Vixmom, I don't know how you did all that in one day. I spent hours just fixing the roast, three yellow foods, steamed green beans, rolls, and a salad.

And I ran the dishwasher four times yesterday.

I had a very quiet day yesterday. Around 10:00 yesterday, one of my best friends from college who used to own a co-op in Brooklyn and now lives in San Francisco called, then my best friend from college FaceTimed me from London. While we were chatting, Jen showed up with a small quiche. She and Ann are going to Jen's brother's on Martha's Vineyard tomorrow amnd she's taking a lot of quiches, minus mine.

I cooked some peas and carrots to eat with the quiche, and that was my Christmas dinner. It was quite good.

My big disappointment with Christmas was the Grandson was playing games on a phone all afternoon. I knew this would happen, but I didn't think it would happen at age 6.

Around noon, I opened all the Christmas cards I've received, played at the computer, cleaning out what I can of the iTunes mess. I fed the cats and had my dinner. Around 5:00, I got an unexpected Amazon email informing me that a DR had sent me a gift certificate. It was my one Christmas gift and it was completely unexpected. I was moved to tears by such unexpected generosity and kindness.

After I finished my evening chores, around 7:00, I climbed into bed with the cats and read bits of Sondheim's first volume of lyrics until 9:00. It was a nice day.

Title: Re: NOTES OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Post by: elmore3003 on December 26, 2024, 04:52:43 AM
This morning I woke to find one of the cats had not made it to the litter box on time and left a mess on the litter mat. These messes tend to be situated exactly where I need to place a foot, just inside the bathroom door or in the small corridor between the foyer and their food dishes. So, a bit of that gift certificate will go todays to a new litter mat.

I'm not trying to interfere, but I would hope his parents would nip that in the bud.

No kidding, Elmore. He was mostly playing with Grandpa's phone (he had downloaded games on it when we were babysitting). He set it down once, and I swooped in and put it on the bookshelf. I was getting ready to start reading "Horton Hears a Who" to Aunt Sassy, and Grandpa handed it back to him. I was pretty ticked off.

Claritin-D was almost six hours ago - a 24-hour one. And this is a terrible allergy attack and won't stop. All I can do is blow my nose, almost sneeze, and wait it out. Even if I wanted to take another Claritin-D, I'm now out of them. I could go to CVS right now, but why?
Title: Re: NOTES OF CHRISTMAS PAST

The problem with the almost sneezing resides in my left nostril. It's really irritating.

Title: Re: NOTES OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Post by: ChasSmith on December 26, 2024, 06:11:52 AM
My left and right (1) nostrils and (2) eyes are different in that way.

With some allergies or colds, it's my left nostril that is the most active in getting clogged, or in just running a lot. And the left eye will be the one that tears up a lot.

It's not 100%, occasionally it'll reverse, but this is the default.

The problem with the almost sneezing resides in my left nostril. It's really irritating.

Have you tried closing the right nostril and breathing out through only the left nostril,  on the chance there's gunk in that nostril that needs help coming out?  Maybe do that over a sink?

My allergy issues aren't cold issues. Very different symptoms. Claritin-D rarely fails me, but it still hasn't kicked in enough to stop this attack. I'll go pick up more after banking, and I'll take another if necessary.

The most ambitious things I’ve done over the past several days have been in the kitchen:

Sunday - Christmas cookies
Monday - Lemon lime Jello cottage cheese surprise (aka Green Stuff)
Tuesday - Vegetable beef soup
Wednesday - reasonable facsimile of a turkey dinner

The upshot is a refrigerator full of fabulous leftovers.  We just had Richard’s favorite “morning after” breakfast - turkey bacon sandwiches on whole wheat toast.

That is almost funny that someone you don't know blocked you.

Yeah, so I'm reading these Facebook conversations, and someone is responding to Stephen Farrow, and obviously Stephen Farrow answered that person but I can't see what Mr. Farrow said, then the conversation continued with the person answering Mr. Farrow again.

DR Elmore --

Today I started my little Nutcracker recordings project, in which I'll be listening to whatever I have here and keeping track of cuts and anything else of note.

I began with Irving/NYC because you said there was a problem with the mouse fight music repeating. I should go back and find the post, but I believe that was the gist? I just listened to it straight through, playing the copy sitting on Google Drive, and there's nothing at all amiss.

We're in an unknowable digital world here, where anything that happens is inexplicable, so I wonder if your iTunes train wreck affected this. I would toss your copy and download it again:

Act 1:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1twnAhOLZ0UnAMXhZaZ_QIk1nahQpZ270/view?usp=sharing

Act 2:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-WmjVJcod5HAZRysphvMMAQ04x7snZgg/view?usp=sharing

And of course let me know if anything weird happens.

I'm thinking of making a trip to Big Lots to see if I can score some lights for the Christmas Tree next year. They are going totally out of business, so maybe there's some good prices. I don't need anything except lights.

Good luck!

Speaking of Big Lots, last week, I ordered some vinyl cast recordings through Big Lots (I think Tower Records is involved, but I can't find their name in my e-mails).  Anyway, all the records were on sale for less than $10 each!  The total for the order came to $68.37, then there was a promotional discount of $-21.48, for a grand total of only $46.89! :D
Title: Re: NOTES OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Post by: George on December 26, 2024, 02:33:20 PM

Title: Re: NOTES OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Post by: George on December 26, 2024, 02:33:39 PM
HOWEVER, one album is from a seller in England, so that adds a bit to the price ($78.76), and one other is only available autographed for $149.99.  But even adjusting a bit for those, the "new" value would still be over $400! ;D
