I agree on bits of what both of you are saying (Jennifer and Ron), but what it really comes down to is this...this season of Survivor is really fun!

PS: Lil has been one of my favorites since the beginning! I always seem to like the old ladies on these shows! Remember Sonya on the very first Survivor...what a sweatheart!

Oh, and I'm kinda digging AOL 9.0.  Some nice new features.  However, I do find the the "Advanced Spam Filtering" a bit too broad.  I'm just glad I decided to check my "Spam Folder" where I found a couple of non-Spam messages.  I'll futz around with the mail controls - at least now you can do a word list - no more "HGH", "viagra", "prescriptions", "cams", etc. for me. ;-)  But in the meantime, it pays to check your spam Folder.

-There's a joke somewhere in that last sentence -???

Oh, and BK, thank you for the lovely ditty... I'll be sure to pass those lyrics on to the Estate people when they come to see the show next week.  :D

MattH – I am so sorry to hear that you didn’t get cast as Sipos in She Loves Me.  I am sure you would have been wonderful.  I think the casting error probably lies with the director, rather than with you, the actor.  Over the years, I have run across several directors who just don’t want to cast me for whatever personal reasons and others who insist on typecasting me in one type of role only, and refuse to believe that I am capable of playing against type.  Some directors, normally those who have heard of me by reputation rather than those who know my work, decide in advance that everybody else thinks my work is good, therefore they won’t like my work, no matter what I do at auditions. Another director can only see me as a Noel Coward, drawing room comedy-type, actor and refuses to even consider me for any other type of role.

Boy, I would love to be on hand when HHW’s own Dreamgirls invade the Big Apple this month.  I hope we can expect to see lots of pictures commemorating this joyous occasion.  Unfortunately, I will be unable to join the fun, since I will still be laboring through the run of Oliver, which opens officially tonight.  This production has had more problems, infighting, and illnesses than any whole season of plays should ever endure.  Will the production be a classic?  No.  Will audiences (made up mostly of parents, grandparents, and friends) enjoy it?  Yes probably.  We shall see.

Nothing in my DVD or VHS players is probably going to be watched until after the weekend shows are finished.  As for my CD player, it is anxiously waiting to enjoy my very first Music Guy  CD, which arrived in the mail yesterday.  I can’t wait to hear it.  Thanks so much Lyn, I am very excited about listening to it.

I usually prefer the Acadamy Aways losing songs: "One More Hour", "Rainbow Connection", "Ill Never Say Goodbye", When I See You Smile","Pieces Of Dreams", "The Green Leaves Of Summer" and of course , "The Five Pennies". Has anyone found as copy of "My Wishing Doll" sung by anyone?

Back later with the latest playlist.

I have not seen --- nor do I intend to see --- the new CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, but from the print and television ads I don't think it is a re-make, just a new film using an old title.  Other than the fact that both revolve around a family with twelve children they seem to have nothing in common.

The Fight of the Century is being televised in NYC tonight at Midnight on Channel 13: Michael Reidel vs. Boy George.  It's been going on in Reidel's column since before TABOO opened and after two he printed two letters from Boy George he invited him to appear on his show.  George accepted.

MTC has decided not to replace Mary Tyler Moore with a "name" but are going with her understudy who is supposed to be very good.  What they may lose in ticket sales they will probably save in a star's salary and percs.

Another recommendation for one of my favourite reference books: (must check if there is an update yet). Susan Sackett: "Hollywood Sings". An inside look at 60 years of AA nominated songs. The most recent ten years aren't covered in my edition. I am still waiitng for Andy Williams Cd to come out with the nominees from the last couple of years and the featured track being last year's winning Chocolate song.

My tickets for "Oliver" have not arrived yet. Do I just need to ask at the Box Office for the "house seats"?

Someone was asking about a list of Oscar-losing songs.  Well, of course the Academy's own site was no help, but I did find it up to 1999 here:

http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com/lists.htm

Interesting to peruse and see how many great songs lost.

Okay I don't care for Lil. I mean she is okay (she seems nice enough).  But I prefer real players. Although that said, my favorite player to date is Colby (I was just in love with him and cannot wait to see him on the All-Star version).

LOL, TCB, yes it should be quite an event!  I definitely intend to buy a disposable camera and to take lots of pics of my fellow HHW Golddiggers of 2004 and I!

LC--are you going to search for single millionaires with us??

I'm sorry to hear about all the troubles you've been having with Oliver rehearsals, but I am sure it will be a wonderful show and you will be a wonderful, pick-pockity Fagin!

Matt H.--I'm sorry about SLM auditions!  There will be many other parts for you to play, and SLM isn't that uncommon a show for theatre companies to do...maybe you were simply not meant to play Sipos this early but you will at a latter date!

DVD player: a used copy of The Usual Suspects.  Interesting, in that director Bryan Singer has since gone on to direct the X-Men films.  Also interesting, because one side of the disc has both the full-screen and widescreen versions of the film, and the extras are all on the other side, an arrangement I find nifty.

CD player: Jazz Classics, a specialty disc put out by the people at Harry and David.  It's got tracks such as Carmen McRae singing "My Funny Valentine," Ella Fitzgerald singing "I Didn't Mean a Word," Billy Holiday's "I Wished On the Moon."  Cute cover, of a pear sliced in half, seeds removed with a melon baller, and then the half has been decorated with chocolate and caramel to make it resemble a lute.  What a lute has to do with jazz escapes me, but the cover is as delicious as the songs contained on the CD.

An occasional visit to the local Harry and David outlet may be necessary in our house.  Der Brucer made the mistake a few years ago of buying a bag of their Fruit Chocolates, which are fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and bing cherries which have been covered with chocolate and a hard candy shell.  He then offered some to his elder grandson, who thought the candies the best things imaginable!  They have since become known as "Grandpa's Candies," and a supply must be kept in stock at all times.  Pricy little goodies.

Oh, Academy Award Winning Songs?

"The Way You Look Tonight," "Secret Love," "Windmills Of Your Mind," "I'm Easy," "Sooner or Later," and "Colors of the Wind."

I'm also partial to "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," because I can dance a really sexy bunny-hop to the song.  Never have learned how to marengue, but I sure can bunny-hop!

DVD for tonight: "Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage War"
Cds: Barbara Cook "Count Your Blessings",Andre Gagnon "Impressions", Ferrante & Teicher "All Time Great Movie Themes".
I also have a borrowed DVD "Salaam Bombay Dreams" (the story behind the musical) which is 4 hour long! I've only played the CD once so I am not sure how far I'll get with the DVD. Maybe this is more of an MBarnum event.

The Oscar songs have the same problem as all awards (other Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, et. al.) - it's all a matter of timing.  There are some years where every nominee is worthy of winning and even the losing nominations are better than the winners from other years; some years where there is one clear winner among an otherwise weak field; and some years where nothing deserves to win and the award goes to the least offensive of the nominees.
