Wow! If you're throwing out this many songs...how many are you keeping??
They're a little hard to count: between 25 and 30.
Yes, that EPA has now been posted, including four characters that have been cut in the week since the break-down was written. I feel bad about all the 30-something ladies I had in mind for the wives.
Why, you wonder, are they hard to count?
In Act Two, Scene Five, Gabe sings a short (32-bar) song that comes to a cadence. Then there's ten quick lines of dialogue; then Gabe sings another short song (47 seconds) and cuts himself off. Do I count that as two or one?
In the previous scene, Act Two, Scene Four, Dottie sings a song that gets cut off and one page later Vivian is singing a song and the next thing you know they're singing their different songs simultaneously in counterpoint. Do I count that as two or one?
And that's not counting any of the jingles. Often, there's dialogue that takes place in a big TV studio. In the background, a live commercial is being broadcast. So, that's sung music underscoring a book scene. Do I count each of these as one or none?
You can see why that's not an easy question to answer!
Speaking of counting things, I just got off the phone with an old friend who said she'd be happy to contribute to
Such Good Friends!

My day is officially made.
