Well, you've read the notes, the notes were pulled and had revelations, and now it is time for you to post until the pulled cows come home.

Dallas BBQ in NYC was one of the great food bargains in the city.

Went to a place the other night with the kids. Montana’s. I didn’t want to deal with a bunch of ribs but they had an item called the Big Honkin’ Rib. A single giant rib. Was surprisingly good.

There was a place in NY on 11th Ave and like 46th street. Daisy Mae’s. Got me hooked on dry rub ribs. Terrible sides though.

I slept rather well until the cats went wild around 5:00. They were playing and having a great time leaping on and off the bed and chasing each other through the apartment. Everything quieted down, Thatrch came to lie down next to me, and the alarm rang. I'm now dressed and ready to do the laundry.

I think this country needs a serious blue wave in November to get a Democrat majority in both House and Senate to investigate and impeach a few Supreme Court judges. These sonsabitches have to go.

I only went 3-5 times, but on one memorable night, the late great Karla Burns and I closed that place. They had the best onion rings.

The best BBQ I ever had was several years ago.

Friends of ours invited us to their home for New Years Eve, they had a huge finished basement with a bar

Their whole block had gotten together and hired a BBQ truck and he parked in their driveway, you could smell the meat cooking in the smoker for blocks around

They set up this huge buffet with pulled pork, pulled beef, pulled chicken, ribs, brisket, beans, corn on the cob, coleslaw, potato and macaroni salads, pickles…

My mouth is watering just thinking about it .

It was amazing

So best barbecue? I remember some beef ribs at Killen's in Pearland that were tender, juicy and Jurassic in size. Topped with an espresso barbecue sauce, they were mind-bogglingly good.

That same day I tasted barbecue crabs for the first time. That's what they're called, though they're really fried. But they were outstanding.

I didn't sleep all that well, but better than some nights. One problem I have is that I like to lie down and turn my face right. Except that causes pain. So I have to face left. After two months of this I still haven't retrained myself to do that.

I grew up in Greenville SC, and it was the home of a "local" franchise (a few cities in South and North Carolina, IIRC) called "Little Pigs of America".  Their BBQ was most excellent.  Their sauce was mustard based (a Carolinas quirk) and also most excellent.  The pork was always chopped really fine rather than pulled.  Nice chunks but small ones.

Have had other BBQ in other cities...some very good, some not...but I do not recall the name of the places.

Locally, here in the town of Johnston SC in the CSRA, there is a lot of BBQ on various menus.  None sing out to me, thus far, but they are good.

Every article I have read on the best BBQ in the Carolinas place the eateries in cities quite a distance from where I am.  So...

Anyhoo, I've loved many kinds of BBQ, in many places. I couldn't name a single favorite, but Texas BBQ in general would be my druthers. Or, like Og, do I just love the one I'm near?

There's one here I was recently introduced to when someone gave me a couple of sample bites of their brisket that was to die for, but I haven't eaten there yet:

I definitely frequented all those locations. The one by the Dakota had a weird, castle-like interior, like it had once been a German themed restaurant. The one on University was great. It was actually consistent across the chain.

I am loving Shadow of a Doubt this time through. I wonder if I just wasn't on Hitchcock's page the first time I saw it. Now I love the way everything works together, from the way Dmitry Tiomkin weaves The Merry Widow through the score to the performance. Joseph Cotton was never better, cruel and charismatic.

I saw the news about that awful van accident on NBC’s national news last night.  Earlier this week something similar happened not far from our old house in Middletown.  The van and house caught fire, but the homeowner escaped with minor injuries.  The occupants of the van fled on foot and, last I heard, only one of them had been captured.

TOD:

About 10 years ago, I was asked to coauthor a book on Texas barbecue.  Driving across the state to eat a barbecue places great, small, known and unknown was a great adventure. Learned a lot. Ate way too much. Met some wonderful people. Got some amazing photos. And the book came out fairly well, if'n I do say so.

Not long after the book’s release, I had the nerve to invite the author to a local BBQ jernt in Middletown, Ohio.  He was very gracious and tactful  8)

A nice memory. The meeting, that is. Don't remember the 'cue.

TOD: I like most any barbecue style, but Texas is my favorite. The best I've had have of course been in Texas. Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Angelo's in Fort Worth, Sonny Bryan's in Dallas, and Goode Company in Houston are all standouts in my memory.

