~~~SUPER DUPER HEALTH VIBES~~~ for DR DR Iris!!!
-
~~~HEALTH VIBES FOR THE INLAWS OF DR RODZINSKI~~~ as well!!!
-
And DR WFO!!!!!
-
DR Rodzinski, I really enjoyed "The Three Investigators" back in the day.
-
The alarm rang at 5:15; I dressed, and the fact that it was really 4:30, not 5:30, hit me, and I lay back down with Thatch and Annabelle. When I decided it was time to get up, it was around 6:45, really 5:45, fed the cats and myself, and here I am.
God, do I hate daylight saving time.

In Dec. 1958, there was a particularly long Christmas break, so my family loaded up the station wagon, and we drove to Tucson, AZ, to visit my dad's brother and his family. They had moved west from Ohio around 1948 because their doctor recommended a dry climate for their daughter's serious bouts of asthma. My cousin, who was maybe ten years older than I and a very pampered only child, had maybe every Nancy Drew mystery published between 1940 and 4955 or so, and I spent my time in Tucson reading all of them. I never read any of the Hardy Boys, but I did love the two (?) Disney adaptations.

Thems a lotta books!!!

Prayers and vibes for better health for our Iris

Recovery vibes for Rodzinski’s inlaws
-
I had a great number of Nancy Drew books, my mother, as is her won’t, decided one day I was too old for them and gave them away when I was in school.
-
Yesterday, I watched the first hour of Wicked. I stopped at the end of "I'm not that girl." I'm not sure how I feel about Ariana Grande, but I love Cynthia Errivo. I reread the novel after seeing the musical, and I think Winnie Holzman's screenplay is much better than the musical's script. Speaking of Winnie, is she doing a cameo as the older librarian in the library dance sequence?

I'm not sure if it is that moment, but both she and Stephen Schwartz have prominent cameos. I think in the "One Short Day" sequence.

Sending major health vibes for DR Iris.
If you're reading anyway, Iris, maybe just drop a quick post every now and then. You have a community here that cares very much about you.

Recovery vibes to Rodzinski's in-laws!
Sorry to hear about the setback. :(

Took a little trip from Yonkers to 14th Street yesterday evening.
It was: interesting.
This is a high school, and I'm happy to report they're utilizing pretty much the full pit of about twenty with student players and maybe five or six of us hired. It sounded a bit scrappy, tuning-wise, and hopefully that will improve over the next couple of nights. We're tucked rather efficiently into an alcove within the set. I'll have to try getting some photographic evidence.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Mega vibes for Iris.
-
Two!
-
Iris, I will look for that cookbook.
-
DR Iris, it's always good to hear from you. I'm sorry you've had a bad health turn. I hope it's just a wild reaction to the radiation and not something physical. About two weeks before I finished my radiation, I had several days of depression, major anxiety, rage, crying jags, a whole gamut of awful moments, and the doctors and counselors claimed it was all one sytmptom of potential radiation mind and body games.
-
Last night, I had dinner at a restaurant that opened its doors to the balmy breezes and turned the dining room into a kind of patio. It felt great, but it was a big mistake in terms of my allergies.
-
When I went to bed, it took forever for my nasal passages to open enough for me and to fall asleep. Luckily, the CPAP just keeps at it until I can breathe in and out through ny nose.
-
I had a recurring dream about watching the filming of a documentary of a spy escape. It was perfect and everyone was pleased with the details captured on film. After a bathroom break, I came back, fell asleep again and dreamt the same dream again. Only it felt more like a second take.
-
Iris, I have requested John Sedlar’s book from the library. I knew the name was familiar. I believe I, too, have had a cooking class with him or heard him speak with Mark Miller and Stephan Pyles. The three of them wrote a cookbook called Tamales. Yes, I know, three white men writing about a food from someone else’s culture…but it was a good guide.
-
I made tamales once. Never again. You need an assembly line to make them in a decent amount of time.
-
Lots of sirens in the 'hood this morning....must be about two streets over.
The pair of keets are not amused.
-
DR RODZINSKI had some very entertaining posts and links last night.
And some lively points of discussion.
-
I hope I am over my lost hour of sleep. I need to get started on more research for the book.

Yes DR ELMORE there were two Hardy Boys mysteries on MMC:
The Mystery of the Applegate Treasure
The Mystery of Ghost Farm.
I always liked the opening theme of the former.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phWGcOOEPZY
-
Interesting article Editor RODZINSKI - but I'm sure it will not be as interesting or as popular as one that will appear in the April issue.
I think we'll probably get the Pulitzer.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
-
Oh my, I don't remember seeing this, but I must have. It's the kind of thing that was always cut out when they hour shows were trimmed to thirty minutes for syndication.
What a bunch of talented kids. And watch Annette's turns in the tap number - that kid could DANCE!
And we get to see a lot of the second team kids.

