HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR VIXTER!!!

TOD- I just love the opening to RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - virtually no dialogue, the actors, the jungle, the director and THE MUSIC!! by John Williams... and finally, their plane takes off!! BIG THEME!!! Oh, boy!

The boys, on their bikes, are trying to get ET home... they are being chased by the Feds... can they get away? Oh, no, they can't! Suddenly, the bikes soar off into the air, the music soars, my heart leaps out of my chest, it's so beautiful.

Tonight on HBO-HD is the premiere of THE INTERPRETER with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn. I never saw this at the theater nor have I seen the DVD, so I'm looking forward to seeing it tonight.

TOD:

Bill Conti's AN UNMARRIED WOMAN theme as it's played along with Jill Clayburgh's carting the huge painting through the streets of NY.

The "Die Walkure" sequence in APOCALYPSE NOW

John Williams' JAWS theme during the initial attack.

Max Stiner's NOW, VOYAGER theme during the final moments of the film.

All of the uses of Gershwin in MANHATTAN, particularly the opening montage with "Rhapsody in Blue".

The Concerto sequence in the James Stewart/Doris Day version of THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.

Today is the second - and, thankfully FINAL - bridal shower for my nephew's fiancee. Now, don't get me wrong - I really like this girl, and I'm so grateful for her presence in the family. I'm not very good at "luncheons" and I'm worse at small talk, socializing, girl-stuff, long afternoons trapped in the din of thirty or forty sopranos shrieking away. Last week's party was very stressful for me.

So today, my gift to the bride is a Cal King set of 600 thread count, cream colored sheets. Got 'em at Nordstrom Rack, while I was looking for a dress to wear to the wedding. Got a DEAL!! (PS- still haven't found a dress... I may wear the one I wore to my brother's wedding, 20 years ago...)

I just won a neater-than-neat item on eBay:  Springtime For Hitler Playbill

I'm not completely sure whether it's one of the playbills used in the movie or a souvenir book for the film.  Either way, I love the cover and I've been hoping to get my hands on one of these.

And now for a day of yard work in my thus-far neglected backyard.  Weeds will be tilled.  Hedges will be trimmed.  Lawns will be mowed.   Glasses of lemonade will be consumed.

I'm up, I'm up.  Groggy - somewhere close by workers started hammering around seven-thirty, which is illegal on a Saturday.

Hmmm...interesting that only a day after the fact of GOOD playing next to PLENTY on Broadway in the early 1980's being mentioned on this here site, that factoid appeared on another chat board.  Coincidence?  Possibly, but what are the odds?  :) :) :)

I had thought I'd mow the grass today, but when I went outside this morning, it wasn't as tall as I thought it was, so I'm putting it off for a day or two more.

I think we all know that people come here all the time, and then things appear on other boards.  In fact, other boards wouldn't really exist if it weren't for this here site (along with a few others).  Such is the way of life when you lead the way.  :-)

And now I'm heading downstairs to take care of a few things before starting in on lunch preparation and movie watching.

E&T yesterday with final rehearsal for the wee play I'm directing. Today it opens. I've done all I can do. And I think it has really come together and should be a cute piece. One of the actresses is making her return to the stage after some time away, so I worry a little about her nerves.

The other thing is we only got to rehearse in the actual space one time, so I hope they don't get thrown in the somewhat unfamiliar surroundings.

Vibes requested!!

Of course people would cherry-pick the collective wisdom of this site. They could at least give credit though.

Oh, hey! I forgot to mention yesterday: Bruce looks so svelte - he has lost a lot of weight since I last saw him a few weeks ago at the final show of DECEIT. Wow. His face is taking on a very chiseled look, cheekbones, jaw line... this is probably because the weight loss has been so rapid - but he does look quite lovely.

Rodzinski!!! Break a leg! have a wonderful time! Don't worry about the old actress away from the boards for lo, these many years... like an old firehorse out to pasture... the clang of the bell... the old excitement. Trust me on this - she'll be beyond marvelous!!!

Finally listening to some LPs I got this week that I haven't had time to enjoy.

Rupert Homes PARTNERS IN CRIME in its vinyl glory.

Earlier:
Frances Faye's FRENZY
GEORGE JONES/GENE PITNEY/MELBA MOORE duets LP
The second Brooklyn Bridge LP
MOTT and BRAIN CAPERS by Mott the Hoople
Esther Phillips FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM
MICKEY KATZ AND HIS ORCHESTRA

Mickey Katz is fun yiddish versions of pop hits: "Herring Boats" instead of "Shrimp Boats," "Duvid Crockett," "Bagle Call Rag," "Borscht Riders in the Sky," "Kiss of Meyer" instead of "Kiss of Fire," "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Katzkills," etc.

I seem to remember reading that Mickey Katz is someone famous's dad. Gotta reserach that.

Music/Emotion:  Miklos Rozsa's main theme that opened The Privates Life of Sherlock Holmes...It perfectly set the scene.  The music haunted me forever until I finally came across it on record.  It still haunts me.

I was away all evening yesterday and then this morning the darn phone line trouble kept me off line.

Congrats to TPunk on the finish!

Happy Birthday to the most adult child I know, The Vixter.

Vibes to Tom/Rod and his show.

Yes, that's right Ben. It all comes together now.  And I remember where I learned that. A friend of TPunk's was JG's personal assistant for a couple years; oh the stories she could tell.

Music sequences:
I like the lengthy instrumental bit of the "Bye Bye Life" number in ALL THAT JAZZ when Roy Scheider is up in the audience and he hugs is daughter goodbye, etc.

The tail end of the movie FEARLESS starring Jeff Bridges. Maurice Jarre created this barely noticeable drone that builds from the big flashback right to the closing credits and it just wiped me out.

The closing sequence of THE THIRD MAN
