Unfortunately, all the evening shows are sold out and it's the last performance.

Well, I guess for you Tom the show is NONE!

The non British born partner will now have equal rights (eg ability to work in the UK) as does his partner.

With Tony leaving soon there's an opening in the government....

Just a suggestion! ;)

And not NINE which, of course, is a completely different show, even though it got a Call From The Vatican...

I always have said that THE BROKEN HEARTS CLUB is a gay version of FRIENDS, and I like it, too. Yes, some of it is underdeveloped and a tad melodramatic (the Zach Braff storyline), but the other characters are interesting, and I cared about each one of them.

My cd player has been jiggy with Disney music, Simply Sondheim (both cds as mentioned by Tom de Oz), some French operettas, some Ben Bagley cds and ... the last concert performed by Bing Crosby at the London Palladium with Rosie as guest star. It's just (simply?!) wonderful!

Rosie O'Donnell appeared with Bing Crosby?  Well, now we know what killed him.

I began my evening of videos with "The Veiled Lady," a Hercule Poirot one hour mystery. Quality wise, it was much better than the previous one hour show which I viewed this afternoon (though not equalling the video quality of later transfers). The caper is one of the most amusing as Poirot becomes a thief in order to steal an incriminating letter for his client from a blackmailer.

Next came the Dietrich film GOLDEN EARRINGS. I misread the box thinking THE FLAME OF NEW ORLEANS was the first film on the second disc, but it was actually on the back of the first disc.

Anyway, I had never seen GOLDEN EARRINGS, and it was a fun World War II "journey" picture. Dietrich, playing a fairly wild gypsy, steals the picture every time she makes an appearance.

Finished the evening with a documentary I taped from AMC many years ago: Marlene Dietrich : Shadows and Light. It's an excellent overview of her life narrated by Stephen Bach (who wrote a very good biography of Dietrich) and featuring candid comments by Dietrich's daughter Maria.

This is my favorite documentary of her, and I transferred it to DVD-R so I wouldn't have to worry about the tape quality any more.

I still have SHANGHAI EXPRESS on laserdisc to watch before I overdose on the lady, but I suspect I'll put in something totally different tomorrow, just for a change. Perhaps SPY GAME which I have watched before but got curious about seeing again.

Matt H, I am glad you agreed with me about THE BROKEN HEARTS CLUB.  I do have to disagree about the Zach Braff storyline, however.  I lost my dear beloved friend, Dean, to a heroin overdose under very similar circumstances.

I didn't say it wasn't realistic; just that something that serious and dramatic needed more development.

Nope.  it didn't happen, Ann.  At least, not this month.  I refuse to get my hopes up for next month.

I'm back from Grant's and an endless session of entering a whole cartload of corrections on a three-hundred page book.  We got it all done, though, so I'd say the book is ninety percent proofed, fixed, and done.  One more go-through should do it.
