Re FRIENDS AND FAMILY - Skip wrote the music and lyrics for the song "you can't Surprise Me," which is featured in the banquet scene.

My high school buddy, Joe Triebwasser, wrote the screenplay.  He actually was anmed one of Variety's "Ten Screenwriters to Watch" that year based on that screenplay.  It did quite nicely on the film festival circuit.

They did get some comments at talkbacks about the lack of at least a kiss between the two leads.

I loved that song!  I could deal with no kissing or hugging, but there was no connection between these two actors, period.  They might as well have speaking their lines to a lamp post.   Still, a lot of fun, and I truly did love Skip's song even though he doesn't even get credit for the song at the official website.

My find of the day:  After I took DS Rob to the doctor, we went to Walgreen's to get some throat-soothing products and I found

Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer

a product I've used for years and had not been able to find for quite a while.  I thought they'd taken it off the market  :D

Oh...  And some of my fond "memories" from L.A...

Pink's hot dogs.
Philippe's French Dip - I liked the Lamb Version with Bleu Cheese.  Bun  double-dipped in jus, of course.  Although, the original beef version if quite wonderful too.
The conchinita pibil - pork braised in sour orange juice - from the little stand near my friend's house.  -DR Cason may know what I'm talking about - it's across the street from the Albertson's.
An In-N-Out Burger.  :)

How funny, I don't associate any of those places with L.A.

TCB - Skip does gets credit in the closing credits of the film, among the credits for all the songs, which must have been all his agent asked for (besides a little bit :)  of money).  He was going by the name "Walter Edgar Kennon" in those days.

Cilla & jhvw-Easy delivery & healthy baby vibes to the expectant mother.

Of my father’s five grandchildren none are married.  The oldest (Craig is the youngest) was married & divorced & has been engaged for years now.  I have no idea when any of them will have offspring.  It is very disappointing.

I don't think Miss Allison Hayes was ever offered an acting job because of her ... acting talent.

A young man who met her in the 1970's said that she told him stardom really wasn't in the cards for her, what she loved about Hollywood was the social life.

I can't believe I've been watching the Bachelor for weeks.  I think it's just because it's right after DWS, but still.  i'm really curious about who he's picking...

I can't imagine marrying someone who had to struggle to decide to give me a ring.  I think I know who it will be, but maybe not.

I'm watching a VERY long motion picture.  I can barely keep my eyes open, but I'm slogging through it - I will say one thing - the score by Mr. Rozsa sounds robust and wonderful in this other region DVD.

I finished CAN-CAN. There were still some color fluctuation issues that happened throughout the movie. I'm wondering if my player was at fault or maybe the bulb in my TV is getting weak. I need to try the disc tomorrow in another player to see if those same problems happen.

The image is virtually spotless, though, by far the best it's ever looked. And there's overture, entre'act, and exit music, too.

I put in disc 2 in the CAN-CAN set and started watching the making of the movie featurette. There are some fabulous brief clips of Gwen Verdon in her first Tony-winning role in CAN-CAN on the stage. I didn't know these were in existence.

I didn't get all the way through the documentary, but it's amazing that Marilyn Monroe was ever considered for the film. Of course, I'm sure she wouldn't have done all that dancing had she done the part. Maybe the Apache number but I can't see her being able to do the can-can.

Perhaps she wouldn't have wanted Lilo and Gwen's roles combined like MacLaine did. She might have just done the singing part.
