Callie has been really funny tonight.  She's been mad for a couple days about the cat I was playing with outside, so she was sitting with her back to me, refusing to sleep in the bedroom etc.  She was home alone all day for the first time since Nilla died.  Tonight she tried to act mad but after playing with her toys she slowly got closer and closer and then sat on my lap and purred and purred and purred.  I guess I've been forgiven.

I finished watching the special features on the DOLLS second DVD. The little piece on Jacqualine Susann was very informative.

I then was in the mood for more guilty pleasure Fox dramedy so I put in MYRA BRECKINRIDGE. I hadn't watched this lately and had never listened to Michael Sarne's commentary (I did listen to Raquel Welch's commentary on the flip side when I first got the disc).

Of course, he blames almost everyone but Mae West for the failure of the film. He has really strong dislike of Gore Vidal, Rex Reed, and Robert Fryer, and said that Raquel Welch wasn't a major enough star to carry the film which is why he bent over backwards to get Mae West for the picture. In his eyes, she "saved" the film.

He also has very screwed up ideas about gay men and their tendencies to want to be women. (?)

I certainly agree with DR TPunk's assessment of tonight's THE CLOSER. A very strong episode with BIG laughs and surprises, too.

I am back from Virginia. I had a loverly time but I am quite tired. I am caught up (for now) so I don't have to read things tomorrow at work.

I will post more tomorrow. Like my trip to DC, no pictures until the person with the camera gets back to New York.

Anthony was wonderful in B&TB and he says hi back to everyone. He's very touched that you all think of him in Virginia.

Well, he is family!

I've often encountered people with very odd ideas about people different from themselves.

I suspect he's one of those gay men who wanted to be a woman, himself.  That, or he was attracted to same.

I cannot believe it!

The CAROLINA HURRICANES have won the NHL Stanley Cup!

The final game was tonight in Raleigh NC...and the Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1.

UNBELIEVABLE!

And WONDERFUL, TOO!

Supper tonight:

Pork chop spiced w/Greek seasoning and curry.

Field greens tossed with a mustard dressing.

Baked BBQ beans...an interesting mix of white beans and white limas.

Ver-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-y tasty!

As you can well imagine, those Stanley Cup games have been front page news here for weeks despite the team being quartered in Raleigh rather than Charlotte. I'm very happy for them, but I'm glad it's over. The drawn out nature of it going the full seven games has been TORTURE.

Stopped by the Salvation Army near work on my way to the train and there was like 100% turnover in their record bin, leaving me no choice but to buy about 14 LPs. I kinda want to stop buying records because I'm running out of storage space, but they are so fun. And there was some legitimate values today. A very early Parliament LP in great shape, an album by psychedellic band Love, still shrink-wrapped. Question Mark and the Mysterians LP on Cameo. An odd Bob Crewe production of a pianist named Bhen Lanzaroni, two Perez Prados I didn't have, assorted other oddities...
Now I am too sleepy to finish listening to the haul.

Of course, everyone else says Sarne was utterly incompetent. He had only one film under his belt at that point. I'm sure there is plenty of blame to go around for that debacle. The use of classic film clips is the most heinous element.

We watched "Gloomy Sunday" last night.  IMHO - a much better film than the "The Pianist".

Good Evening!  Good Morning!

What an amazing past couple of hours I've had...  Here are some hints and highlights....

For any NYC-ers looking for a great drink bargain, Pazza Notte on 6th Ave and 52nd (I think) offers 2-for-1 Martinis from 5:30 on.  Well, as I found out tonight, if you get the right bartender, he will extend that special to any drink poured into a martini glass.  -If it looks like a martini, it must be a martini.   And those are some very "generous" martini glasses!

;)

I have such a craving for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Perhaps later in the week that will be my meal o' the day - a couple of nutty peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Before imbibing, I headed over to Ars Nova to catch a benefit reading of a new play by Joe DiPietro (of "Over the River..." and "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" fame (among other projects)).  All the press material I had seen for the play called the play Men.  Well, when I got to the theatre, the posters said the play was called F*cking Men.  -Replace the * with the appropriate vowel - and it's not a, e, i, o or sometimes y.

It was a another modern day adaption of Schnitzler's "La Ronde".  The play starts off with one couple, then on to another one and another one, and so on and so on...  However, one member of each coupling goes on into the next scene/coupling... and then it eventually comes full circle.  Hello, Again and Blue Room are also based on the same source material.

I enjoyed the play.  Yes, some tweaking may need to be done, but it was a reading of a work in progress.  However, what I was most impressed with was the cast assembled for the tonight's presentation (which benefited Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS as well as a Youth Outreach Program):

Logan Marshall Green (The Escort)
Chris Chalk (The Soldier)
Anthony Rapp (The Graduate Student)
Barrett Foa (The College Kid)
Robert Newman (The Married Guy)
Jerry Dixon (The Other Married Guy)
Cheyenne Jackson (The Porn Star)
Alan Cumming (The Playwright)
Peter Sarsgaard (The Actor)
Michael Cumpsty (The Mogul)

Truly a wonderful array of talent - and good looks - on that stage.  And along with the usual Joe DiPietro zingers, there were some amazingly touching moments, as well as some starkly "honest" ones.

I could easily see this play becoming a sort of Vagina Monologues for gay men.  Get ten actors together, two stools, two music stands, some basic lighting cues and you're all set.

Today in the mail I got the official DVD to the Reba McEntire/Brian Stokes Mitchell concert of South Pacific and the official original Broadway cast recording to The Drowsy Caperone!!  It's cool that the CD for TDC looks like a record.  I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get the special edition album of TDC score.  That'll be cool. ;D
