Off to tidy up a few things in the den before starting on lunch preparation.

Last night, I had to move all the POIROT DVDs out of the way in order to get to the receiver and faulty speaker, and becuase it was so late when I got things working again, I didn't put things back. Need to tend to that now.

TOD - So many gorgeous love songs to chose from. The first one that pops into my head is "As Time Goes By"...  But there are so many others that I love. Maybe later I'll make a list. I'm sure they'll all be mentioned by then.

For some reason, "For the Good Times" comes to mind. And Willie Nelson's "You Were Always on My Mind" - memory of great love, the fragrance that is left, the soul of love that lives forever, after the flowering and the fading...

Oh! Happy Birthday, Julianne!!!

Yes, AS TIME GOES BY, our favorite love song from our favorite movie.  Which brings to mind KEY LARGO, the Bertie Higgins song.

Topic of the Day...none of these inspire "grand" romance; they're all beautiful quiet songs:

A Quiet Thing (even though it's not really a love song, at all)
So Many People (from Sondheim's Saturday Night)
They Were You
The Way You Look Tonight
When I Fall In Love

Last night, I went to Seattle to see Cheryl Bentyne of The Manhattan Transfer perform!  She was accompanied by her husband, Corey Allen, and they performed at The Triple Door...a great place!  She was FABULOUS!!  It was just an hour and a half (an hour an 15 minutes for the second show ::)) of Cheryl singing and her husband playing piano (he's pretty darned good, too)!

After the first show, she came out to the back of the house and signed autographs.  I had her sign my audioDVD, "Among Friends," which is basically the filming of a recording session, and since it's an audioDVD, if you have an audioDVD player, it is supposed to be so good that it sounds like it's all live...no audio compression at all.  I made an audio CD of the regular DVD soundtrack because I don't have an audioDVD player, but it's still a great recording.  AND BK's very close and personal friend Grant Geissman plays guitar on it!! ;D

Looks like FOX will have a small schedule change for its Monday season finales. 24 and PRISON BREAK will be starting late.

I have thought on today's TOD, but can't think of any songs! I know I have some favorites but just can't seem to come up with any titles at the moment.

On the other hand I finished watching THE BAD SLEEP WELL. What a fine movie...but I did not like the ending.

DR MBarnum, I picked up the past week's mail this morning.  There was no package from you.  Perhaps you imagined you sent it?

Been on the phone with friends for a good portion of the afternoon. However, I did watch about an hour of KISS ME KATE, the 1953 MGM movie that I find I return to quite often. When Warners had that DVD recall a couple of years ago, I sent mine in and got this replacement. Really looks and sounds very nice.

I also watched about an hour of GAY PURR-EE. If you have a fine tuned color TV, I HIGHLY recommend this film jsut for the magnificent use of color in the animation.

The animation itself is sort of more elaborate TV-style animation, but the color they've used is simply eye-popping, and the Arlen-Harburg songs, while not producing any classics, are very tuneful and enjoyable. I loved the way the celebrity voices are handled in the opening credits of the movie.

And Chuck Jones and his wife wrote a sometimes very witty script, especially a sequence where the Judy Garland character is the centerpiece in a series of paintings by renowned artists. It's a great little art lesson tucked into this animated musical.

DR MichaelShayne, is this the song by  Cyndi Lauper or Jule Styne?  I like them both!

I forgot another great Rodgers & Hart song:  You're Nearer

The Jule Styne song. I just cringe

Oh, my, I've had the most nostalgic afternoon going through a box of file folders, one for each course I took as an undergraduate.  I threw away most of the papers, but Googled a few of my professors and TA's, learning:

--My French 101/102 instructor is the general manager for a Catholic renewal and evangelistic center
--One of my favorite American history TA's is selling real estate in a la-de-da suburb of Detroit
--One of my least favorite American history TA's is a professor in Chicago
--One of my favorite American history professors is at the University of Kentucky
--The instructor of my first post-graduate class, American theatre history, is a professor at the University of Washington

I also learned that purple ditto copies do not have a 34-year shelf life.
