herzog read his autobiography. Fascinating stuff. I love his movies.

We do share a couple of things. His grandfather did archeological work on Kos, the Greek island I have visited twice.

Errico and Von Essen are too weird to deal with. I love Terri White, who was in the 2009 Broadway revival I worked on, and Jonathan Freeman, who was in the 1991 Houston Grand Opera production of Babes in Toyland. Malcolm Gets and I have been friendly since The 1998 Encores! Boys from Syracuse.

DR Larry, so pleased that you had such a nice visit with David Staller.
He’s incredibly charming and so erudite.
Bet you shared some great stories.
He's also extremely whimsical and he loves cats. We got along fine. Last night I sent him the 3-CD 1999 BBC broadcast of JUBILEE. He responded with this email:
What a treat to sit with you for an afternoon! Many and more thanks for spending time with me and for this glorious recording. I've listened to a few of the cuts and your work is incredibly masterful: full, complex, witty, and so wonderfully theatrical.

I suspect the amaryllis will depart tomorrow.

We finally had full-bore sunshine today, and it was glorious if a bit windy and cool.
Now, it is dark.
Or, rather, it is "dart".
I say that because of 2-year old Audrey James Moore who responds to requests she does not care for by saying "It's too dart!"
This expression evolved from being told by her parents that "It's too darK" to do some of the things she comes up with at times, like going to see a friend at night, or going outside to play, etc.
But, tell her it's her bedtime and "It's too dart". Get ready for your bath and "It's too dart".
It's cute, I think. Audrey is my second cousin, daughter of Becky Mims Moore, daughter of my first cousin Debra Bledsoe Mims, daughter of my Aunt Doris (my mom's younger sister),
-
Poor Amaryllis.
Will she find another Winthrop, do you suppose?
-
My Amaryllis bulbs are truly splendiferous right now. One has a single bud stalk and is already a foot tall. The second has two bud stalks and seems to be about six inches high right now.
-
And when he lived in Pittsburgh, he differed trauma caused by lime gelatin. I will never recover from mine.
What sort of trauma did you suffer from lime gelatin, John? I've never heard of this reaction.
-
Poor Amaryllis.
Will she find another Winthrop, do you suppose?
Have we mentioned that this Amaryllis is not dawdling?

It feels like a new page is just around the corner.

Not too far away.

Almost here.

Are we there yet?

Is it page 6 yet?

Oh, here it is. Page 6!

And it's not even 7 pm Eastern

And when he lived in Pittsburgh, he differed trauma caused by lime gelatin. I will never recover from mine.
What sort of trauma did you suffer from lime gelatin, John? I've never heard of this reaction.
When I was living at home, we ate everything that was served to us. We ate food that was burnt, food that had been long past its expiration date, food that was poorly prepared. We ate what we were served and we were grateful. Or so we were told.
In all of those 17 years, there was but one exception. It’s was a tuna fish casserole, or so it was called. The recipe came from our congressman and was meant to stretch your food budget.
It featured canned tuna fish, rice, walnuts and your four basic green vegetables: celery, canned green beans, canned peas and canned lima beans. And it was all held together by lime gelatin.
-
Dad tasted it and refused to eat it. That meant we could follow suit.
I think we ended up with sandwiches.
Mom ate all of that dish, wimpering every day about how we don’t appreciate all she does for us.
-
Because the recipe came from our congressman, my sister Annaliese swears to this day that it was a government conspiracy.
-
Years later, when I was a restaurant critic, I entered a competition called A Mother’s Day Revenge. You had to write about the worst thing your mother ever served you. I won.
Grand prize was a catered multi-course dinner for four with wine.
-
I wish I had the original recipe. I’ve never seen it, but I have found close variations, including one with canned chicken and lemon gelatin.
-
Funny thing is, neither my mother or father remembered that dish. But the three of us kids can still taste it.
I detested canned tuna back then. Imagine added canned lima beans, walnuts and all the rest of that suspended in lime gelatin.
To borrow a quote from BK, vomit on the ground.
-
So, there you have it, Ron. Aren’t you glad you asked?
-
Can I send you my therapy bill?

We finally had full-bore sunshine today, and it was glorious if a bit windy and cool.
Now, it is dark.
Or, rather, it is "dart".
I say that because of 2-year old Audrey James Moore who responds to requests she does not care for by saying "It's too dart!"
This expression evolved from being told by her parents that "It's too darK" to do some of the things she comes up with at times, like going to see a friend at night, or going outside to play, etc.
But, tell her it's her bedtime and "It's too dart". Get ready for your bath and "It's too dart".
It's cute, I think. Audrey is my second cousin, daughter of Becky Mims Moore, daughter of my first cousin Debra Bledsoe Mims, daughter of my Aunt Doris (my mom's younger sister),
"Too dart" is super cute :)
-
I tried to get revenge on my parents. I took them out for dim sum and placed a chicken’s foot on each of their plates. I told them that they couldn’t leave the table until they had cleaned their plates. They refused.
-
And when he lived in Pittsburgh, he differed trauma caused by lime gelatin. I will never recover from mine.
What sort of trauma did you suffer from lime gelatin, John? I've never heard of this reaction.
I too am curious.

Changing dark to dart in titles could change the meaning of the film.

No. But it always helps to know good from gut-wrenchingly bad.

