PennyO - Congrats on your article making the COVER PAGE FOR-GOSH-SAKES of the BMI Workshop newsletter.  And what a fine article.

My new Mantra is:

"Learn the Mantra.
Repeat the Mantra.
Be ready to change the Mantra.
No big deal.  It really doesn't cost you anything to speak their language." - Penny Orloff

Good advice, but then the whole article is excellent.  Fine and valuable work.  I wish I could link it, but it might not be online yet.

It seems to have stopped raining for a moment - I dashed out with peanuts for these birds. No raccoons last night - the cat food is still in the feeding tray where I left it...

I should call the BMI office and ask them to send me a few paper copies - I would use them to help sell the book!!! to one of those niche publishers...

btw - I sent Ginny the book outline and the article, to peruse for her workshops on grant writing...

Penny - It just came in the mail today.  It may take a little longer to get to the West Coast.  Did you know in advance that you were the cover article (pages 1 through 3, then pages 19 through 24)?

I did NOT know I was the cover article - I'm amazed and gratified!!!

Laura - I love the photo of the beautiful night heron - at the Redmond house, which had a big pond out back, I watched great blue herons fish all day every summer... what glorious birds! something about birds of prey stirs my soul!!!

Yes, you did, and I thought they were wonderful.  However, after my experience with the local arts consortium (not adequately promoting the free workshop I did for them), I hesitate to get you involved with them.

Sounds like the 'coons are acting like cats now.

Hello, it's me!

Again.

Another Monday.

Watched "Dial M For Murder" and "Play It Again, Sam" on DVD last night.  Thoroughly enjoyed both.

"Desperate Housewives" -- FINALLY, the Alfre Woodard character becomes INTERESTING.

Finally, Bree does the RIGHT thing with Andrew!

I'd say, "Finally! Edie shows what a bitch she can be", but it's not news.

"Grey's Anatomy" -- interesting episode.  I kept wondering who that veterinarian reminded me of....last night, it came to me that he reminds me of Chris O'Donnell.  Then I saw O'Donnell's name in the credits.

:D

Hi, Gins! Yes, the arts orgs seem reluctant to do much to promote workshops, etc - tto much effort - and they don't HAVE to promote anything! Arts Commissions and other government-blessed orgs don't have a Bottom Line to worry about - there are plenty more $$$ where these came from - it's Tax Money - they don't have to get anything back. And if they offer a free workshop, who cares if anyone actually attends???

Generally, I offer the workshops at a reasonable cost, and the arts org donates grant money to ME to cover the cost of perhaps 6 or 8 "underprivileged" or non-profit attendees. I do all the promo: interviews, free ink in newspapers, newsletters, interviews on radio - working the timing out at east 6 months in advance to hit the week or two before the seminars. THEY get a successful workshop- with photos to prove it! - and I GET THE MONEY!! for my efforts.

Incentive works, every time!!! Ask me again why I'm a Libertarian...

This weekend my grandneice Taylor came down (spent the night at Grammy and Grampop's...my sister and brother-in-law's) and when Uncle Mike came over she got a chance to meet Bosco!

They hit it off quite nicely..

Taylor and Bosco - whatta nice picture! Wow - little kidz and dawgs... I have conflicting emotions when I see these types of pictures, hear wonderful stories of Normal Life with kidz and dawgs, watch nieces and nephews grow up into astoundingly beautiful and accomplished people... AND read of the Vixter's alarming allergic reaction and injuries, and random horrible stuff friends experience with their growing children... I alternate between feelings of great loss for not having children, and the "I-dodged-a-bullet" relief for not having children...
