Dinner guests tonight!
We're having a regular German meal of Soured Meat and Kartoffelklosse.  One of this family's favorite meals.
I made the soured meat last night, allowing the spices to settle in.  Mum continued with the gravy this morning.  I have the potatoes mashed and cooling in the fridge.  Toast has yet to be made, then it's onward and upwards to the big, filling dinner.  As a side dish, I believe we shall have home-canned pickled beets.

RE: AMERICAN IDOL

I agree with DR Jose.

To get to perform in front of the judges you need to go through rounds and rounds in front of preliminary judges.

You'd think that they would not tell the bad ones that they are good. But i really suspect that the bad ones are actually encouraged (if not told they are good).

So imagine getting through round after round of auditions and then getting to perform in front of Paula/Randy/Simon. You might also think you were quite decent.

I mean if last year's winner did not even make it in front of Paula/Randy/Simon in her first city (she ended up trying again in another city) then something is SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM!

Some of the works of Michel Legrand seem to fit in this category also.

I am still needing an explanation of what a "light" classic is.

If RHAPSODY IN BLUE is light classic, then that is my favorite. So is AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.

And this year, in honor of the release of Sweeney Todd, the movie, all Girl Scout cookies will be made from actual Girl Scouts.

Hello, everyone!

TOD:

I love classical music. As for "light" classical, how about BENJAMIN BRITTEN'S Young People's Guide to the Orchestra?

I love Britten! Also his Rossini pieces Matinees Musicales and Soirees Musicales.  His later light music, like "A Time There Was" ain't light at all!

I don't know from the TOD. Most likely I have some favorite "light" classical music, however, I don't know exactly what is considered "light" classical.

A subtle hint, Mikey: nearly all of the 100-number set of the Boston Pops.

I didn't get the call, but I would have been surprised too...

I'm surprised that he got married at the young, tender age of 20 ... thought you were all busy with your career and all at that stage of the game...

Yep.  Page 2.

And more:

Rodgers "Carousel Waltz"
I have a heard time categorizing things I love like "Polovtsian Dances" as light music since they're part of a larger score, in this case PRINCE BORODIN but Weinberger's great "Polka and Fugue from Schwanda" is a piece made from two different moments in the opera.