-
All kinds of health vibes to Iris and others and all kinds of vibes in general.
-
My sisters had various editions of the Nancy Drew books, which were revised over the years. I liked the second blue editions best. Kind of a dark blue, textured cover.
The family down the street gave me all of the Hardy Boys books after their sons outgrew them. Only one or two was in the red editions.
-
I read them all, but I liked Nancy better. I still have a copy of the Nancy Drew Cookbook.
-
My fourth grade teacher didn’t like mysteries, so she forbade us to read them during our free period. She couldn’t stop us from bringing them into the classroom, because we could read them on the bus. But she would have, if she could.
-
Obviously, this was not my favorite teacher.
-
I was compelled to buy a copy of the new to me autobiography of Lonnie Burr - Confessions of an Accidental Mouseketeer......
-
I'm afraid I never read or saw anything Hardy or Drew as a kid, and I kind of regret that since they were all so enormously popular and respected.
All I have here, which I have never watched - but now I will - is the Walt Disney Treasures packaging of The Hardy Boys. I have no idea how much was made, or how much of it is on there. But I'm taking it off the shelf now for when I have some viewing time...probably next week.
-
I think that's The Applegate Mystery DR CHAS SMITH. I have that one. :D
The entire series with the theme song and lots of interviews and background.
Tim Considine & Tommy Kirk are always fun to watch....then and later.....
-
WORDLE in two!
I am surprised!
-
Car is at the Mercedes place - will have it back by four, finished or not. Hoping it's not too expensive, just cleaning or straightening out sensors. Also, when I bought it in December they told me the next service wouldn't be for about seven months. Uh uh - next month.
-
Interesting article Editor RODZINSKI - but I'm sure it will not be as interesting or as popular as one that will appear in the April issue.
I think we'll probably get the Pulitzer.
Looking forward to that article, Jrand!
-
And I think the HHW discussions of chicken dishes should at least be nominated for the Pullet Surprise.
-
I had them put a new battery in the extra fob and that worked fine, so I didn't have to leave my fob there and now I have a working back-up.
-
Thinking about going back to bed.
-
My fourth grade teacher didn’t like mysteries, so she forbade us to read them during our free period. She couldn’t stop us from bringing them into the classroom, because we could read them on the bus. But she would have, if she could.

From John:
There’s still 93 ahead of me in line for Ina Garten’s memoir.
Wow, there are 22 people ahead of me for the eBook. I started at 57th and there are currently 45 people in the queue. My library also has 12 copies which helps.
-
From Rodzinski:
Today I saw some people doing work on the lot across the street. They had a kind of dirt-sifting screen. So I realized they were archaeologists who have to come check out any property under development to make sure there are not tribal remains. I thought, hey, that’s a story my readers might enjoy, so I went and interviewed them. They were so nice, a girl and guy fresh out of George’s alma mater, Western Washington U., working their dream gig.
This is super cool, especially since you get an article out of it :)
-
DR Iris I am very sorry about your health.
MEGA VIBES YOU WILL SOON FEEL BETTER!
-
VIBES FOR THE DEAR IN-LAWS OF DR RODZINSKI!
-
Rodzinski I enjoyed reading all of your posts related to the Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew.

OMG! What kind of school was this?
Lutheran. She hated mysteries because they were always solved at the end.

No groaning at HHW. But what squawking?

Season two of Succession does indeed have a surprise ending.

And not. Because it's essentially the same ending as season one.

I had a nice surprise this morning to remind me of DR Iris.

Interesting reason.
-
I don't remember having free reading time at school. I seem to recall trips to the library to check out books to take home, or maybe some were also available in the classrooms.
-
I read a few Nancy Drew books and stopped. I read slightly more Hardy Boy books and preferred them. I really didn't read mysteries again until I was an adult, and still not all that many until I began reading them to discuss them with my brother.
-
DR John do you remember what she had you reading during "free" time? I put free in quotes since it wasn't really free.
I don’t remember. But I will never forget lecture on mysteries.

Yes! The blue covers. And the Nancy Dew endpapers were wonderful. My memory says they were silhouettes.

