Hmmm, I was hoping to play Linus or Snoopy in the Camp Loyaltown production of ...CHARLIE BROWN, and ended up getting cast as Lucy.  Never would have thought of that before it happened.

Camp Loyaltown was an all-boys camp, BTW.

Thanks to M Barnum and his mastery of wizzbang technology I have watched a "geiko" commercial. The accent is by no means Australian .  It is very much pseudo Cockney.

Hey! I'm catching up.  I now can join in the discussion of the Tony Awards.

Even given that "Best Musical" is an "over all" award I don't really understand how any show with a score that is not, for the most past, written for the stage, should be even a contender as best musical. Given that shows with film scores and juke box catalogue songs  can win, revived musicals should be able to win best musical.

I feel better now.  (I'm still not over "The Lion King" winning).

For those who noticed my absence.  I was at the theatre.  I slept through the performance and missed all the incisive dialogue and action that I believe was for the most part a cut above the rest.

Special thanks to DR's TCB. François, Ben and Larry.

Molly and her cat will be on the way to seattle in about two and half hours.

She came to visit for about an hour ... and I don't know when I will see her again...although she promises a visit in January.

Hoping that she will be home to stay BEFORE then....time will tell.

Ah, you could come to Seattle and visit her (and a few other individuals).

My good friend Matthew came over to give me a lesson in eBay selling, and then we stepped out to Hanafin's for a tasaty dinner.  I have my homework for the weekend waiting for me because I have a ton of crap to move out of this apartment, and I am not referring to my own avoirdupois.

DR MattH, Beverly's a better role!  Wasn't it fun?  You might know the answer to this query:  any date set for Mae West #2, especially SHE DONE HIM WRONG?

Well, here's what I wrote yesterday, DR Michael Shayne:

<Before I put in MEDIUM, I finshed watching "I Sing the Body Electric" from the third season of THE TWILIGHT ZONE which I had begun last night. David White (Larry Tate from BEWITCHED) played the father and among the children was Veronica Cartwright. She must have done this right before starting THE BIRDS. Anyway, she's marvelous in the show.>
What did you read?

I could have sworn that I read Angela! I must have her on my mind as I just saw the sound of music kids reunion film over the weekend. So sorry,

Der Brucer and I were discussing this a few days ago, while in the car.

My theory is that what has been cut from the CBS is almost without exception the musical sequences, due to the difficulties of obtaining the rights to the songs.  Back when CBS was originally broadcast, they probably weren't thinking of home video, or even syndication rights.  Our loss, of course.

You are absolutely correct and so was everyone else who answered this question. The songs were dropped  because of:

1) The music rights.
2) It would date the shows.
3) It is easier to sell (at that time) a half hour show in syndication than a hour show.
4) Comedy shows in syndication were (at the time) the best sellers.

BUT>>>>
They did keep the sketches that had the original songs written for the show by Ken and Mitzie Welch (special musical material)

And does anyone remember that
The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson tried to package 30 minute episodes with their comedy sketches?

Cillaliz -- what else are you going to do in LA?

Not totally sure. I'm hoping to finally meet our esteemed BK and possibly go to the cabaret - sort of depends on the transportation situation and how far it is from the hotel etc. If PennyO is in town, I'm hoping to see her too.  I'm really only there a couple days, so it shouldn't be hard to entertain myself

The cats actually got along for a little while tonight.  Near the end, Callie thought she had Boo cornered, but I distracted her and Boo ran out of the room down the hall and into her room.  It reminded me of the kids game where you run home and say "safe"

-I'm not "complaining" about the week already seeming to go slowly - even though it is only Tuesday... It's just that the past couple of days have been pretty jam-packed, and the next couple of days will also be jam-packed.

I guess since I started rehearsals last Friday for Dear Edwina, my work week started then.  So, I'm guessing my body and mind(?) thinks it's already Thursday.  Or something like that.

Well, I think I am finally doing one thing right. When they are first together, I am petting Callie and acknowledging her first.  I read somewhere I should do that. It actually seems to be working.  Funny how one little thing can make a difference.  Anyway, it's been one step forward two steps back.  I think we may be moving to two steps forward and one step back. That's progress.

In any case...

Todays' Six-Month Required EPAs for The Phantom of the Opera were truly an all-day affair.  By the time that the casting director and I arrived at Chelsea Studios for the start of today's auditions, there were quite a number of people already signed up on both the Equity and the non-Equity lists.  By the end of the day, we had seen about 200 people - every available slot had been taken - and there were over 100 pictures and resumes left by people who were not able to be seen today!

All in all, it was quite a talented bunch of actors/actreses/singers.  Since it was a call for Phantom, I had a chance to give my classical-opera chops a workout every now and then.  I had a fun day.  It was a long day, but fun.  And I have to say that Ron LaRosa has to be one of the, if not THE most generous and supporting casting director out there.  He listened to everyone, and even offered some bits of constructive criticism every now and then to some of his "regulars".  It's always a pleasure being "behind the table" with him.

As usual, I had a couple of mini-reunions throughout the day.  There were even a few people making their first Broadway auditions, and I hoped that I played well enough to give them a good first impression of the Big Time.

Of course, there were a couple of "interesting" auditions.  In fact, I'm still sort of puzzling over two auditionees in particular.  And once I get the details figured out - or at least recounted and assembled - then maybe I'll share the stories...
