Yep, that's on the laserdisc too, DR td. It looks like glare from an overhead light catching the camera lens as it moves in for a tighter shot.

The flare on the laserdisc I saw came a few lines into the song. There was nothing right at the start of the number. I should have taken out the DVD and compared it, but I had another DVD in with the palce marked and didn't want to lose that marker.

It just struck me as odd, because the following frames also go a little soft and grainy before returning to a pristine condition. . .

Thanks for looking! ! ! ! ! !

That's what I thought, DRMATTH.

Yes, good scenes, MR BK.

I didn't know Tony Scotti was one of those SCOTTI BROTHERS, the label of Mr Leif Garrett and Vickie Sue Robinson!

And of course in the VOD script, Neely was originally to make an appearance on WHAT'S MY LINE wherein Gillian Girl Anne Welles was the guest panelist.....   Suddenly it turned into the Grammy Awards....  Wonder who had an attack of common sense?

Speaking of SCROOGE, I have never bought the cast recording of the Alan Menken A CHRISTMAS CAROL which is playing its last season at Madison Square Garden. Is this a score worth hearing?

Is it former 2nd string Mouseketeer Judy Harriett in SAY ONE FOR ME singing some Rock and Roll song?  It's on a few times in January, I will try to tape for US.   ;D

I couldn't watch it last night because it was on opposite THE NUTCRACKER.   :-[

It was Judy's version of "TALL PAUL" that attracted the bigwigs at Disney to the Sherman Brothers, who then gave the song to Annette and a recording career was born!  :D

Matt H: IMHO "A Christmas Carol" Menken/Ahrens is truly worth adding to your collection. It deserves to be better known.

Dear Reader MBarnum--Aren't you a little too young and dashing looking to be a great uncle?!?!  I remember all my great aunts and uncles being about a thousand years old when I was a kid.

Dear Reader Tomovoz--No, it is not called Boxing Day here in the U.S.  It is called Post-Christmas Sales and Clearance Day.  Some department stores here open as early as 6 a.m.  There is a store here in Pasadena well-known for it's Christmas merchandise and it's annual 50% off sale each December 26th.  They open at 5 a.m. and there will be a line around the block when they open.

Poor Judy! To think she could have had Annette's career and been on that surfboard with Frankie Avalon!

Ah, I see what you mean, DR td. I'll go back down and look for that, but if you don't hear from me again tonight, you'll know I didn't see that. Frankly, the laserdisc is a darker transfer and I really don't recall seeing anything like that, but I will look again. I didn't take the disc out of the player, so it'll be easy to spin it again.

An interesting article from tomorrow's New York Times on the state of the Broadway musical, its chief angle being the growing preponderance of productions that rely on previously composed music:

Now that I deleted my post, people will wonder what the hell you were talking about, Dear BK.  Maybe they'll chalk it up to your going overboard with the egg nog or something.

No, that red fringing is not on the laserdisc at all. But I'll take out my DVD tomorrow and look at that scene to see if it's on my copy.

Ah, but isn't the laserdisc roughly a 2:2 aspect ratio, rather than a proper 2.35:1?  Which would explain the fringe not being on the laserdisc, but on the dvd.

I rather like Nog Egg myself.  And isn't it interesting that one of the several errant and truant was perusing this board and didn't even bother to post Christmas wishes?  I'm afraid that when the time comes for some of these folks to finally want to post that we shall laugh and laugh when they make that attempt.  Oh, yes, we shall laugh and laugh and then we shall laugh some more.

Then again, I often see Debbie Reynolds doing a mediocre Julie Andrews impression:

Speaking of egg nog, which is a holiday fave of mine - Everything foodwise was closed today in the movie complex, and the offspring and I had rushed off to the movies without a proper meal. So between films I had an "Egg Nog Latte" at Starbucks. It was vomitously (there should be such a word) disgustingly sweet. Yuck.
On that note, I shall once more wish one and all the happiest of days and retire to bed with a book.
