Well, you're read the notes, the notes were of Christmas Past, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas Past cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RIANT!
-
Welcome, 469 GUESTS.
-
Hopefully, George will continue his story here.
-
He really must.
-
In the meantime, let me just sing for you the entire score to Whoop-Up in the key of E.

Good morning.
-
Vixmom, I don't know how you did all that in one day. I spent hours just fixing the roast, three yellow foods, steamed green beans, rolls, and a salad.
And I ran the dishwasher four times yesterday.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a very quiet day yesterday. Around 10:00 yesterday, one of my best friends from college who used to own a co-op in Brooklyn and now lives in San Francisco called, then my best friend from college FaceTimed me from London. While we were chatting, Jen showed up with a small quiche. She and Ann are going to Jen's brother's on Martha's Vineyard tomorrow amnd she's taking a lot of quiches, minus mine.
-
I cooked some peas and carrots to eat with the quiche, and that was my Christmas dinner. It was quite good.
-
That sounds delicious, Elmore.
-
My big disappointment with Christmas was the Grandson was playing games on a phone all afternoon. I knew this would happen, but I didn't think it would happen at age 6.
-
Around noon, I opened all the Christmas cards I've received, played at the computer, cleaning out what I can of the iTunes mess. I fed the cats and had my dinner. Around 5:00, I got an unexpected Amazon email informing me that a DR had sent me a gift certificate. It was my one Christmas gift and it was completely unexpected. I was moved to tears by such unexpected generosity and kindness.
-
After I finished my evening chores, around 7:00, I climbed into bed with the cats and read bits of Sondheim's first volume of lyrics until 9:00. It was a nice day.
-
The neighbors loved their baking-supply gift. The best reaction I could have hoped for.
-
This morning I woke to find one of the cats had not made it to the litter box on time and left a mess on the litter mat. These messes tend to be situated exactly where I need to place a foot, just inside the bathroom door or in the small corridor between the foyer and their food dishes. So, a bit of that gift certificate will go todays to a new litter mat.
-

I'm not trying to interfere, but I would hope his parents would nip that in the bud.
-
And good morning, DR Laura!
-
Oh, that's nice, Elmore.
-
DR vixmom, I agree with DR Laura: where the fat hell does all that energy come from? I get exhausted just reading about it.
-
No kidding, Elmore. He was mostly playing with Grandpa's phone (he had downloaded games on it when we were babysitting). He set it down once, and I swooped in and put it on the bookshelf. I was getting ready to start reading "Horton Hears a Who" to Aunt Sassy, and Grandpa handed it back to him. I was pretty ticked off.
-
DR Iris, it was nice to see a post last night. I'm sending continued wishes for a speedy and painless recovery.
-
This is the only child I have ever known who has no patience for books. But if I start reading to Aunt Sassy, he'll climb up on the sofa and wiggle in to see what's going on.
-
But there was no point once the phone was back.
-
And if Grandpa's phone wasn't available, he took Mama's.
-
And that's the end of that rant.
-
DR Jrand74, I was sorry to read about your mother's anniversary this morning. I'm sending belated hugs.
-
I've been dreaming this past week about friends who are no longer among the living. Last night I had a vivid dream about my friend Loyce Martin.
And that's enough of me!
-
Having an allergy issue - I felt it might be coming on before I went to bed and I took a Claritin-D, but here we are. And I keep "almost" sneezing but the sneeze never comes.
-
Hopefully, I can go back to bed soon.
-
Having an allergy issue - I felt it might be coming on before I went to bed and I took a Claritin-D, but here we are. And I keep "almost" sneezing but the sneeze never comes.
Hoping the Claritin works quickly!
-

It's always very nice when people who are in a position to help out do that!
-
It's Boxing Day!
-
Good morning, all.
-
For Christmas, I got a nice...
COLD.
-
So I shall be taking it very easy today. I want this thing gone.
