Favorite political film - the original MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.  I refused to see the re-make.  Why monkey with perfection?

Looks like "somebody" stacked the deck:So 7 "friends" rating it a 10, an to the top you go!

Here's a "radical" thought...maybe, just maybe, since our film aired nationally on primetime PBS several times, screened at over 25 film festivals around the world and was on the Oscar short-list along with receiving 3 IDA nominations (the Oscar of the documentary world)  there were actually a few people in the country who *really* liked the film!

There are people all over the world who feel passionately about this song, and our film, and would be very likely to consider it a 10 based on the letters and emails we received. I'm not trying to toot my own horn; I just don't like being accused of "stacking the deck".

I believe Cillaliz now has a copy; maybe she'll vote for it, too!  ;)

TOD - The Candidate, All The President's Men

And back to the books for me -- today we have three - count'em - three tests... I turned in a less than brilliant paper yesterday, and still haven't finished a speech I have due on Thursday - but, hey, these are lower division required courses - and I need a C to pass. I think I can pull that out of my - ummm - hat!

I've had a couple of interesting synchronicities, predicted over the weekend, but amazing and gratifying, nevertheless. And I'm looking forward to a day off - first one since two Sundays ago - coming this Friday! The day after the day after tomorrow!!! huzzah!

Have a good one, gang!

PS - Bruce, I'm so happy you had a good read-through. What fun it will be! By-the-by - the singing coaching, should your little warbler still need help, can happen on Monday or Wednesday evenings...

Test vibes for DR PENNYO - aka She's Working Her Way Through College (a very funny Virginia Mayo movie, if you didn't know)

Beautiful photos, Mikey!

Thanks for the well-wishes, JRand. I'll do my best - which allows for short-term memory loss, and whatever effect my sixties do-it-yourself acid lobotomy may have had...

Hoyden.....I think the definition would be:  Betty Hutton.

TOD:

The Manchurian Candidate - 1962 (I watched the remake and it's okay, but it was changed to a more domestic problem than an international problem, and the dropped characters and lukewarm finale did the book no justice.)

All the Kings Men - original, probably won't see the remake

Syriana

Jarhead - although this might be considered more a "war" than a political movie

The Wind & the Lion - Brian Keith as Teddy Roosevelt

and State of the Union with Hepburn & Tracy.

Advise & Consent, of course.

Once you start naming them, it's hard to stop.

DR CP did you read THE 12 DAY MANHUNT FOR LINCOLN'S KILLER yet?

I like GOOD NIGHT & GOOD LUCK, but the documentary POINT OF ORDER is so well put together, that I favor it of the two.

Good morning!

It's a stunningly beautiful day here with totally blue skies and pleasant temps (so far). Supposed to get warmer and almost to 80 during the afternoon, but hopefully, the evening will be cool enough to airiate the house and get it back to a comfortable temperature.

Yes, so many wonderful political movies:

ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN
THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE
ADVISE & CONSENT
FAIL SAFE
NASTY HABITS
FAHRENHEIT 9/11

I've never seen NIXON all the way through, but the portions of it I've seen I've liked.

I have last night's OLD CHRISTINE and CSI: MIAMI to get to today, but I do want to watch BEYOND THE SEA this afternoon without fail (it's two hours, so I have to reserve the majority of the afternoon to it).

Since there is nothing on at 8 that I'm interested in, I may put CSI: MIAMI into that time slot.

An HBO political film I think was very well done was CITIZEN COHN, a gripping docudrama with James Woods as the scheming, egotistical Roy Cohn.

And the word of the day is: HOYDEN!
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry HOYDEN
And the all-girl band was jealous as all get-out!

"Here's your hair DYE, HON," said Edna, Baltimore's favorite drug store clerk, to Velma, Baltimore's favorite HOYDEN.

(And yes, Baltimorians really do use "hon" constantly as a term of casual endearment!)

(And no, they are not Baltimorons.  Well, not all of them, at least.)

My first encounter with the word "hoyden" was in one of the Tales of the City novels, where one of the characters hairstyle is called the "hoyden in a haystack" look.

One of the female characters.  Have to be specific, I guess.
