DR Ron Pulliam:  If you DO get that box set today - and I truly hope that you do - will that change Wednesday from Blech to Bravo?

I know that I am supposed to be getting my copy of the "Mickey-Judy" DVD box today, but the DHL tracker places the box in Ohio at 4:51 a.m. today.

DHL works wonders.  So, we'll see.

Mine has not yet shipped. But it's okay since I wouldn't have time to watch any of them anyway at the moment.

I was reading Robert Harris' comments about them. According to him, none of the original negatives exist, lost in the infamous MGM fire. So, they look as good as they're ever going to look on these transfers.

Mind has not yet shipped. But it's okay since I wouldn't have time to watch any of them anyway at the moment.

Then you ARE backlogged.  For me, it's not an issue of having time to watch the movies....it's the actual HAVING in my possession the boxed set that matters.  It's the KNOWING I can watch any of those movies any time I want that matters.

Can't do that if I don't have it.  That's the way my mind works on these things, these days.

I had a bacon and egg sandwich on sourdough toast for brekkies this morning.

I was hungry.  The sandwich smelled wonderful.  It tasted better.

And now it's just sitting in my stomach, growling at me.

I'm downloading an upgrade to the firmware for my PS3, so I'm closing this window down to hopefully speed up the process.

It's odd how such thngs translate into "comforting" security issues, isn't it!

Far preferable to uploading a downgrade...

There has been a rather damning discussion of Mickey Rooney over at the Film Score Monthly Messageboard lately.  It's subject line is "Mickey Rooney -- Bright Light or Dim Bulb?"

The consensus is that despite his screen presence in the 1930s and 1940s, he's known to be a royal shitheel.

One or two of the participants in the thread have worked with Rooney in the past.

Still, there are always other sides to a story.

For anyone interested, another thread, with "Cinemascope" in the subject line, has become a repository for color stills of such films as "The Robe", "How to Marry A Millionaire" and "Demetrius and the Gladiators".  Said stills are from sets issued in the UK in the early 1950s....and are unlike the hand-colored b/w stills U.S. theaters displayed.

Interesting link, DR RLP.

Yes, I agree.  It was my dream when I was small to be able to watch a movie any time I wanted and not be at the mercy of the some times inexplicable programmers.

NEVER thought it would happen.  I now I can!  If I have the movie!

I'd kill for a Canada Dry Ginger Ale on the rocks with a twist of lime.

I'll settle for a glass of ice water, though.

When listening to LP soundtracks as a teenager (back in the 1960s!), I used to watch the LP rotate at 33 1/3 rpms and daydream that the stylus would one day serve double duty as a projector and project the scene from the movie while the music was playing.

And The Song Of The Day Is:  IMAGINE

I really liked some of John Lennon's music. Particularly this song.

Sadly for me, it's always the movie I don't have that I suddenly MUST see at all costs.  Once I get it, it's then ANOTHER title I must see.

LOL.....true DR RLP.

I would close my eyes and imagine the movie.....if I had seen it, that was a bonus, if I hadn't I would make up the action on the screen.

Thank goodness I bit the bullet and went digital cable.

TCM is filling a lot of holes in my collection.  And it ain't costing a fortune.
