I have a new gay-themed movie to watch today. THIRD MAN OUT was done for the here! cable network. Of course, living in the Bible Belt, our cable service doesn't subscribe to here! or to the other gay network LOGO, so I have to hope that programming on these networks that I want to see will eventually be ported over to DVD.

This is a murder mystery starring Chad Allen as gay detective Donald Strachey. A second made-for-cable mystery featuring Chad as this character just appeared last weekend - SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM - and I'll get it on DVD when it's released as well.

Yes, I'm looking forward to getting MY FAIR LADY (1976), CANDIDE, SOUTH PACIFIC (Henderson-Tozzi), and THE KING AND I on their new CD releases. The only one I didn't already have on LP was SOUTH PACIFIC, so it'll be nice to finally hear this version.

Since I'm only interested in seeing the BONES rerun tonight (repeating its season one finale episode before launching the new season next week), I'll need to find a movie to watch for this evening, too. Will probably be THIS ISLAND EARTH followed by a WILD WILD WEST episode.

DR George, my friend Jeff bought one of those mini-frigs for his upstairs office so he wouldn't have to keep walking downstairs during the evening for a soft drink or other refreshment. I'll ask him where he got his.

Off to tend to a few things around the house. Then must think about what's for lunch.

And, yes, I, too, am excited about the CD reissue of Candide!  -Now if they would just re-publish that great vocal score with all the production photos in it.  I've always been tempted to loan one permanently from the library.  *The Arlington Public Library had three copies the last time I was there (which was years ago).

And now...  Back to rehearsal...

*I just have three more orchestra books/parts to finish editing, and then... Freedom!

;)

In other words, I should be able to become a regular around these here parts again.  *However, I think I've officially become a Finale Geek - Speedy Entry and Keyboard Shortcuts are my newest friends. ;D

Laters...

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR TCB!!!! All good things.

Hey, Ben - congrats on your news!

Woods - I have known several Home School families - the kids excelled at reading and math, beyond their counterparts in the (egad) public schools. Except for one Down's Syndrome boy, all of the kids tested way up on the SATs and sailed through their college courses. The Down's Syndrom kid kept his own checkbook and learned to read and do simple arithmetic. He eventually got a full-time stockroom job with full bennies at Microsoft.

The home-school parents were not more intelligent than other parents, most had no real teacher-training. But they were willing to learn, and to put in the time with their children. I think it's intention, more than experience, that works the magic. Plus, the kids get individual attention, one-on-one time, specialized instruction - all unavailable in public schools.

In my experience, home-schooled and private-schooled kids are WAY better educated than the hapless public schooled.

Private or public, kids only spend about 14% of their time in school, so, in a sense, all kids are home-schooled.  How the parents choose to spend that huge chunk of out-of-school time makes a lot of difference, I think.

ASK BK ?

I never heard of Betting on Bertie. What was the show about and who also was in it?

Betting on Bertie (don't know if it's still called that or not) had a score by Wright and Forrest - I think it had been kicking around for ages, but Walter Willison's friend Doug Holmes and written a new book - maybe Walter did some of the book, too.  We did a reading in 1991, twice if I recall.  It was based on Bertie Wooster and Jeeves by Wodehouse.  Also in the reading was Christopher Hewitt, Judy Kaye, Loni Ackerman, Doug Holmes and others I can't remember.

Just heard from Terry Trotter, who has another song worked up for me to hear.  Excellent, and can't wait.  Lunch with the publicist is at noon, so I need to get a new script printed out for him - hence, a visit to Staples.  Hence, I must jog.

Question for BK:

In your new Brain from Planet X play do you have any roles for ex-1950s B horror/sci-fi film stars? There are a lot of them out there who could still act up a storm you know!

At some point, that might be fun - IF they could sing.

Well, I want to see some vintage stars when I come down to  see your show!

Diana Darrin, Rhodes Reason, and Yvette Vickers all sing..I am sure there must be many others who can carry a tune, at least a little.