-
Claritin-D was almost six hours ago - a 24-hour one. And this is a terrible allergy attack and won't stop. All I can do is blow my nose, almost sneeze, and wait it out. Even if I wanted to take another Claritin-D, I'm now out of them. I could go to CVS right now, but why?
-
The problem with the almost sneezing resides in my left nostril. It's really irritating.
-
I used Benadryl to help get a solid sleep, but what I need to go out for now is some Robitussin DM to keep this from becoming a real cough.
-
Allergy begone vibes for MR BK.
-
My left and right (1) nostrils and (2) eyes are different in that way.
With some allergies or colds, it's my left nostril that is the most active in getting clogged, or in just running a lot. And the left eye will be the one that tears up a lot.
It's not 100%, occasionally it'll reverse, but this is the default.
-
Continued nice day vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
The problem with the almost sneezing resides in my left nostril. It's really irritating.
Have you tried closing the right nostril and breathing out through only the left nostril, on the chance there's gunk in that nostril that needs help coming out? Maybe do that over a sink?
-
TOD:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Kate Mulgrew and Giulietta Masina.
Joseph Cotten and Tom Cruise
-
Funny thing is I'm not clogged at all. It's calming down a little.
-
I hope you get to feeling better soon, JRand.
-
And the people with allergies, which might turn out to be colds.
-
I'm thinking of making a trip to Big Lots to see if I can score some lights for the Christmas Tree next year. They are going totally out of business, so maybe there's some good prices. I don't need anything except lights.
-
Thanks DR LAURA.
Good luck at Big Lots!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
~~~FEELING BETTER PRONTO VIBES~~~ for DR Jrand74, BK, DR ChasSmith, and DR Ginny. Hope I've not forgotten anyone.
-
Today is the DH's birthday - the Feast of Stephen that Good King Wenceslas talks about. We went out for breakfast, and a friend is throwing a dinner party tonight.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
My allergy issues aren't cold issues. Very different symptoms. Claritin-D rarely fails me, but it still hasn't kicked in enough to stop this attack. I'll go pick up more after banking, and I'll take another if necessary.
-
I received three Christmas cards in the mail today.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Slept off and on. So I ended up sleeping later than I expected.
-
Boxing Day greetings! We had a very quiet Christmas Day, the highlight of which was a 3-party live chat with Rob’s household in Illinois and the other grandparents in Michigan. We got to watch Charlotte and Hannah open a huge box that spewed forth half a dozen BLUE balloons, signifying the new sibling will be a brother!
-
Happiest of birthdays to the husband of DR Singdaw!
-
So thankful to see DR Iris posting again! Continued treatment and recovery vibes!
-
Thank you, DR Ginny!
-
Love the method of the reveal! :)
-
Yes, DR Singdaw, it was just right.
-
The most ambitious things I’ve done over the past several days have been in the kitchen:
Sunday - Christmas cookies
Monday - Lemon lime Jello cottage cheese surprise (aka Green Stuff)
Tuesday - Vegetable beef soup
Wednesday - reasonable facsimile of a turkey dinner
The upshot is a refrigerator full of fabulous leftovers. We just had Richard’s favorite “morning after” breakfast - turkey bacon sandwiches on whole wheat toast.
The "First Night of Hanukkah" party was a great success.
That's nice. Were any Jewish desserts were served?
I like that dogs were at the Chanukah party.
Not really, DR Jane. Unless these count: :)
Thank you, DR Freddie!
DR Vixmom your Christmas tradition sounds cozy even if it is on Facetime.
I'm sure Vixson was very entertaining :)
I made lime congealed salad too. I realized I didn’t have enough gelatin so I added a box of mango. It was still green and just as good.
I didn't think I should ask who was responsible for permitting this. The good news is it isn't his parents and he doesn't get to do this on a regular basis.
-
This is the only child I have ever known who has no patience for books. But if I start reading to Aunt Sassy, he'll climb up on the sofa and wiggle in to see what's going on.
