I forgot to mention last night that one of the documentaries in the first disc was of radio/TV/newsreel commentator Lowell Thomas. What an interesting life he had!

I remember huddling by the radio listening to the re-broadcasts of his trip to Tibet in 1949 (and IIRC, he broke his leg on the trip back down the mountains which added lots of suspense to the trek).

Happy for your purchase, DR George. Want to hear all about it once you get up and running.

Remember that the set will need some calibration before it looks really good. Rarely do they come optimally tuned right from the store. Use the THX Optimizer  which can be found on many Pixar DVDs (like NEMO or THE INCREDIBLES) to help tune in your set quickly and easily.

I have both of these DVDs, but I'll have to dig them out of the garage.

I must be off now.  I need to take a shower, get dressed, buy a TV stand, then pick up my new TV.  Until later!

And I enjoyed seeing the character growth of Gwen as she took full charge of the Police Force during the crisis.

I'm not even Catholic, but, I would love to be at Yankee Stadium right now.

Didn't a NYC visit from the Pope figure prominently in ROSEMARY'S BABY, also? (was that only in the book, or in the film, or in both)?

I await news of my family's New Jersey seder plans for this evening, but that news prolly won't arrive for several hours.

Perhaps they'll send Val Kilmer to part the Hudson to ease your journey.

The suspense is over.  :)   I'm off to New Jersey for the seder.  Well, I'm leaving in a few minutes, anyway.

Yes, that is the "Sapphire Blue" color that I purchased.  The other colors - Black and Red - were not on sale, so...  I've never really had "nice" luggage, and since the sale and the additional discount were too good to pass up, well...  :)

Pretty color and should be easy to spot as yours, too.

Hmm.   I think it's a good afternoon for "vegging out" on the bed with a book and a dog.

Here, too, except that I am sans good book and sans dog. I've been looking up some of the authors DR Ginny recommended a while back and that I made note of.

Has anyone noticed the trendiness of the publishing industry these days? If you want the latest book by a given author you may find a copy at your local bookstore. But if you wish to go back a few years to earlier writings, forget it. You must look for a used copy. I often buy used copies, but I have some credit on a gift card from last Christmas. I never thought it'd be so difficult to use!

That was definitely mentioned in the documentary. In fact, once he got back, they had to rebreak his leg to reset it correctly so it would heal properly.

I began the afternoon watching the remaing three documentaries on disc 2. All three had to do with various aspects of the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire and two great patriots in the modern Turkish history of independence: Ataturk and Halide Edib.

If I ever knew anything about this stuff from 9th grade World History, I had totally forgotten about it, so this was a wonderful history lesson.

The Indy adventure I watched this afternoon was "Treasure of the Peacock's Eye" which found Indy and his friend Remy go off looking for the infamous diamond of the title and end up in the South Pacific. Along the way they met author E. M. Forster, but I was disappointed to find there wasn't a biographey of him among the bonus bios on this disc.

There are three documentaries on this disc, and I'm about halfway through the first one - Bronislaw Malinowski, the famous Polish anthropologist whom Indy and Remy also meet on their adventure.

I should be able to watch the others before prime time TV kicks in at 9 p.m. for me.

Good Afternoon!

Awww... I'm watching "Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins" on the Food Network, and I finally caught the segment they did on Dot's Back Inn in Richmond, VA.  I actually lived right next to Dot's for a short while, and seeing the place - and some of the regulars - have sort of made me homesick.  -Guess I'll have to eat there when I'm back in the Commonwealth next week.

Both!

From IMDB

Quote
The unsettling dream becomes a nightmare when two figures tie her to a bed. Something that looks and feel inhuman brutally rapes her. "This is not a dream!" she cries. "This is really happening!" Pope Paul VI, then visiting NYC and having mass at Yankee Stadium, comes to offer her absolution.

The Pope was played by Michael Shillo (who appeared in Sean Young's opus "No Way Out"

No, the show was never a big hit. I think it only ran two seasons because Lucas and Spielberg insisted on a two year deal (as Spielberg got with AMAZING STORIES). No ignominious quick cancellation for them!

Another similar fun fantasy show that only last two seasons was "The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne" - still showing in re-runs in Canada - and not on DVD. I was reminded of this show the other evening when John Amsterdam ecountered Walt Whitman in a Civil War field hospital.

There is a very brief, 12 minutes tops, biography of E. M. Forster on the new dvd of A PASSAGE TO INDIA.  From what I briefly viewed last night following KINGS OF THE SUN, the new dvd surpasses the old one in every way possible.

DR DERBRUCER, thank you for the ROSEMARY'S BABY info; I thought that there was a papal visit involved, along with the infamous (and factual) Time Magazine cover.
