Back from a pointless meeting, which did not make me happy - I may forego doing this particular act.  Have to think about it.

I'm off to the NYPL, and then to a Nun rehearsal.  More to follow . . .

I'm at DML, spending a dreaded hour at the Computer Services Desk  :P

I'd rather be going to the NYPL with you, DR Elmore!

Hi, DR George!  Any news on the condo front?  I have something to send you - don't move without sending me your new address, OK?

Hi, Ginny!  Well...a decision has been made.  I'm going to accept the seller's "offer" of her paying the closing costs and I'll pay the full asking price.  It's in the perfect location and it has a garage and a few other things that add up to a deal that I probably can't beat. :)

So...unless my financing is a total bust, I'm going to buy a condo!  But I won't be moving just yet, so go ahead and send to my current address whatever you're going to send me! ;D Thanks in advance!!

It may be a long, long time from May to December.

But September got here awfully fast.

I never thought of the New York Public Library as a NYPL before.

Most curious.

Good afternoon!

What a pleasure to run my errands with it cool and delightful outside. As I said the last time we had a cool day, fall cannot get here soon enough to suit me.

I didn't get around to project RUNWAY yet. I suspect I'll see it before I head off tonight, but I haven't seen it yet.

I'm thrilled for you, DR George! I remember that mixed sense of excitement and dread when I bought my house (where I'm still living). I kept wondering if the money would be too much for me to be able to afford, but all turned out well and then some. I'm sure you made a wise decision.

In the mail yesterday, in addition to a lovely couple of DVD-Rs...was Ken Mandelbaum's "A Chorus Line and the Musicals of Michael Bennett".

Appalled.

That's what I am.

Appalled.

"All Fall Down" was not among the movies selected in the poll at amazon.com for WB to release.  While "Best Foot Forward" will be among the first two...we'll get no "All Fall Down" for a while.

BUT..."Gymkata", one of the great BOMBS of all time...THAT made the cut.

Can anyone begin to guess/imagine/explain WHY?

I started my afternoon of viewing with the Edit Head featurette on the TO CATCH A THIEF DVD. If I had watched it before, I didn't remember it at all. Supposedly it's just about her Paramount career (which amount to the greatest chunk of her professional career anyway), but it really only scratched the surface. She really deserves a lengthy documentary about her career with both positives and negatives. The doc on the DVD was mostly a puff piece. Bob Mackie admitted she wasn't the best Hollywood designer, but that was the extent of the objectivity in the piece.

Yes, that really made me mad, too. While I was delighted about BEST FOOT FORWARD and PRESENTING LILY MARS, I was unhappy over ALL FALL DOWN not making the cut. Doesn't mean it won't be released. Just not right away.

As for GYMKATA, I suspect there are folks who adore it just like people adore other really rotten movies. I just don't want to know them! (Now, if Mitch Gaylord had starred instead of Kurt THomas, I might be a fan!  :D )

Since I was on TO CATCH A THIEF, I watched the other featurettes on the special features menu on the making of the film. Nice background, nice to see Hitchcock's granddaughter (very pretty lady).

All of these voters choice DVDs will come out - the release dates are already set.  The voting is a publicity gimmick and means nada.

So watching the making of TO CATCH A THIEF made me curious to watch TO CATCH A THIEF again, so I watched the first 40 minutes or so of it. Always enjoyable, but definitely one of the lesser Hitchcocks of the 1950s.

While I'm not quite ready to pop the surprise in my notes, I'll pop it right here on the discussion board - Mr. Kevin Spirtas will be playing one of the leading roles in The Brain From Planet X.  We're very excited.

Speaking of RENT, the friends that I'm going to dinner with asked me to bring some movies to pick from to watch after we get back to their house. RENT is one in the group I'm taking. I'll let them decide.

DR DAKOTACELT did you get an answer to your question about television schedules for the week of January 28, 1984?  Let me know what you need, if you still need it, and I will check newspaperarchive.com to see I can help.

I am going to see THE ILLUSIONIST once TKAM gets open.

I have been remiss in saying that the information that DR GINNY sent me has been passed around, discussed, and enjoyed by the cast and staff.

AND the copy of the book that DR CILLALIZ had autographed by Ms. Mary Badham (Scout) to Putnam County Playhouse has a prominent spot in the lobby display case.

Hold your hats and hallelujah, I have just completed watching the DR MBARNUM recommended MUNECOS INFERNALES.

It is a frightening movie that is very interesting in subject and execution.  it is truly the work of a demented creative staff.  I have NOT watched the American K. Gordon Murray version yet.

What is really unusual is that an ACTRESS is top billed and is the protaganist in the story.  She does NOT defer to her fiance - whom she is reluctant to marry at all.  She is the expert in voodoo, ancient rituals, black magic, AND zombies....but I will not reveal the ending.

This role is played by an actress with my new favorite celluloid moniker:
Elvira Quintana.  She is stunningly beautiful.  She had been a store clerk working to pay for acting lessons, had gotten a few small parts in films....then DANCE TEN; LOOKS THREE - she got her nose fixed and silicone injections and became an ESTRELLA in her next movie.

The superstructure is indeed impressive - and I don't know HOW they painted those eyebrows on!  Sadly Elvira passed away in 1968 at age 33 from complications of those silicone injections.

Oh...did I tell you that midgets play the dolls when they go on their murderous rampages....sent by the Sorcerer whose office has a disco ball.  And that there is a car that has the front/headlights of a 1959 Dodge and the trunk/tail lights of a 1959 Plymouth?

BER-SERK!!!  And high recommended.  Thanks, DR MBARNUM. 8)
