We've got plenty of Russians around here and not too many ranches.
I was going to say something along the same lines.  Thank-you for saying it for me.

And in today's mail, I received some new pictures of my nephew and nieces - John Michael, Alyssa and Emily.  Nothing like a perfect belated birthday present.

It's the only way they can "see" their Uncle, since he hardly ever comes to visit them.   :P

The joys of being a working musician, I guess!

Actually, all things considered, it's not too bad. Yet. It's only 103F. I just hope he can fix it while he's here and not need to order parts (or a new unit).

bk, you can always just make your own:

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1 tablespoon dried chives
1 tablespoon dried parsley
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 dash hot pepper sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground white pepper
The key is probably the buttermilk.  In too many cases, regular milk is substituted, and it's not the same thing.

From what I've read, the original Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix came in a packet which was supposed to be mixed with buttermilk.  This was later reformulated so that the mix contained buttermilk powder, making regular milk the liquid of choice.

It was then reformulated again, so that it could be sold in bottles found unrefrigerated on your grocery shelf.  This took place after the formula and name were bought for several million dollars by the Clorox company.

Does anyone else out there cringe at the idea of eating something that comes from Clorox?  I mean, it just sounds so wrong!

Last night's fried chicken was put off until tonight.  Der B wanted a burger and french fries, and as much to talk about frustrating daughter and family, so we went downtown to the Purple Parrot.

His burger was OK, but the fries... let's just say that he'll be getting fries two nights in a row, since I was already planning on doing fries with the chicken.

When we first moved to Rehoboth Beach, the Purple Parrot was a fairly decent, inexpensive restaurant and bar.  The family friendly restaurant was downstairs, the more "alternative" bar upstairs.  Two summers ago they changed locations, to a place closer to the beach.  No upstairs.  And the bar is no longer as alternative.  And the restaurant is no longer as fun.  And the food is no longer quite as good.

That's how things go, I guess.

They've probably switched to a botched Ranch dressing for dipping things into, too.  We didn't explore that much of the menu.

TOD -

DVDs - Heroes, season one
Ugly Betty, season one
The Dresden Files, season one
Fantastic Voyage, special edition
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, global warming edition

On that last, the global warming tie-in is mainly through the documentary included on the disc, Science Fiction: Fantasy to Reality.  It starts out trying to tie VttBotS in with other genre films that warn of upcoming disasters, but then gives way to an attitude of "we're predicting global warming, and we're holier than you" which is just plain irritating.

Sacco and Vancetti is also on my viewing list.

DR Tomovoz, I did not know that DP Colin was so talented!  How did he get his subject to pose for long periods?  ;)

He stuffs them! (He always wanted to be a taxidermist! :o)

... or he sings that song from half a Sixpence: "Hold It Please! Wallop, Flash! Bang! etc..." (What a photograph!) ;)