WAIT UNTIL DART
That actually sounds pretty scary.
-
But WAIT UNTIL DARK was scary enough to begin with.
-
Making a jambalaya mix for dinner. Have no idea if it’s any good. It’s kinda scary in that you add protein and spice at the end.

I picked up a bunch of films from the library today, including Wichita, a western with Joel McCrea, Lloyd Bridges and Peter Graves.
I also picked up Airplane! with Lloyd Bridges and Peter Graves.
Interesting double feature.

This is kind of interesting. LaChanze is bothered that the original cast of Broadway's "The Color Purple" (for which she won the Best Actress Tony) hasn't been getting mentioned in publicity for the movie of the musical.
https://ew.com/lachanze-the-color-purple-movie-royalties-song-8420310
-
LaChanze's actual tweet on the subject is at that link.
Her tweet seems to suggest that she feels she should have gotten some financial piece of one of the songs.
-
She thinks she’s a lyricist because the show’s writers used her ideas on the song.
Lots of actors would talk about how Sondheim would ask them questions about their character and they would see their ideas in his lyrics. But none of them ever thought they had written their own songs.

I just read this article:
Maine's top election official rules Trump ineligible for 2024 primary ballot (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/maine-s-top-election-official-rules-trump-ineligible-for-2024-primary-ballot/ar-AA1mayRz?OCID=ansmsnnews11)

However, Bellows' office said her decision would not be enforced until the courts weigh in, "given the compressed timeframe, the novel constitutional questions involved, the importance of this case, and impending ballot preparation deadlines."

Between your Dad and the Aunt Eunice story and the lime gelatin trauma from your Mom, a play or indie film could emerge
Maybe call it "The Leftovers."

Interesting. You'd think she would've had lawyers get her points back when it happened. ::)
I think actors getting points wasn't typical in those pre-HAMILTON days. (The original production of the COLOR PURPLE musical was over ten years before HAMILTON.)
-
Back then, I don't think anyone involved with the first Broadway production could have even imagined a movie of the musical happening.
-
The actors got a piece of A CHORUS LINE way back in the 1970s, but. I think that was considered a unique situation. Maybe because the dancers' actual life stories were used in the writing of the show?

The other day, I was given a gift: the Glow Bowl.

It hangs on the toilet bowl and is motion activated.

It's like a night light, but you get to choose from about 7 neon colors.

I'm not sure what to make of it.

I guess if you can't say your #2 doesn't stink, at least you can say it glows?

Can we say poop on a family site?

I guess we said it about dog poop, so maybe we can say it about human poop?

I went back and changed "poop" to "#2" - that seemed less unseemly.

Good night, friends.

Here is the cast list.
CAST
Mark Aldrich: Buzz Collins
Melissa Errico: Sharon
Jonathan Freeman: Finian
Jonathan Hadley: Sheriff / Mr. Robust
Eric Jackson: Howard
Max Von Essen: Woody
Malcolm Gets: Og
Jayne Ackley Lynch: Ensemble
Kimberly Dawn Neumann: Susan the Silent
Terri White: Maid
John Solman: Senator Rawkins
David Stall\er: Narrator / Mr. Shears
Joacquin Stevens
Terri White
That was a great cast.
The one time I went to NYC, I met Terri White and got her autograph!
-
She was a bartender at the late 88 Keys the one night our theater tour went there, and recognized her from Nunsense and Barnum and other recordings. :)
-
Finished Hereafter - had never even heard of it and I thought I'd seen almost all of Clint Eastwood's films. I really enjoyed it, although I can see where others might not.
-
Might try and watch something else.
-
So, there you have it, Ron. Aren’t you glad you asked?
I am, actually.
-
Can I send you my therapy bill?
You can send it. It will just sit in a pile of other unopened mail.
-
Thanks, Ron.
-
Good night,all.
-
DR Larry, so pleased that you had such a nice visit with David Staller.
He’s incredibly charming and so erudite.
Bet you shared some great stories.
He's also extremely whimsical and he loves cats. We got along fine. Last night I sent him the 3-CD 1999 BBC broadcast of JUBILEE. He responded with this email:[
What a treat to sit with you for an afternoon! Many and more thanks for spending time with me and for this glorious recording. I've listened to a few of the cuts and your work is incredibly masterful: full, complex, witty, and so wonderfully theatrical.
[/i]
Lovely response. Gracious and classy, like the man himself.

George must sill be down that same rabbit hole. Perhaps it would be nice if he took a damn break.

I got my mom a new phone for Christmas, but I didn't set it up correctly before I gave it to her.
-
But I didn't realize that I didn't set it up correctly until I went over to her house earlier tonight to show her how it all worked...
-
...and then it didn't all work. :o
-
Oh, well. It'll be fine, and she still has the Jitterbug 2 ("senior") phone that I got her a few years ago, so she'll still have that until I get this new phone all set up, which I just now did. :)
-
What's different about the new phone from the Jitterbug is that the new phone is just a smarphone.
-
The Jitterbug phone was designed for seniors who didn't want a lit of technology to learn, so it only really has five buttons to do things.
-
I set it up that way, but it could've been set up as a regular smart phone, but I didn't do it that way.
-
The other good thing about the new phone is that it has 5GB of data per month vs. 100MB (yes, MEGAbytes) of data on the Jitterbug.
-
You can get more data from the Jitterbug phone service, but I remember it costing more than your average regular phone service. :P
-
AND this new phone costs about $10 less per month than the Jitterbug, so that's a big savings there, too.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