On This Day in 1959, Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun became the first play by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway.
-
Many people don't know that it was originally titled A Grape in the Sun, but it stayed out too long.
-
DR singdaw what interesting information.....have you posted it to the IBDB?
-
DR JANE so glad you like your new doctor!
Yes - I liked the video too. I may go back and watch it again. I knew that Don Grady was a Mouseketeer on the blue team - but I had never seen him dance. He was very good, too.
-
Oy! Does that White House bitch Karoline ("I'm a mean girl and proud of it") Leavitt believe any of the lies & bullshit she spouts in her press conferences? When she's not bowing down to the Fat Orange Felon, she makes sure to get her kicks in on Biden.
-
Well, I'm sick. Of the last hour, I would estimate I spend 49 minutes of it in the bathroom. God, I hate this.
-
Got the car back and thankfully it had stopped raining just prior to me walking back there. Turns out, it's the sensors or something in the front seat belts that triggered this. It's safe to drive, but it will occasionally give me the error message. They'll need to replace the front seat belts, program them, etc. Cost? Over two grand. Not today, Josephine.
-
Jane, did you see this week's new TRACKER?
This week's resolution as to who the kidnapper and kidnapping victim were seemed really interesting and well-acted (especially since some weeks, the show's formula can get a little TOO reliable - but that may be part of why I enjoy the show).
I thought the writing, and performance by the actress playing the kidnapping victim, was particularly good in those scenes.
-

I still miss my former primary care physician, the jazz pianist. But my new one is really good too, and she went to Wayne State so there's the metro Detroit connection.
-
I was thinking about Iris today and came here to ask if it was possibly from the radiation
All my worse side effects from the radiation occurred in the month after I completed the course of treatment

What is a loaded potato pancake and what is Juniors? There was a wonderful deli in West L.A. called Juniors but it is gone now.

One fun thing is in tracking down a wig worn by a thief, the boys father flies with them to NY, and they go meet an actor in his dressing room to inquire about the wig. Then they stay and take in the Broadway show, which I thought was a nice touch.

Also Encyclopedia Brown.

What a weird thing to be hung up about. One thing is, the books are mostly all text and don’t shy away from challenging vocabulary. It’s not like they’re comic books!
-
Thank you all for the in-laws vibes, which I shall pass to them.

Can’t remember if I posted this, but I recently found Don Grady’s solo LP on Elektra under his real name, Don Agrati, and it’s so good! He wrote all the songs. Just good LA pop of it’s time.

Today, I was able to get an electrician and he fixed the problem with the power! For only $600 and change! :o
-
It possibly could've been as much as $1300, so there's that.

A well-known accounting principle is that if you can get the exact same service for $600 instead of $1,300, that's a good deal. :)

It wouldn't have been the same service. His $1300 estimate was based on what possibly could've been the worst situation, then he only charges what he actually finds.

My fourth grade teacher didn’t like mysteries, so she forbade us to read them during our free period. She couldn’t stop us from bringing them into the classroom, because we could read them on the bus. But she would have, if she could.
What a weird thing to be hung up about. One thing is, the books are mostly all text and don’t shy away from challenging vocabulary. It’s not like they’re comic books!
True.
-
Funny about comic books. My brother & I passed Superman comic books reading them before my mother could get rid of them. Her complaint was that we should be reading books. Well, my sister who had no interest in comics really never read books aside from those required in school while my brother & I were big readers.
-
Thank you all for the in-laws vibes, which I shall pass to them.
I guess it truly was a good thing you moved to be near them.
-
DR JANE so glad you like your new doctor!
Yes - I liked the video too. I may go back and watch it again. I knew that Don Grady was a Mouseketeer on the blue team - but I had never seen him dance. He was very good, too.
Can’t remember if I posted this, but I recently found Don Grady’s solo LP on Elektra under his real name, Don Agrati, and it’s so good! He wrote all the songs. Just good LA pop of it’s time.
If you did I don't remember. I'm glad you mentioned it.
-
I loved that in Oregon you are not permitted to pump your own gas. Now that we only have one car I have never needed to pump gas since we moved here. I hope that never changes.
I’ve got bad news for you. That law was repealed in 2023.
True though we haven't been there. It wasn't totally repealed. They still offer an option to have it pumped for you.

The day is a blur.
Don't know why but it was busier for me than usual. My day culminated in a visit with my cousin Debra at her home where she sits daily with her granddaughter Audrey, who is 4. Debra takes Audrey to "school" (a class for 3-year-olds in a private school) each morning and picks her up shortly after 2 p.m.
Anyway, I wanted to give Debra some oranges (Honeybells). It got me out of the house, and I had a nice visit with her and Audrey who presented me with a handful of dandelions she had picked for me!
Before I left, Audrey's dad, Evan, arrived to get the baby seat from Debra's car. He was going to pick up his son, Levi, who will be 1 in April. Levi is at a baby sitter each day. His mother, Becky, usually picks him up but she has had a couple of long days at work as a NP working in an OR. Today is one of those days.
On my way back home, I stopped at The Chicken Place in Johnston (yes, that's the name) and got three wings, cole slaw and a large unsweet iced tea for my supper. It was good.
How any of that contributed to the blur, but there it was. Oddly, I felt better today than I have in a long time. I want to attribute that to the recent medication dosage adjustment my doctor and I implemented late last week.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
-
DR Ron, your day sounds very nice. I do hope the change is your medication is making you feel better.
-
P.S.
Debra has a hen and rooster. She gave me four fresh eggs!!
And oddly, she has four chicks in her house that she is nurturing for her daughter, Becky, until they get big enough to live in a coop. They are in a large container and there is a heat lamp to keep them warm. Audrey loves those chicks, and Debra has her hands full keeping Audrey out of that container because she has to hold each one of them every time she enters the room where they are kept.
-

Sweet. I love fresh eggs. My suggestion is to eat them scrambled or your favorite way to have them somewhat plain.

