THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
« on: July 28, 2006, 12:07:47 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had The Butterfly Effect and have changed the world, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to change the world so that they can then have The Cow Effect.  Fat chance, cows.

I'm still getting yesterday's notes! And it's tomorrow here - and has been for 17 hours +
Moths have eaten butterflies and left me with yesterday.

Assuming the TOTD:

I've been listening to and recording tracks by
Debbie Reynolds
Elton John
The Playmates
Jefferson Airplane
Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart
Smokie
Neil Sedaka
New Christy Minstrels
Petula Clark

And the link is:

I took my nets of wonder and found the elusive butterflies in the canyons of the archives. Access achieved.  Very odd.

And the word of the day is: EXPLICATE!
Gerald's attempts to EXPLICATE the instructions "PLACE EXIT sign above egress door" by rephrasing them in twelve or thirteen different ways were doomed from the start, since his work crew only spoke Klingon.

Good morning, all!  I had a wonderful dinner last night with my friends Cathie and Alice, whom I haven't seen in eons.   Cathie's been through knee surgery and physical therapy, and stairs are a problem for her; she just retured last June and now operamania and diva biographies are consuming her liesure hours.  Alice just retired as principal of a school in the Bronx, and in the past year she's been to Hawaii and to Oregon for family events.  It was a wonderful 3-hour Italian dinner at Al Dente on Amsterdam Avenue, and it was such fun to catch up on a lot of gossip with two wonderful ladies.

Today, I'm off to Toyland for a few hours, then back here to veg out before my trek back to the Village to see our DR Jose's show.

TOD:
CD:  Jeepers Creepers, Sinatra sings Porter
  DVD:  Julius Caesar, several operas
  VCR:  cheap porn

DR Jose, anywhere in the theatre is fine, but I'd prefer to sit on the aisle.

I'll meent you at the show and perhaps we can dine after?

We just finished watching "Metropolis".
Confession:  Neither of us had ever seen it. A classic indeed.  Now I'd like to see it with the Georgio Moroder score and/or the Pet Shop Boys version.

Larry - I must say (at the risk of sounding overly effusive) that your posts on the Catsrecl list are so well-written and educational.   I learn so much about musical theater history from reading them.  Thank you for the time and energy and knowledge you put into them.

Jrand -

DROWSY CHAPERONE SPOILER

Unless it's changed since the preview I saw, I'm fairly sure the spitting goes both ways.  There are several spit takes.  They are hilarious, but I started wondering about the real-life actors' health a little, in this fabulous show.

DR DJL,  that's so effusive!  And appreciated.  Thanks so much.  What do you think of that whole brouhaha involving Vera Charles and that snippy post?  I'm grateful to our DR JMK for referring me to the Cast Recording list.

I'm also happy that my friend Larry Blank is so literate as well; I've known him since 1981 or so, and he's always been such a fantastic raconteur.  It was Larry who introduced me to Harvey Schmidt, and I'm eternally grateful for that.  If he ever gives up his career as a wonderful orchestrator and conductor, he should go onto the lecture circuit.

Um... That was my "alarm" this morning.  Since I had to head out anyway to move my car, I was able to check out the source of the commuter aggravation.  It turned out to be a broken traffic signal a block away from my apartment.  It was stuck on red.  So, when the traffic starting building up, the horns started going... And they were usually right outside my apartment, so..  But at least it got me up and out of bed.  :-\

Well...  I think between the two of you, you could write an exhaustive history of musical theatre... As well as a great book of "stories" about some of the luminaries, would-be luminaries, and thinks-they-are-a-luminary in this biz.  Well, make that books.

Hmm...  Larry & Larry - Sounds like a team to me!

The next time I get them, I'm tempted to ask for a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
