I had a couple of bratwursts with mustard and relish for brunch today. Now that I'm back near Cincinnati, which has a strong German heritage, bratwurst are quite good here.

The reason for brunch was I had to get up at some ungodly hour to drive The Lovely Wife to her eye doctor in Lexington for a surgery follow-up exam.  A few weeks ago she discovered she had cataracts in both eyes.  She has now had surgery in both and lens replacement.  The upside of all this, she can now see without glasses and can see better than she could when she had 'em.

Anyway, the early hour meant I skipped brekkie and by the time I came home, I was hungry so had brunch at 11:00.

Oddly, I received several "too many connections" alerts the last few times I tried to log on (one might well ask why I bothered to log off....but I had other fish to fry at other internet locations).

Fish....ugh.

I got the "Too many connections" rejection abouot 15 minutes ago.

Mail Call, with our mailman delivering to our door and Amazon package.

The James Stewart Signature Collection has arrived.

Rent has arrived.

Two Mario Frangoulis CDs have arrived.

On a similar vein, we picked up Lost Season Two yesterday.  We're going to have to take it back, because the third disc is damaged.  I've never seen a DVD unlaminate itself before!  Not a pretty sight.  Not ugly, but not pretty.

Dar Esteemed, bubblicious, creative, and guapo BK --

I really laughed when I read your "tune stuck in the head" comment in today's notes.  This is a very common occurrence for both of us here, especially DP Kerry.  Often time, the cure involves having to dig out a recording of the recurring tune, and listen to it full blast.

Mine is Grandma got ran over my a reindeer...

There was a parody version of this song, "Spice Girls Got Run Over By a Reindeer!"  I transcribed the lyrics and I actually sang in public.  It was hysterical! ;D (I wasn't able to find the lyrics on-line, though.)

Fingers crossed for the inspection today, George!

Thank you!  Actually, I don't think that it'll be bad, at all.

Anyway, I'm off to shower now, then to work.  Later!

I am excited Project Runway finally started here in canada (on the life network) this monday. Since i've already seen the first two episodes i did not ask my sister to tape it for me. I wonder if there is any way i will not find out the winner. I will try!

I saw some clips for last night's Nip/tuck on one of the entertainment shows last night. Right now ctv (the network here that shows is) is showing all the sopranos episodes from this season. Hopefully after that is over they will get to nip/tuck. I hate it when we get too far behind because of course there are so many spoilers going around.

Oh and as for last night's Big Brother. It was quite exciting. Even though i was pretty sure janelle was going to get rid of will. It was still nice seeing her do it.

But i was sad to see will go. He was so funny.

The one i cannot wait to see go is boogie. Yuck!

So do you guys think that erika will keep her word and take janelle to F2 (assuming she has the choice).

I am quite anxious for them to do the 2nd part of the hoh (hopefully today).

I also cannot wait to see the sequester house when will walks in. That will be so good.

It's funny but my impression of janelle has gone up a bit (although it was always high). But my view on erika has changed. She really convinced janelle to get rid of will. I'm very impressed that she was able to do that. But disappointed in will that he did not try to persuade janelle near the end (when he knew the girls had compared notes).

Dear Esteemed BK:

We've all been seeing a lot of new people registered here at the board, but they never post.

Is there a lot of personal messaging going on between them?

All these newly regisered people is happening because of pinging - I don't know what pinging means, but it has something to do with the software we use for the board - every night when I post the notes it pings to other sites.  I used to sometimes see acknowledgments of said pings when I'd look to see who was searching for what.  So, people come, register (don't know why), and then never come back.   I will say, however, this has only started happening four weeks ago.

Some of you must know some wacky song titles.  Any list would have to include Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.  When I was young, I rather liked a song called Flip Top Box.  Don't ask.

Not knowing what pinging is myself, I did a quick google and came up with this bit of information.

What caught my attention was the number of new registrants that have e-mail addresses with Middle Eastern companies.  That's why I was asking about possible personal messages, as a way of people sending each other notes without using their own e-mail accounts.

Or maybe I'm just too suspicious about things these days.

Howdy, folks!

What a lovely day here! Cat brought me a breakfast mouse a few minutes ago - meowed at the door. I opened. She placed it at my feet, and stepped back. The mouse got up and scrammed. She chased it, but it slipped down through a crack in the deck. Gee, thanks. Next time, unbuttered whole wheat toast, kitty...

I don't think we're being used for nefarious purposes, but one can always keep checking the "whos online" button, which will tell you who is doing what and where on the site.

Interesting site, SWW...

I am also more wary of things on the internet than I once was. Changing of the times I guess...

Last few days of cleaning out dead ferns and cutting back daylilies and iris for next year. I planted a small azalea yesterday. It had been sitting on the deck for a couple of weeks. I was down in town to get a few gallons of drinking water to keep in the refrigerator for when I come back. Small chores to finish up before I leave on Sunday morning. Then, return the neighbor's wheelbarrow to his shed and clean up some old woodcutting debris... <sigh> I will hate leaving, as I always do. Then, I'll love getting back to LA, as I always do... Seasons come and seasons go, and always another spring.

Well I am Officially Bat Proofed with a 5 year guarantee, no less. So, we'll see what happens.  Fred doesn't think that there are any bats in the house right now. There was no sign of a nest and that means that before dawn they leave here and go home to their nests for the day and then about 10 minutes after sunset they go out eat bugs and come here to hang out with their friends....yes, I live in what was formerly a bat party house...go figure.

So I am hoping there will be no scratching in the walls tonight, which would mean we still have bats.

I've just been reading Frank Brunk's blog over at the NY Times, where he has a very interesting piece about theft at restaurants.  Very interesting, indeed, as are some of the comments afterwards from his readers.

For example (from the article)

Quote
Donatella Arpaia, one of the owners of the restaurant David Burke & Donatella, told a disturbing story about an altercation with a diner there who really, really liked the miniature silver stoves on which petit fours are served.

The diner, a woman, expressed interest in having one. A server told her that these silver vessels cost more than $300 each and were simply too expensive to give away. The woman reiterated her interest and expressed disappointment. The restaurant sent her a free dessert.

Then the server noticed that the silver object had migrated from the table to a spot below the woman’s chair, Arpaia said. And then it migrated into the woman’s evening bag, which was really too small to conceal it wholly. A manager confronted the woman, whose husband became irate, saying the couple had, after all, spent $600 in the restaurant.

The couple left furious, Arpaia said. But the restaurant managed to hold on to the valuable object.
