THE SORRY STATE OF RANCH DRESSING IN NEW YORK
« on: August 30, 2007, 09:07:24 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were dressed to the nines and also the sevens, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're pondering ranch dressing in New York and they are laughing, I tell you, laughing.

TOD:

CD:  BR6, the group that BK recently discovered, with their superior (IMHO) to Gershwin/Jobim album, Rio A Cappella.

DVD:
a really excellent documentary (coming soon to PBS, I think) called Talmud.  I must say that I have had the pleasure of reviewing some truly exceptional documentaries recently, after the execrable Beatles thing I had to sit through.  Not just this, but Edi's S&V, and a brilliant trilogy on Buddhism that I loved, which has one of the dreamiest soundtracks ever.

We have had a week of no (count them) developments on remodeling, due to an electrician's other commitments.  Oy.

DR Jeanne - when I first looked at this house, I knew the drywall would have to come out of the room I'm working on.  It smelled of mold and mildew and I could see where there had been water damage. I ripped out the carpet immediately, but put off this part of it because I wasn't ready to hire someone to do it.  Now that I'm really trying to save $$ I knew I wasn't going to hire someone to do it so....I thought what the heck and dove in. It's been fun.

TOD:
cd, of course is "Betcha Bottom Dollar" - The Puppini Sisters

I didn't watch a dvd tonight, instead I opted for Jeff Goldblum in PITTSBURGH on Starz on Demand.
Not exactly what I expected, it's more on the line of GUFFMAN, BEST IN SHOW and A MIGHTY WIND, but a breezy pleasant experience.
It was good to see Pittsburgh itself looking so lovely.
As for the production of THE MUSIC MAN which brought Jeff back to the 'burgh, well, the film is brutally honest with it.

What a fine day yesterday turned out to be (what's this? OPTIMISM from DR Jason??), despite having allergy issues...

After I weighed in at Weight Watchers (I lost 2 lbs. this week, thankyouverymuch), I went to Ricky's NYC, a great little health and beauty supply/novelty/stage makeup shop on Broadway, and picked up a couple of bars of my new favorite soap. Then I treated myself to a loverly lunch of turkey meatloaf, brown gravy and seasoned waffle fries from the West Way Diner (none of which I was able to taste, unfortunately), where I was able to finish "Gulliver's Travels" and lay it to rest at last. After that, I ventured over to Virgin Records, where I walked out without having spent a penny (no small feat), and then walked over to Barnes and Noble, where I picked up their Classics Editions of "Pride and Prejudice" and "Treasure Island." Then, I headed across the street to Garrett's, where I picked up a bag of their fantabulous CaramelCrisp popcorn and then headed to the theatre, where I found out that I finally have a telephone line in the dowstairs lounge, which allows me to use my credit card machine! It only took 4 years, but AVENUE Q now has a proper credit card machine at the main merchandise booth. HUZZAH! By having that phone line installed, I now have at least 20-30 minutes freed up during the second act, which is a great relief. I'm now 40 pages into "Jane Eyre" and lemme tell you - it's a far easier read than "Gulliver's Travels."

So, a pretty good day after all...

And, to top it all off, that state of Iowa now recognizes that same-sex marriages are permissable under their state's constitution's guarantee of equal treatment.

Good for them!!

Yes I know, goodbye for now,
How long? ~ a year, a day?
Yes I love you, yes you're with me,
here now, next to me, and worlds away!
See I free you, and I'll see you when I see you,
fine, OK?
Goodbye for now, again
Goodbye until whenever then
We're free, that's what we said we'd be,
at leave to come an' go, you as well as I,
somehow each "hello" makes it worth "goodbye" for now!
