Day One of Vacation Bible School seems to have been a success.

Where "success" means no need to call 911?

I began my afternoon by finishing WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION which I had watched about 2/3 of last night. Always fun to see Marlene's climactic turns, and Laughton and Lanchester are a delight together. I looked it up and Lanchester actually won the Golden Globe that year for the film (Laughton was nominated). Of course, both were up for Oscars, too, but both lost: he to Alec Guiness for KWAI and she to Mioshi Umeki for SAYONARA.

Back from visiting 3 elders at 2 retirement communities and delivering their NYC surprises from M&M's World.  I took my mother out to do some errands and she took me to the new Frisch's for lunch.

It's very hot and humid in SW Ohio, too.

Next, I watched the next episode of MURDER SHE WROTE in the DVD, alas, another Jessica-less episode, and a very weak one at that. A young private eye and his wife try to gain an inheritance by claiming that an unclaimed dead body is the body of their rich dead relative. Among the guest stars were Michael Callan, Faith Ford, and Bill Maher.

Next, I did get LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES in the mail today, so I watched it. It was the first viewing for me. It's a strange film but an interesting one with this love/hate brother/sister dynamic present. Though Jean Cocteau wrote the original novel and the screenplay, he chose not to direct this and sold the rights to Jean-Pierre Melville. However, you'd swear Cocteau was calling ALL the shots because the look and style are very, very much like Cocteau's ORPHEE.

After I finished the movie, I began it again to listen to the running commentary by Gilbert Adair which is quite illuminating even though there are some long gaps between comments.

I just read the VARIETY review of HAIRSPRAY. Overall, it's a very positive review, but the writer felt the adult casting and execution was weaker than the casting of the kids.

I just looked it up.  There are references to vines [wine?] and bearing much fruit.  I'm not even going there!  ;)

OUR vines have tender grapes.

T.C. BAKER/ADVOCATE STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
Tahoe, a kitten, nurses on Lillie, a 3-year-old longhaired dachshund. A Victoria veterinarian said that, while this does happen, it's not often that a dog nurses an animal from a different species.

Kitten finds mother in 3-year-old dachshund

Tahoe looks like a normal kitten. He's cute, clumsy and interested in everything.

He awoke Thursday afternoon from a nap, yawned, put both tiny paws over his eyes and stretched. And like any other kitten, Tahoe awoke hungry.

But instead of eating from a dish, or searching for his biological mother, Tahoe rolled over - already cuddled against Lillie, a 3-year-old longhaired dachshund - and began to feed from her.

There is a cute video embedded in the above linked story.

I'm heading down now to read a bit and then get back to TV.

I cleaned the dining room this morning, so I don't have that to worry about.

Really looking forward to THE CLOSER. And I read it does run ten minutes long tonight, so be advised, folks. I plan to record it to watch again later in the week as I've done all of the episodes thus far.

I saw the original play translated as INDISCRETIONS on Broadway with Kathleen Turner, Eileen Atkins, Jude Law, Roger Rees, and Cynthia Nixon.  The production was great, but I prefer Cocteau's play THE INFERNAL MACHINE.

3D-Do you work with people at a gym, their homes, etc?  Do you also address the issues of why they eat too much?

Hi, Jane

I do either home or gym, depending on the client.

Yes, I always tell my clients they have to "know themselves." For the first two weeks we work together, I make 'em keep track of every minute of their lives, writing down what they eat, when they eat it, and why. (If they snack is it because they're hungry, bored, sitting at the computer and it's a habit, etc.) When their energy is high, when low, etc.

Once we've got information to work with we work on breaking bad habits and replacing them with healthy ones. I encourage them to continue with their journals so they can track their progress.

While staying with my DH's extended family in the Twin Cities over the weekend, I had my first exposure to the old television program "Pee-Wee's Playhouse."  It's certainly a trip!

Wow!  If you're throwing out this many songs...how many are you keeping??

They're a little hard to count: between 25 and 30.

Yes, that EPA has now been posted, including four characters that have been cut in the week since the break-down was written.  I feel bad about all the 30-something ladies I had in mind for the wives.

Why, you wonder, are they hard to count?

In Act Two, Scene Five, Gabe sings a short (32-bar) song that comes to a cadence.  Then there's ten quick lines of dialogue; then Gabe sings another short song (47 seconds) and cuts himself off.  Do I count that as two or one?

In the previous scene, Act Two, Scene Four, Dottie sings a song that gets cut off and one page later Vivian is singing a song and the next thing you know they're singing their different songs simultaneously in counterpoint.  Do I count that as two or one?

And that's not counting any of the jingles.  Often, there's dialogue that takes place in a big TV studio.  In the background, a live commercial is being broadcast.  So, that's sung music underscoring a book scene.  Do I count each of these as one or none?

You can see why that's not an easy question to answer!

Speaking of counting things, I just got off the phone with an old friend who said she'd be happy to contribute to Such Good Friends!  :D  My day is officially made.   ;D

OK, so bulls are colorblind & it's the movement that attracts their attention ;D

Yes. We did that years ago as a service to the community. These fellas I've posted the last few days are fellas that have been hanging around my house for years.

It was trapping the ferals at my church that got me into trouble a few months ago.

How could I forget about the church cats!
