THE MEAT OF THE NOTES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were meaty, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - let me tell you, the cows know from meat.

And the word of the day is: RECONDITE!
Mata Hari, having lived her life as a RECONDITE dancer-slash-spy, finally came to an EROTIC END when she tried to seduce an entire firing squad.

TOD:

I believe the saying is that it doesn't matter how much meat you have, as what you do with it!

That having been said, I enjoy many different kinds of meat.  Beef, in many forms, is up there.  Pork is good.  Chicken is good.  Venison can be very nice.  I've enjoyed lamb on many occasions.

Der Brucer tried goat once, but wasn't impressed.  But he may have just been kidding.

I opened today's note and my eye went to my name and the word stupid in the same sentence and I wondered what I had done. I was relieve to find out that it was my fictional namesake.

I'd better get going.  It's going to be a long day at work, and I need donuts.

Just two, that'll do me fine.

I'm glad it was your namesake as well.
These mix-ups can be so embarrasing.

Only ten posts (two of them mine) since  the notes were posted.  Looking on the bright side, it won't take anyone very long to catch up on this morning's posts!

RE: last night's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES finale

SPOILERS

I have not had a chance to read anyone else's comments yet. But here are mine.

The show was good. But not great for me.

I actually liked victor and was disapointed that things turned out that way so soon.

I thought the whole marcia cross baby thing was completely obvious from the first or second scene.  I really think they completely gave it away in the second scene by having her hubby declare he would raise someone else's baby.  Now i suppose the writers might have wanted people to think that bree had been unfaithful or had gotten pregnant by someone else before the wedding. but come on.  They gave away too much. And it would have been such a great reveal.

As for the edie thing, well that did surprise me. I could maybe see her doing that if she had caught gabby and carlos. But to me it seemed fake.  Plus i know edie schemes, but since she wanted carlos, and knew he wanted a baby, i actually thought it was a bit fake for her to scam him. I don't necessarily think she would have done that.

I"m not 100% sure but i think she is gone. Although i guess a suicide attempt could still be a meaningful story. Interesting.

And as for susan and mike's wedding. It was cute. But i would have much rather them have a double wedding with gabby. This seemed very rushed. It wasn't about the money. But i would have liked to have their friends there.

I'm glad to see that STUDIO 60 will be back starting this thursday.

And tonight's HEROES apparently goes over by 5 minutes.

Also, I believe tomorrow's BOSTON LEGAL is postponed to next week. And that DANCING WITH THE STARS will be on from 9-11pm, so not to go up against AMERICAN IDOL.

Good morning, all!  I have to run down to Toyland for a bit and then haul myself back here to continue with the guidelines.  Here's my outline:

I.  Introduction to the Edition
      A.  Motivation and Goals
      B.  Why the need for an edition of Herbert and Kern?
      C.  Product
      D.  Ancillary Publications
II. Editorial Principles
      A.  Challenges
      B.  Text and Script
      C.  Source Valuation
      D.  Criteria for Inclusion
      E.  Editor's Responsibilities
III. Editorial Practice
      A.  Edited Score and Verbal Text
      B.  Critical Report
               1.  General Structure
               2.  Sources
               3.  List of Sources and Sigla
               4.  Commentary Section
      C.  Categories of Editorial Decision/Documentation
               1.  Evaluation of Variant Readings
               2.  Equalization
               3.  Correction of Errors
               4.  Additions and Changes
IV.  Editorial Attention to Verbal Texts
V.   Introductory Essay
         A.  The Work
         B.  The Critical Method
         C.  Performance Practice
VI.  Piano Reduction/Report

I'm in the midst of III. Editorial Practice, caught up in sigla, which is a new term to me, but I've never had any ambitions in musicology before 2002!  I need to run to Toyland for a few necessary references and getback here and finish III.

TOD:  I can't be bothered now.  Perhaps later.

But before I go, observations/questions:  Might I have reached an age (47) where having caffeinated Diet coke at night is bad for me?

And why is it impossible to order a decaf Diet Coke at a place which requires a two-drink minimum?  (At $5 a glass, shouldn't they be able to take the caffeine out?)

Still, the show was well worth it.  But maybe, in the future, i'll have ginger ale as my drink minimum.  :)