Don Juan with John Barrymore is a silent film with Mary Astor, Myrna Loy and Hedda Hopper. The New York Philharmonic plays the score. Should be fun.

Every night lately, I watch the first half hour of "The Rachel Maddow Show" and the first half hour of Lawrence O'Donnell which follows Maddow.
As you may know, Rachel is on nightly for the first 100 days of Trump's presidency.
You also may know that MSNBC took a major viewership drop after the election, but has had a surge of viewers, mostly young adults, since the inauguration.
At any rate, I watch the first half hour of each show because it is there that they say their piece on the events of the day. The second half of each one's show is usually interviews with guests, elaborating on some aspect of the day's events. I find their "monologues" interesting and intelligent.
Rachel had one hell of a story to tell. It's best to read it here: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/i-am-not-kidding-msnbc-s-rachel-maddow-stunned-as-gop-exploits-loophole-to-cede-power/ar-AA1AJrtM?ocid=winp2fptaskbar&cvid=d8c6410c245e4b7ab7e55e3af5156177&ei=9
Tonight, O'Donnell's first half hour was full of fury over Trump illegally using federal property (the White House) to promote Tesla for his dear benefactor Elon Musk who has lost billions recently on Tesla's decline on the stock market and all the violence at Tesla dealers.
What, O'Donnell wondered, do the workers at Ford and other American companies think about Trump's singling out Tesla for a presidential, yet illegal, endorsement?
Time will tell.
-
I wish their time were up.
-
What I truly enjoy the most about O'Donnell is that he says exactly what he, and I, think about Trump. He never shies away from calling Trump the stupidest man to ever occupy the White House. Tonight, he eviscerated Trump's comments about the tariffs and stock market saying Trump would have gotten an F at the Wharton Business School were he still a student there.
-
And with all that, I bid you all a good night.
Bonne nuit
Buona Notte.
Buenas Noches.
And, Kalinikta!

The extras on Don Juan are interesting, early Vitaphone shorts of the NY Philharmonic playing the overture to Tannhauser, Giovanni Martinelli singing Vesti La Giubba and Anna Case in something called La Fiesta. There are others, all fascinating because of the time when they were filmed.

Let’s ditch this page.

I just treated myself to a loaded potato pancake at Juniors
What is a loaded potato pancake and what is Juniors? There was a wonderful deli in West L.A. called Juniors but it is gone now.
Juinors is an iconic cheescake bakery/ diner, the first was in Brooklyn and there's one on 45th
-
A loaded potato pankcake is about the size of a dessert plate, with cheese, bacon and sour cream

Operation Mincemeat was very good

I was thinking about Iris today and came here to ask if it was possibly from the radiation
All my worse side effects from the radiation occurred in the month after I completed the course of treatment
That doesn't seem fair when you think you are done with it :(
Radiation stays in your body for some time , that's how it destroys the cancer

The meeting went well. Not too much happened...we mainly just went over some housekeeping things. The actors start the music rehearsal on April 7th, and the first actual read-through will be the 21st.

Larry, I had a severe reaction to the radiation. Horrible, painful rash, which the doctors did not take seriously.
I kept asking them for relief, but they ignored me until it got so bad that I had to go to the emergency room. It has spread everywhere, but Hopkins doctors are annoyed when you dare to ask questions, so now I have to cancel the treatments.
It’s very depressing, and I’m not getting better yet.

Back from a fairly mundane run-through. You take all the time to rehearse the scene shifts, you run the show and it's like they've never done them. We finished late so I couldn't give notes. Tomorrow will begin with my telling this they have to figure it out run it on their own and that it's not my problem, it's theirs.
-
Page 10!

It didn't help that we ran it with the work lights, rather than the director lights - I couldn't even see faces.
-
Show ran the same time as it's been the last couple of times - it just seemed much longer.
-
So sorry to read this, DR Iris. I hope you're on the mend soon.
-
And it wasn't funny - well, some of it was still funny.
-
Our new actress will be fine, but I'll be working her scenes tomorrow at four-thirty, to just get her into the right style of playing.
-
And our musical director quite obviously had not even looked at the score while he was away. I had to give many notes about tempos. We did set the new music for the ballet and he notated it all and then didn't play it right. Go know.
