DR Vixmom, what horrendous stories. As Thelma Ritter said in ALL ABOUT EVE, "Everything but the dogs snappin' at her rear end." Seriously, I'm very sorry for all the problems. We all seem to go through dark times on occasion. I'm sorry it seems to be your turn now.

Loved the photos, DR Tomovoz. Thanks fo much for sharing them. What a wonderful celebration!

My grandmother made it to within a month of her 100th birthday, so I know how excited all must be for this event.

DR td, I also made a DVD-R of THE SINGING NUN. Always loved the music, even with the "Americanized" lyrics to the songs. Debbie does a wonderful job singing them. In fact, I think it's the best singing she ever did in any of her films.

I have AT LONG LAST LOVE on a homemade VHS tape, and I really should dub it over to a DVD-R as well. You're undoubtedly right; Fox is probably in NO hurry to port this over to a commercial DVD.

On the live show howie went ballistic when his buzzer did not work in the HOH comp (that erika won). Anyhow at 10:30pm PT they redid the comp and Janelle won.

I meant to mention the song that Chad Everett plays on the piano during THE SINGING NUN (Debbie falls asleep during his performance so it gets interrupted in the film; it's complete on the soundtrack LP). I don't have my soundtrack LP handy to give it a title, but that is one of the loveliest songs I've ever heard. Someone should have put lyrics to it.

Dear Esteemed, mysterious, introspective, and transcendental BK --

Now I'm becoming concerned...... in the past day you have been sitting on the fence, and now you toy with an "abyss of darkness."  This definitely calls for stabs of diminished chords, and a Theremin melody in the background!

You stay away from that abyss while eating red licorice .... you'll poke your eye out !!

UN BE LIEV ABLE

The saving grace, of course, is that a few others had faulty buttons, too.  James acknowledged a problem.  And Mike Boogie was apparently allowed to continue playing when the same thing happened to him that happened to Howie in the first competition.

The only problem with this for me is that I was hoping for Janelle to win the Coup d'Etat and then spring it on everyone at the next eviction....totally overturn Erika and her noms and put up two people...with live voting starting immediately.  THAT would have been GREAT TV!

I think Janelle is the best person in the house for figuring the clues out...she's clearly the most committed and determined player in the game...IMO, of course.

TOD:

I got a bunch of $2 DVDs at the Wal-Mart in the little town in northern Wisconsin where we stayed whilst visiting Betsy's family.  So we have been slowly making our way through those.  We started Changing Lanes, with Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson, but, only 33 minutes in, have already pretty much given up as both characters simply do the most outrageously illogical things that one wants to scream at the television.  Toni Collette is, as always, awesome and completely unrecognizable.   :D

CD:  had a hankering for Keith Jarrett this morning, so am listening to Facing You, an album that blew my mind when I first heard it in college centuries ago.

Special request:  Do any of you have the sheet music for JRB's Summer in Ohio?  I need it for an audition on Monday and someone took my copy and I don't know if I can get to a music store.  If you could email me PDFs/Jpegs, I'd be ever so grateful.

TD, did you get to see Salaam Namaste? I saw the movie during my trip to New York last year and thought it was quite good and it made me a fan of Saif Ali Khan...and the soundtrack is snappy particularly the title song which I kept singing to myself on the flight back to Oregon.

BK, that would be so much fun to have an HHW get together in December! My B'day is on the 10th so we could have quite a partay!

If I can save some pennies maybe I can make... I really, really would love to see one of your LA productions!

We shall see.

The second half is where things faltered for me. There are some tuneful ditties, but I was never a huge Dr. Seuss fan, so I went in with no expectations, and the banal book didn't let me down.

Back from my errands, and it's getting very sticky outside. Glad I'll be in for the rest of the afternoon and evening. And there's a cloud cover that's keeping things from getting too heated.

Banal is a good word.

I thought the N O T E S were a bit wide.  Perhaps the server is giving MR BK more for his money.

BIG BROTHER SPOILERS SINCE LAST NIGHT'S LIVE SHOW.

.

.

.

UN BE LIEV ABLE

The saving grace, of course, is that a few others had faulty buttons, too.  James acknowledged a problem.  And Mike Boogie was apparently allowed to continue playing when the same thing happened to him that happened to Howie in the first competition.

Great minds think alike. I was also hoping that Janelle would win the coup d'etat and overthrow erika's noms.

But my sis said that julie chen mentioned that whoever won the coup d'etat could use it in the next 3 weeks. So janelle could still win and use it next week.

I sort of feel bad for erika. It was not her fault. ANd she should get something at least. Or maybe they could have restarted the comp from the point where the buzzers didn't work.

Apparently danielle has submitted a guess. Not sure if the female sheep "ewe/you" is the only clue so far. But i think will and james are working with her (she will help them).

Friday greetings!  The ice cream pie made it to work, a little smushed, but still tasty.  Today's potluck is not the best organized, but at least there's a variety.

TOD - in honor of yesterday's topic, I listened on my way to work to the BK-produced, Elmore-orchestrated Brett Barrett Kander & Ebb CD.  DVD:  NCIS, Season 1, disc 5.

DR JRand, when DH Richard and I saw an excerpt, at an arts showcase, from a local company's upcoming production, we decided we'd seen enough and didn't need to buy tickets for the whole thing.