I got it when you said you were reading to Aunt Sassy, very clever.
-
And if Grandpa's phone wasn't available, he took Mama's.
Oh, darn my comments about the parents was wrong.
And that's the end of that rant.
I get it. We have had the same issue with Freyja since she was rather young. It wasn't an all afternoon activity.
Yeah, so I'm reading these Facebook conversations, and someone is responding to Stephen Farrow, and obviously Stephen Farrow answered that person but I can't see what Mr. Farrow said, then the conversation continued with the person answering Mr. Farrow again.
DR Elmore --
Today I started my little Nutcracker recordings project, in which I'll be listening to whatever I have here and keeping track of cuts and anything else of note.
I began with Irving/NYC because you said there was a problem with the mouse fight music repeating. I should go back and find the post, but I believe that was the gist? I just listened to it straight through, playing the copy sitting on Google Drive, and there's nothing at all amiss.
We're in an unknowable digital world here, where anything that happens is inexplicable, so I wonder if your iTunes train wreck affected this. I would toss your copy and download it again:
Good luck!
Speaking of Big Lots, last week, I ordered some vinyl cast recordings through Big Lots (I think Tower Records is involved, but I can't find their name in my e-mails). Anyway, all the records were on sale for less than $10 each! The total for the order came to $68.37, then there was a promotional discount of $-21.48, for a grand total of only $46.89! :D
-
Then, I found all the records on Amazon to see what the "real" price would be, and it came to $533.69!! :o
-
HOWEVER, one album is from a seller in England, so that adds a bit to the price ($78.76), and one other is only available autographed for $149.99. But even adjusting a bit for those, the "new" value would still be over $400! ;D
-
I love it when that happens!
-
AND, only two recordings are double dippers (I already own the CDs of those specific recordings). The rest are all completely new to me.
Back from the bank - first in, first out - then CVS (more Claritin-D and two light bulbs). Allergies have calmed down a bit, so that's spiffy.
BK - did you ever hear from Amy & Mark?
I too have been wondering if they are ok.
-
Keith got Wordle in four.
-
DR Vixmom I am told that your getting the word in three was impressive.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Sending vibes of health to bk, Jrand, Chas, Ginny, John g, Iris, and anyone else needing them.
-
Today is Boxing Day. Here it is also Tossing Day. So much has piled up! Today I am tackling paper — old mail that I set aside for some reason.
-
It is nice, though, to be getting rid of more.
Must resume while I’m still in a ruthless mood.
-
Oh, btw, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to The Chorus, a lovely French film from France. I recommend both the film and the soundtrack.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
Hi, Jeanne!
-
If Kroger takes over Albertson's/Safeway, we'll only have Kroger and one other grocery chain here. There's an Albertson's that is in walking distance, but it is way more expensive than Kroger.
I don't count Walmart as a grocery chain, since the one time we bought meat there, it had to be thrown out. There was something very wrong with it.
-
And the Albertson's near me would be closed permanently if Kroger takes over.
-
That’s some savings, George.
-
Then, I found all the records on Amazon to see what the "real" price would be, and it came to $533.69!! :o
Wow!
Then, I found all the records on Amazon to see what the "real" price would be, and it came to $533.69!! :o
WOW!
Is there an echo in the house?? :o
;D
Agreed!
I know, right?? :D Definitely worth it!
I loved the movie The Chorus. And the music too. Thanks for the reminder, Jeanne.
Yikes! That seems to be taking sweet and savory a bit too far! :)
-
DR JOHN G - I am appalled.
-
Thanks DR JEANNE.
-
I talked to my sister Molly and we are going to Half Price Books on January 6 - where we give each other money to buy our own Christmas gifts!
-
That should be fun.
-
And the Read O Rama at Pathway to Crystals will be Saturday, January 4.
No need to make an appointment, I think there will be plenty of spaces available.
-
Still 48 degrees here. I think I will take off my shirt and get a moon tan.