The Boston area wasn't known for barbecue, so when Redbones opened up in Davis Square, Somerville it was a big event. We were regulars there and even had our rehearsal dinner in their basement space, now known as Underbones. During the glory years they had 24 beers on draft with a large craft New England condition and a couple on cask.

We visited Redbones on our last trip to Boston and it was much less crowded than before, with a lot of business now being takeout. There aren't 24 taps any more but the ones they have are still good and still include a cask-conditioned ale. The beef ribs were as great as ever.

DR vixmom, keep us posted on the van accident. I am very curious to know what was going on with the driver. Was it a robbery get away? out of control van? health emergency? What a nightmare!

There have been rumors floating around that the driver had a heart attack, but no official word

I just found an update, the driver, a man from the next town over , was arrested for drunk driving .

It was 4:40 in the afternoon

AH HA - HHW vibes worked their magic.

We had 48 folks at the reading. The reactions were what I wanted - some laughs in the right spots and some emotional moments as well.

The actors were spot on.  We spend about 30 minutes in the Green Room where they asked very good questions and we had some nice discussions.

Everyone was doing the same play - and the audience at the talk back asked just the kind of questions I was hoping the play would provoke.

All in all a terrific experience.

A woman came up to me afterwards and introduced herself and asked me to give her a call.

She says she is an editor - never said what kind - but she says she has a friend who is a producer in NYC and she would like to send him the script.

She said his name was Ben Linden or Peter Linden or something like that, his father was/is also a producer.....

So I may give her a call or at least explore her on the inner web a bit.

So I may give her a call or at least explore her on the inner web a bit.

Sounds promising!

William Daniels and Bonnie Bartlett are celebrating their 73rd anniversary. Always liked them in St. Elsewhere. Would have liked to see him in A Little Night Music.

I did. I saw both him and Cariou, September 1973 and March 1974.

Oh, one of the joys of living in New York! ;D

That's fantastic, Jrand!  Congrats on the successful reading! :D

My day and evening thus far: four hours of sleep. Phoner at eleven - went very well. Picked up package at the mail place but no important envelopes - but they'd just started to sort the mail so I'll check back to see if they arrived and will pick them up if they have - fried catfish, two small filets, for food - excellent - 3:00, sat on my couch like so much fish and turned on the TV, 3:02 out like a light, 9:05 up like a light but discombobulated. That's it. Amazing. I've just ordered a half chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK - and if you want the shocker, it cost four dollars more than if I'd gotten two filet 'o' fish things from McDonald's via door dash. McDonald's is now a high-priced restaurant.

As to the debate - I don't do political, BUT - the Democrats do love to eat their own, just like they did with Al Franken. The media was reprehensible, especially Joy Reid, who should be ashamed of herself, and who spent much of the following day trying to walk back what she'd done in as subtle a way as possible. The hand-ringing on Facebook was nauseating and, amusingly, forgotten by most who were doing it as soon as Governor Newsom and Obama and Lawrence O'Donnell chimed in as the voices of reason. One debate, especially a first debate, does not an election made. It was also the lowest ratings for a debate in decades. Trump did not gain a single vote, I can assure you - nor do I think Biden lost any. And the next day, Biden gave a fiery and VERY coherent speech and he was clearly feeling better after some sleep and his cold getting better. But there are still normally start people calling for him to step down from running  - THAT is how you lose an election. There's no stepping down, there's not a single viable replacement with the amount of time remaining, and these normally smart people better flush their nauseating negativity right down the drain.

It’s so true. The media is so complicit in the charade of concern about Biden’s age which matters not a whit compared to an unhinged madman and what he’ll do to this country (including the media, by the way). It’s insanely reckless to act like there’s even a choice here. There’s not some magic savior riding in. All we have is the one guy who did manage to beat the demon when nobody else could.

The reason that I got it (them) because I thought that it would be cool to put a reverse printed poster in a frame with the reverse side showing, then putting that on the wall behind a toilet that's facing a mirror so that when you were...<ahem> sitting down ;) you would see the poster the right way!

I've lived in two places that had such positioning of toilets and mirrors:  the very first apartment that I lived in after moving out of my parents' house for the last time (after college), and here, where I've live for almost 18 years.
