Ask BK day............

Assume it is around 1958, and you have come up to the area of Sunset Blvd. to Hollywood Blvd., and from Gower west to La Brea.  In that area, at which 3 places would you eat (it can be more than one meal) and at what 3 stores would you go in to look around and maybe buy something?

Piece o' cake:  I would eat at Coffee Dan's, Musso and Frank (pounded steak $.75), and C.C. Brown's.  I would stop in and browse Wallich's Music City, Pickwick Books, and Bert Wheeler's House of Magic.  Voila!  If I could add moviegoing to my day, I'd go to the Egyptian, the Paramount, the Chinese, and the Warner Cinerama.

For ask BK day:

What was the most postingest day ever, and why?

Easy - this year's Academy Awards - over 1200 posts - we always do well on AA nights, but this year we went NUTS!  You should go back and check it out.  Also, on the home page of this discussion board, toward the bottom you'll see something that says "more stats" (it's small) - click on that, and you can see all our stats since the board came into being.

My question for ask BK day:

When I travel down to Los Angeles for to see BRAIN FROM PLANET X, I plan on getting out and about quite a bit. Where are some really good places to buy CDs? The kind of places that have a large eclectic selection where I could find perhaps Bollywood soundtracks, Arabain pop music, 1960s J-pop, or even Tab Hunter's greates hits?

There's really only one store left, sadly - Amoeba, on Sunset one block west of Vine.

My first question for ASK BK day....what scene in a famous movie do you consider unnecessary and you would edit it out?  Or even trim a shot or two?

I've mentioned both these before: The Dead Zone - the scene with Mr. Sheen and his henchman and the newspaper guy - remove it and the revelation of Mr. Sheen's true personality works better.

The Boy Who Could Fly: The dream sequence where the girl goes to visit the boy in the hospital and the flying dream.  If we see him fly then, the power of when he actually does fly is lessened, and harmfully so.

I am afraid...

I'll just sit here quietly in the corner, revelling in my Godliness (cleanliness to be achieved later).

Afraid -ah, well you should! Those who believe the pen is mightier than the sword have never fought a duel.

I'm sure DR MattH would share the proof- copy of his long awaited tome: "Cleanliness Tips for Heavenly Mansions - Celestial Housekeeping For Dummies".

Who deleted a post and why is this site suddenly running so slowly?  I'm hesitant to write a note about it just yet because everything on the Internet seems a bit wonky this morning.

Well, that posted fast so maybe all is well or, conversely, maybe well is all.

I'm glad you mentioned that, DR FJL, because I was going to delete a few of my posts to free up more space---like the one with the big Bosch painting, and the duplicated ones of my brother. :-) (Sorry, guys!)

But it sounds like bk has someone who bats cleanup on this when the room gets overloaded, so maybe I will refrain from deleting.

I didn't delete any posts, but the first two times I tried to connect I got:" Too many connections". But there were only 3 other people listed as being on board!

They were probably doing their occasional little maintenence thing, which slows us down for a few minutes.  It seems to be fine now.

Every few weeks we do a photo purge, so no worries.

Thanks, DRs Matt and PennyO for letting me hitch a ride on your cloud!

BTW Matt, if you run out of places to clean at your house...ahem...

And we have an HD TV, too! Come on down!

I'll say - I was bumped off while reading a post and got the feared "too many connections" message.

Several boards I check in the morning are down - it's weird.  The Film Score Monthly board has been down for about twelve hours, actually.

Welcome to the heavens to NEW HHW God EDISAURUS.  Just remember we are a pleasant bunch here and have certain ways to solve disagreements.

Well, Medea is still having problems in the "Plays Well With Others" category.

Also, the Hebrew God of the Old Testament (J....,by name) is rumored to have anger management issues.

Is this a form of Editorial Bulemia?

I have written Ye Olde Note to our hosting facility - we were just down again, and that's one too many times this morning - at least they're now alerted to whatever is going on.  But, again, many boards are behaving strangely this morning.

My morning meeting just got pushed back by almost an hour - not good - too much to do and to little time to do it in.  I'll have to keep the meeting to under an hour, because I then have to do banking, pick up some toiletries, go to my mail place, deal with recording details and then have three afternoon meetings.  I'm going to try to pack some stuff now and then before the afternoon meetings, so that when I finally get home I won't have much to do but write the notes and go to bed by ten (am getting up at four-fifteen).

I wonder if FJL would be available to perform wake-up call duties at seven-fifteen his time?

Amoeba looks to be just a hop, skip, and a short drive from my hotel accommodations in Hollywood...so perhaps I will make that one of my first visiting destinations upon my arrival that Thursday afternoon. That and Little Tokyo perhaps.

I am so looking forward to my trip to LA in December! It is really one of my favorite places to go?

What are LA temps that time of year, normally?

I think it's a hoot that a brass candleholder was categorized as Troy Donahue's character's "integrity"!

My boarding pass is printed, and I've done the majority of the packing (well, all the packing except whatever toiletries I buy - just the travel-sized toothpaste and stuff) - so, that's one less thing to do this evening.  I do love short trips like this - in addition to what I'm wearing I just pack an additional pair of pants, a couple of shirts, a few pantaloons and socks, and voila!