-
That should be fun.
Indeed.
-
I talked to my sister Molly and we are going to Half Price Books on January 6 - where we give each other money to buy our own Christmas gifts!
Do you give each other the same amount of money?
-
Sending vibes of health to bk, Jrand, Chas, Ginny, John g, Iris, and anyone else needing them.
Thanks, I'll take them and send health vibes back to you.
The merge was nixed.
Safeway has some great deals if you use their very annoying app. I let Keith do that and complain.
I did not open the link. I doubt I want to know.
Funny. Do you give each other the same amount of money?
I asked the same question ;D
LOL!
-
Last night for our Christmas feel good viewing we finally watched Silver Linings Playbook.
-
DR Jeanne I know you like English shows, does that include half hour comedies? If so I recommend Friday Night Dinner. The show was on for six seasons beginning in 2011.
-
Back to the Billy Wilder documentary. The section on The Emperor's Waltz is funny.
-
Good evening!
-
They're now on Sunset Blvd. I had forgotten William Holden got top billing over Gloria Swanson.
-
Good to see you here, DR Iris. Sending vibes your way.
-
Wordle: no luck today !
-
Sorry. It looked like a difficult one to me.
-
'night
-
Sloppy but done. Christmas Card Lane.
-
There’s a new novel from Japan I want to read: We’ll Prescribe You a Cat.
-
Sounds like my kind of doctor.
-
Onward!
-
Ten!
-
I'm trying really hard to actually finish a movie, but the direction is so bad, so amateurish, that I want to hurl something at the TV.
-
And there's an HOUR to go.
-
However, it's still early, so I'll try.
-
I now want to watch Some Like It Hot and The Apartment too.
-
But what a slog.
-
This movie barely got released and yet they're trying like crazy to get the lead actor up for an Oscar. They just don't have that kind of money.
-
I could only find two or three reviews, and there are zero on Rotten Tomatoes.
-
The story isn't uninteresting - based on an Arthur Miller short story.
-
The actors are okay.
-
It's the director. And yet, the two or three reviews praise her to the skies - how stylish her direction is - no, it's not stylish at all - it's just like every other movie where there do the shaky cam crap and over-edit ever single scene. But I'll save my biggest rant for the notes.
-
You bet I will.
-
There'll be no stopping me.
-
I've had quite enough tuna pasta salad.
-
QUITE enough.
-
One chocolate donut and one cookie.
-
That will be it for food.
-
For food, that will be it. Why that wants to be it is anyone's guess.
-
Sloppy but done. Christmas Card Lane.
Very nice!
Are you saving revealing the title of the movie for the Notes?
-
Because my heart is green.
I thought "Love is Blue."
-
Loved your gingerbread house, DR John G.
-
Story that I don’t know if it’s true, but I find intriguing: Double Indemnity was up against Going My Way for the Oscars. When Leo McCarey won, he was walking to the stage and Billy Wilder tripped him.
Are Hanukkah Huts a thing?
Back from the triple birthday party.
-
Where there was no jello mold, green or otherwise.
-
Well, I will watch the movie tomorrow.
-
Sometimes there is "the pink stuff," but not this time.
-
Well, I will watch the movie tomorrow.
Because after all, tomorrow is another day.
-
And fiddle-dee-dee!
-
Are Hanukkah Huts a thing?
Cool. You decorated that, right?
Back from the triple birthday party.
Did I miss a post - your DH and two others?
-
I think I figured out what is wrong with me. Cedar pollen is in the air. Will start tge decongestant tomorrow.
-
Correct, DR Freddie - all have birthdays within this week.
What am I, a Southern belle all of the sudden?
You betcha.
The centerpiece on the table tonight consisted of vintage porcelain tumbling Santas.
Shameful. 8)
Good night, friends.
And others.
Good night, all.
DR Jane, I just read your email from Dec. 24.
Thank you so much for checking in on me!
