Ginny asked:
So, DR Ben, how's your first week back to work? I just initiated our library's purchase of a new set of Grant Guides (we hadn't updated since 2001).
How interesting, Ginny. You may see the books before I do. Usually they are on my desk when I return. This year they were published on time but due to some fulfillment issues which were not fully explained to me, I don't have my copy of 12. The books have been completely redesigned. The information is still the same but the layout and covers are all new. Even though it had a complete redesign they couldn't find a way to put my name on the book. I don't ask for much but that would be nice. Oh, well. At least I still get to take the month of December off.
In answer to your question, my first week back has been pleasant and without problems. A couple of people have decided to leave (one a relative newby and another a long-time employee) but neither departure will have an effect on my work. I have eased back into the process, cleaning up the little bit of work that was left on my desk in my absence and finishing two grant files for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Next week we get paid and I get my bonus check (excuse me, I misspeak, my Incentive Compensation Award). I will not be eligible for a bonus in 2007 because for the past three years I have received an "Incentive Compensation Award" (AKA bonus) For Exceptional Overall Performance During the Year and the powers that be have decided that if you receive a bonus three years in a row you must be taken out of the bonus pool for one year. Talk about incentive!
Anyway, things are good here at the FC overall and I have little to complain about, so I won't.
This is the longest post I have had in many months, I think.
