Well... it could be titled that way too, matter of fact! But it's a historical thriller!

Tonight has been a very strange night for viewing stuff. When I first fired up the home theater and checked the DVR, I noticed that I had recorded DR. NO from one of the Encores channels. The last time this was on, I was blown out of my seat by the surround sound track which had been repurposed from the original sounds stems. (I'm assuming this is now what is on the newly remastered Ultimate Edition of DR. NO availble now).

So, I had about 25 minutes until RUMOR HAS IT came on, so I watched the first 20 minutes or so of DR. NO. Well, they were using the old mono mix (which is on the DVD that I have). I watched it anyway until the HBO mnovie began.

I started watching RUMOR HAS IT (okay movie so far, nothing stupendous; Shirley MacLaine stealing it, of course). About half an hour in, my friend John calls wanting to come over to have a movie night. I set the DVR to record RUMOR HAS IT so I could finish it tomorrow, and told John to come over.

I am a firm believer of the arts for they make the world a far richer place. However, the definition of art is in the eye of the beholders and there are some things that people consider art taht I think is "What were they thinking?"

JRand, I have a confession....

I have nearly said several snarky Jack Deveraux comments due to your first name but I have bit my tongue. I blame Matt!

He wanted to see a Blu-ray disc. The only one he's watched at my house all the way through was TERMINATOR 2 which was probably (along with TALLEDEGA NIGHTS) the most disappointing Blu-ray transfer I own. Looks fine but the dimensionality is barely a step up from the superb standard edition of T2. So, he wanted to see something that would really pop.

Naturally, I suggested CASINO ROYALE, but he had just watched the SD version within the last week and so didn't want to watch the whole thing again so soon.

So, we selected BLAZING SADDLES. Even though the film was made in 1974, the Warners Blu-ray transfer is really superb. Except for the stock footage that's used in the film, blown up so it could be cropped to fit the rest of the Panavision footage (and which looks washed out and grainy), the movie looks brand new, and he was very impressed with how sharp and clean it looked.

Has anyone ever seen "The Madness of King George?"

I was watching it earlier tonight. Helen Mirren is truly an amazing actress.

After BLAZING SADDLES was over, I did put in Blu-ray version CASINO ROYALE and showed off some of the eye popping sequences in the film. He was most impressed with the title sequence which looks amazingly like 3-D even without polarized glasses. We also watched the chase after the credits, some of the Bahamas sequence, and some of the poker sequence, all of which have great color intensity and great depth of field.

Actually your comments have been interesting. I watched Talledega Nights. What a waste of a perfectly good DVD!
