I've never even heard of a Malomar. I assume it's something chocolaty. (Best I not get started.)

FREEDOM RIVER is a wonderful short animated film narrated by Orson Welles - over 35 years old, it still has a message for today.

See it here on YouTube

DR CILLALIZ,
Regarding your unpleasant restaurant experiece, I quite sympathize. I used to travel a lot on business, sometimes alone, sometimes not, and SEVERAL times was in restaurants where they wouldn't even seat me. They DID seat a couple behind me in line, but refused to give a table to one person. I went to another restaurant, where waiter after waiter walked by, completely ignoring me, even though the restaurant was virtually empty. Since both of these experiences were in the same hotel, I took it up with one of the hotel managers before checking out. I don't get mad often, but I was livid. I asked if it was hotel policy to discriminate against women travelling alone.  (The hotel was hosting the conference I was attending.) He was quite taken aback and I don't think he was aware that this goes on. To his credit, he did try to correct some of the other problems I pointed out.

When I've related these incidents to friends they often don't believe me and think I got it wrong, but I know it DOES happen.  It's one of those things that you probably wouldn't believe if you didn't witness it yourself.

I'm sorry it happened to you. Perhaps one of us can think up a clever and funny way to deal with it next time.

Thanks Jeanne. I travel a lot, and have dined out solo for years.  I've had problems, but honestly not that often.  This was the most blatant I've seen in awhile.  I've complained in the past, but now I find it better to just calmly explain why I'm leaving and go.  Even if someone is directed to wait on my table it would no longer be a good experience for me.

I ended up at an impromptu party at Paul's house last night. It was fun. I was a little crazier than I've been in a while, but after a long week I think it was just what the doctor ordered.

IMHO, the best Julie Andrews has ever done as an actress is DUET FOR ONE, but then, it was so poorly released that few people ever saw that remarkable movie!

And because it was such a bust, I had time to stop and home, grab a bite to eat and change the cat litter.

In THAT order?! :D

Thank you, DERBRUCER,  for the education on Mallomars. I now feel culturally complete. (I had the feeling something was missing.)

DR Jeanne - I am quite likely to play Denver discs at times but rarely list what I'm really listening to here. (Unless I know I'll get a reaction from Rodzinski.  François - I doubt there really is a Vicki Lawrence Greatest hits on CD!
(I listed  the last three artists played on the radio before I posted).

The last CD I played through for my own enjoyment - rather than recording individual tracks for others, was Paul Anka's
"Rock Swings".

... we seat and dream? ;)

How's Norton doing? ;D

Ain't it a shame? I never saw Ethel or Judy in any thing except excerpts of their films!

Dame Julie? Ahh... that's a different matter and a horse of a different colour or.... whatever!

It's still cold out; I don't think it got to the 53 high that they forecast. Beautiful but very nippy.
