Ginny I want a milkshake now.

Well, we went there this afternoon and Rob brought part of his home - it's still in the refrigerator!

I did manage to get a relaxing evening by myself.  I needed it.

LOL, I just saw the guy who won the championship for eating over a gallon of ice cream in some ungodly short period of time. He was standing with his arms in the air and looked like he was about to get SOOOO sick. Why do people do these things to themselves?

Well, DH Richard and I visited the new Border's today and were not impressed.  They were playing pounding music, very loud, and the air conditioning was not working, so it was hot, hot, hot.  We went across the street to Barnes & Noble, where I bought Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, my September book group selection.

I have to say that my experience with the kids I know who are in their teens and early twentys is very close to what BK is describing and I find it extremely disturbing.  I agree that this generation CAN rise to the occasion and I agree that there are exceptions. No doubt about that, but it isn't what I've seen either at work or through the kids I know.  Just my 2 cents.....btw congrats DR Maria, it sounds like your DD is an exception and that is wonderful.

I am finding myself agreeing with aspects of all your arguments for I am finding some of the groups of kids coming into school as disturbing. Granted there are exceptions but there are many that are not.

Obituary for Henry Bumstead

He's interviewed on several of the Hitchcock DVDs, and I think he might even do some commentary on some of them, but as I seldom listen to commentaries, I can't be sure about that.

Except for a few medical sites, including pets, this is the only one I have read, and the only one I have posted on.

The medical sites can be very useful & most everyone is there to share information & be helpful.

There are good sites....

This is an interesitng board with interesting insights and observations.  I have been on a variety of boards over the years ranging from polite to downright scary. There are blogs that are disturbing. myspace has its place but it not something I really go to. It is not my cup pf tea. There are genealogy and soap sites that are downright disturbing as are some fansites.

But then, I didn't want to be a young person when I was a young person, because I didn't care for most other young people.

I can understand that...I sort of felt that way when I was a teenager. I always felt more mature, and certainly acted more mature when I was that age...in fact I think I was more mature at 15 then I am now! LOL!

SHEAR MADNESS ("shear" spelled that way because the play takes place in a stylist's salon) is a comedy mystery with audience interaction. At certain points of the play, the action stops and the police detective in charge of investigating the murder has the lights turned up and the audience can ask the suspects questions about their actions and activities. Sometimes, the suspects lie about what they did and the audience calls them on their lies and then the detective forces them to tell the "truth," well, the truth as far as what we actually saw.

The detective comes in the lobby at intermission where the audience can offer suggestions of further questions to persue and also get information from him on what the police lab has learned during intermission.

When the play resumes in act two, additional information eliminates some suspects while basically pointing a potential finger at three of them. Then the audience votes on the guilty party (a la DROOD), and then we get the denouement.

Very funny (the play is personalized by setting it in the city where the action takes place using landmarks and famous people from the area) and very fun. A wonderful evening in the theater since the actors have to be quick on their feet to deal with the questions that come their way, and some are so naturally funny that they can ad-lib in character and be totally hilarious.

When I got home, I watched the last 35 minutes of LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT as Michael York was the guest star in a mesmerizing performance of a slick womanizer. I'd like to see this performance earn him an Emmy nomination.

One more note about SHEAR MADNESS. It has caught on in a big way here. It has been running about two months already, and was extended another month to the end of June. Tonight, it was announced that they were now going to play through August. It's playing in a 400 seat theater here, and the place was very full tonight despite it being a holiday weekend and in spite of the big NASCAR race being held tonight. (Of course, I'm not sure how many NASCAR fans are also fans of improvisational theater, but I'm sure there must be some.)

Off to bed now. That six hours last night wasn't nearly enough though tomorrow should be an "inside" day and completely lacking stress.

Good night.

I'm wounded, bk...do I not rank up there with Maria's DD and TPunk as less-than-crude members of my generation?  I assure you, there are no thongs in my underwear drawer...

Both Ann and dear reader Sandra are very different than most young people today - and we ALL know it.  I think dear reader Sandra would rather have her nose broken than go to a place like myspace.com - of course, she's not around these here parts either.

however it is neat hill to climb and sit stop and write.... You can see for miles of the flat farmland in the Red River Valley and the rolling lake country in central Minnesota

and it has a fitting name: Inspiration Peak

Myspace doesn't just attract young idiots.  There are some Lexington cops who are in big trouble by making racist and another stupid comments on their myspace blogs.  And they're not the only ones who do this sort of thing...people confess to all sorts of embarrassing things...even crimes...on various websites.  It's insane.  They start these things or come on them for some sort of identity, to attract some sort of attention, to say look at me, look at me, and then think they can say anything and no one will find out about it.  They don't understand: what you say on the internet can haunt you forever.

You are right CP... A lot of criminals and suspected criminals that  have done such things. A recent case in this area is that of Joseph Duncan who lived for a time in Fargo and alledegedly bragged about. He was a computer student at NDSU and I had the unpleasant experience of meeting him once. He was creepy.

My biggest gripe about the younger generation is that they know or care to know nothing beyond their own generation and seem supremely proud of and content with this. It's what I call the Arrogance of Ignorance.

But as smart as I thought our generation was...look at what we've wrought:  global warming; the cretinish George Bush as president; and this God-awful resurgence of Evangelical, Far Right, Bigoted Christianity.  And we're also responsible for raising this over-indulged, self-indulgent generation that BK's bitching (and, from where I sit, fairly accurately) about.

Personally, I just hope the world can hold together until I'm dead in another twenty or thirty years and then "apres moi, le deluge." What will I care?

For now, I have my books, my music, my movies, my theatre, good friends, good conversation with said good friends, and a few other creature comforts to envelope myself in and with which to hold off the oncoming Neo-Dark Ages...and after that, it's every man for himself.

Aspects of today's world scares me... Lack of humanity and compassion that is taught and cherished. Perhaps it is something we have lost and never regain. Thinking back, my grandmother only had an 8th grade education but she always demanded respect and integrity and you were treated accordingly. I used to love having interesting conversations on politices, the environment and the world in general. He was also a great storyteller and I miss hearing his stories.

I enjoy music, the arts and the simpler things such as going for a walk, people watch, and writing..

The scary thing about the net, it has brought an end to some aspects of the innocence of humanity.
