Title: THE FIRST 100 PAGES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes weren't 100 pages, and now it is time for you to post until the first 100 cows come home.

Yesterday afternoon and evening - between 4:00 and 8:30 or so - were hellish rounds of bad health.  That added around 90 minutes to my watching the final four episodes of The Crown.

I enjoyed the series very much, but I really detested the music, which sounded at moments to be scored for a Hoover consort of vacuum cleaners or humpbacked whales. One cue, heard far too often, was a horn - French, English, taxi, who knows? - playing V-I, V-I, V-I . . . over and over at various nauseating degrees of loudness.

Went to bed at 9 p.m.

Out of bed 5 minutes ago at 10:18 a.m.

Thirteen hours of rest.  Impossible.  Unheard of.

But true!

I did have one very hateful dream.

It was another of those "where did I park my car" dreams wherein my car was nowhere to be found in places I normally parked.

And then the quandary began of whether I had actually driven my car or not.

I am not seeking a Dream-O-Matic reason behind it.

I am just wishing those dreams would stop happening.

Is today really Sunday?

My calendar says it's so.  And it is the 7th day of January 2024.

Only the 7th day?

For whatever reason, the past week has seemed to be much longer than just a week.

Still, it's Sunday...and I shall venture out to Third Generation for my Sunday repast.

Had a vivid dream in which I had been mysteriously teleported to the floor of the church while watching it on YouTube. I had no idea of how I got there. But people couldn’t see me until they came forward for communion. I stayed there until after the service. Then I found that I wasn’t really there.

From DR Rodzinski:

Quote
Went to see Wonka this evening. Figured the kids might enjoy it. They did. Me? Well my expectations were low, but I did like the Paddington movies so gave it a shot. Chalamet was ok, inoffensive but missing the wit and menace. Still better than Depp’s Wonka, one of the worst performances ever.

Thanks for the report.  I was especially curious after reading an article stating the reason Dahl did not want Wilder cast as Willy Wonka was due to the fact he was very outspoken regarding his antisemitism.  Now with Chalamet, another Jew, cast in the role it is sweet revenge.

The plow guy took two separate passes (because there were two parts to the snowing), and I just used the blower behind the garage and around the house. Nathan’s out clearing in front of his work truck and applying salt and sand in advance of the overnight freeze. Tomorrow should be the only tricky day because it’ll be warming up and raining after that.

And that’s the mid-afternoon repor.

Timothy Chalamat or however you spell his name - is also unimportant and mostly irrevelant (sp) to me.....even though I have seen him in a couple of movies.....or perhaps because I have seen him.....he was awful on SNL as well.

Yesterday I spoke to my LA friend who’s now living in Germany. He told me they have a 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment with all the mod cons for $1200/month, and it would rent for $5000 here in LA. The cost of living there is 35% lower overall.

I wonder what a 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment would cost in New York.  I think two-bedrooms can go as high as $6,000 if not more.

Glad I live in Tumwater, Washington, and my mortgage is paid off!

;D  Yes, you are lucky.

I think one thing that doesn’t work in Daisy Miller is the handheld camera, especially at the end. It just looks amateurish. And for every shot that’s set up right, there are others that are truly ugly.

Making Ricky Gervais' faux-edgy stand-up look sharp and Jerrod Carmichael's confessional comedy look extra extraordinary, Koy's opening monologue at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards was nothing short of a catastrophe. Jokes that aspired to cutting satire could barely hold a butter knife - throwing shade at Old Dad Robert De Niro? - and the many others that played it safe were first-thought gags, at best....

Once I was wandering in the West Village and the movie theater there had a Rick Springfield documentary. A sign said Rick would be there for a Q&A afterwards. I thought, this could be a hoot. Not many people seemed to be in line. I sat through this hagiography with maybe six other people, trying to think what the hell I’d ask Rick Springfield, but ol’ Rick must’ve peeked out and seen how few people were there and took off into the night.