So thoughtful and caring. ❤️
-
Sending health vibes to all in need.
George, you can buy vinyl from Big Lots? I must know more.
I do miss Half-Price books, but their record prices got quite insane.
It works for me. ;)
My Chantel Kreviazuk Cameo message for the wife went over like gangbusters. Tears were shed. Victory!
-
There’s a new novel from Japan I want to read: We’ll Prescribe You a Cat.
I've heard of that, but I haven't read anything about it.
-
I now want to watch Some Like It Hot and The Apartment too.
Two very good (and different) movies worth watching!
-
New notes are written.
-
And finished just in the nick of time.
-
And here we are.
-
Meanwhile she had an LP pressed of several songs that are meaningful to us (including Chantel’s song ha!) and the LP came in a custom cover featuring a picture I took of her on one of our early dates. Very cool.
-
Oh, my! Can't wait to read about it. ;)
Welcome, 256 GUESTS!
Story that I don’t know if it’s true, but I find intriguing: Double Indemnity was up against Going My Way for the Oscars. When Leo McCarey won, he was walking to the stage and Billy Wilder tripped him.
Oh, my goodness! :o
-
Rather a light GUEST crowd this evening.
-
In the Time of Nick.
I cannot look at any more tuna pasta salad.
I have had my fill.
And my fill has had me.
We're even, the fill and I.
-
My Phil has Harris.
Claritin-D has been taken but it hasn't kicked in yet.
-
Hopefully soon.
Are Hanukkah Huts a thing?
It's very well done, Singdaw!
Karl Malden. Never a big fan of him.
-
Page 13 has made its entrance.
-
PAGE THIRTEEN CAT MEETING DANCE!!
-
I like Karl Malden in Gypsy and The Great Imposter.
-
My childhood, he was yelling at me about travelers checks.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I do like Karl in one thing: All Fall Down
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
The centerpiece on the table tonight consisted of vintage porcelain tumbling Santas.
Which some of the guests were rearranging into inappropriate tableaux.
And your point is... ??
:D
-
All Fall Down is a good little movie. When Frankenheimer could do no wrong.
-
Shameful. 8)
Shameful is in the eye of the beholder. ::)
-
;)
-
We've got us a mini-quorum on the forum.
-
Eye of the Beholder. One of the greatest half-hour TV episodes of all time - The Twilight Zone.
-
The two leads are still alive. But poor Brandon DeWilde did not live much longer.
-
I think I'm due to watch more Twilight Zone episodes. I have the entire series on Blu-ray.
-
Frankenheimer direct Eye of the Beholder?
-
All Fall Down has a very good score by Alex North.
-
That would be a great coincidence.
-
I have this odd feeling that page fourteen is waiting in the wings.
-
Just a feeling.
-
Will it come true?
-
Only the Shadow knows.
-
And he ain't talkin'.
-
I was thinking of the Twilight Zone where the monks have Satan trapped in a room.
-
George, you can buy vinyl from Big Lots? I must know more.
This is where Tower Records comes in:
https://towerrecordssalestore.com/collections/vinyl-lp (https://towerrecordssalestore.com/collections/vinyl-lp)
Maybe Big Lots and Tower Records have the same owner?
-
PAGE 14!! :D
-
I do believe page fourteen is about to make an entrance.
-
See?
-
Enter page fourteen.
-
Quatorze!
-
Okay, changing the topic.
Gratuitous Post #400!! :D
-
400th post.
-
To da notes!
-
I just searched "Broadway" and then "original cast" to see what was in both.
-
Oh, George made a boo boo and took post 400. Bitch slap that boy.
-
My Chantel Kreviazuk Cameo message for the wife went over like gangbusters. Tears were shed. Victory!
That's great, Rodzinski! ;D
-
Oh, George made a boo boo and took post 400. Bitch slap that boy.
An opportunity presented itself and I took it. To quote Jack's Mother, "Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor." ;)
