Re. ALTAR BOYZ: I have a feeling it's a one-trick pony and I'm going to get bored with it. MTI thought about picking it up for licensing, but as many of us pointed out, poking fun at religion doesn't really sell well in the midwest, so I think  we're passing.

What da ya mean?  One of our favorite things to do is dress up as nuns and go out bar hopping!  8)

I think DR RODZINSKI saw Altar Boyz and was amused by it more than he thought he would be.

RE: Purlie at Pasadena Playhouse - I had forgotten that E. Faye Butler was doing that show out there.  She's worked in DC many times, and she's played Dinah Washington in Dinah Was all over the place.  Oh, and she was a Rosie in the second natiional tour of Mamma Mia! for a while too.  A truly electric performer.

I think the most over-rated performance in Spamalot is Tim Curry's. I felt he was walking through the show when I saw it (early in the run just before the reviews).

DR Ben, I sort of felt the same way about Curry. too.  He was performing at just about the same level as everyone else, but it seemed to me to be forced and with little true enthusiasm.  He had the same fake-ish grin on his face throughout.  I had thought that perhaps he was saving himself up for the evening's performance.  To my eyes, he wound up standing apart from the other cast members who were giving their all.

Ben, IMHO Alaska should be on Anthony's list of places to visit.  We went years ago and want to return.  We always thought it would be fun to return with good friends.  I don’t know if it will happen but three of our long time good friends asked if we were interested.  One of them is terrified of flying but said she will overcome her fears for this trip.

June Haver has passed away

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050706/ap_en_mo/obit_haver;_ylt=ArV.EqX3oH1lXflZnIdOtddX24cA;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

It's sad to hear about Ms Haver's death, but I do have to say that her obit made me chuckle a bit.  Now, there's a life story!

And it was at Pasadena Playhouse where I first saw Amanda McBroom perform in person.  The first time I went out to L.A., I headed down to Pasadena Playhouse with a friend.  They were running Harry Chapin: Lies & Legends and Jacques Brel... in repertory.  Truly magical productions.  The cast consisted of Amanda McBroom, Valerie Perri (a long-time Evita on the road), Ron Orbach, George Ball (Amanda's husband), and John Herrera.

-WOW!  That was back in 1988!

...And upon meeting Amanda McBroom here just a few days ago, I told her how much those productions have stuck with me through the years.  They have also remained near and dear to her heart too.

I always liked what Rosalind Russell said when June Haver quit the convent and instead becoming a nun, married Fred MacMurray.

Said Russell:  That's what I call changing your mind with a vengeance!

I saw the show on one of the press nights for the Drama Desk voters. Of the leads, the only ones who seemed to be giving anything were Ms. Ramirez and Chris Sieber, which made him look like he was devouring the scenery around the rest of them. And I'm sorry - Michael McGrath got a nomination over Christian Borle!?!?! THAT was highway robbery...

Weird...

And speaking of George Ball...  I just received word that he's flying out from LA right now in order to step in for our actor who is currently indisposed.  *I hate that turn of phrase, but I just can't think of any other thing to say right now... In any case...

George played the role in an earlier incarnation of the piece, and I'll be bringing him up to speed musically tonight.

And, Don, the actor who is currently in the hospital, is doing fine, but he'll be taking it easy and resting and recovering in the meantime.

Back to work...

Off to the theatre - one last rehearsal - opening tomorrow...hoping for a front page Newspaper photo today!  It's not on the ONLINE edition, some policeman is accused of sexual harrassment so he is the BIG news in town...but maybe in the print edition, but probably below the fold.

For those who like to know - the BEST and most preferred place for a photo in the newspaper is FRONT PAGE ABOVE THE FOLD which means your face is shining from newspaper boxes all over town!  ;D

There was a huge downpour yesterday around 5-7pm.  IT rained so hard that the expressways could not handle the rain.  Apparently there were cars floating in the water! (on the expressways).  My mom was stuck there but luckily she had to get off the highway cause they closed it.  Scary!

I am always getting June Havor and June Havoc mixed up because of the similar names....I once, on this here sight, called June Haver "stern looking" when in fact I had really meant June Havoc....that has always bothered me, but now I have made amends for it.

As for the Topic of the Day, I must quote Jose:  "Ditto." ;D There is just so much out there that I really like, that it's hard to come up with anything...and being at work where I can't at least look at my DVDs doesn't help.  Oh, well. ::)
