DR Jay" I was discussing Malcom MacDowell yesterday. (As in "whatever happened to.."). I love the movie where he plays H G Wells. I look forward to seeing "The Company".

Speaking of dvds. . .
Congrats, BK ! ! ! You made the DVD Savant's List (sorta) in his "favored disc round-up" of 2003:

While I was innocently minding my own business at the movies (two movies) I was promoted to Head Tart. Is there a pension plan with this job, vacation pay, perks of any kind? If not, I respectfully decline.
As for Christmas presents, I didn't exactly clean up this year - got a few nice things for Hanukah, though. None of my European relatives sent anything - unusual - but it's possible they haven't got my new address.
I got some wonderful CD's from Mr. bk. - a different list from DR Pogue's - including Laurie Beecham's "No One is Alone" which I've been wanting for some time. I'm looking forward to listening to each in the weeks to come.
It's very wet around here. I live in a guest house next to a pool, which looks on the verge of flooding. Oh well, what care I...

Rainy, rainy, rainy (that is three rainys).  I wonder if Sue Raney likes rainy days (and Mondays, for that matter).

I'm now watching Valley of the Dolls and sitting by the fire (conveniently located in my fireplace).  Hopefully, we'll be hearing about more presents in the future, this evening, even though it is more fun to hear about presents in the present.

Yes, that may be true, but Dory and Andre Previn did NOT compose the song I mentioned. . .

I think I should watch my favorite grasshopper movie tonight - - it does NOT star Jacqueline Bisset.

That was very nice of the Savant to include me by name.  I've known the Savant for many years, although I haven't really seen or spoken to him since he cut a promotional video that David Wechter and I did for a poker club here in the southland - that was back in 1989 I think.

Though the role may not bring with it any of the items you mention, it does bring you considerable adulation and not a little jealousy on the part of your fellow Dear Readers.

So what movies did you see and what did you think?

I am full.  Stuffed.  Practically overflowing!

-Ewww, that's not the prettiest of pictures...

The feast was very good.  It didn't seem like we had as much food on the table as we have had for past "feasts", but we still ended up with a lot of leftovers - and everyone ate to their fill.  And the deep-fried turkey came out exceptionally well this time.  Even my father who gets particular about turkey - all those years in the food service industry - was surprised at how well it came out.  And my sister-in-law's tostones - twice fried green plantains - were wonderfully crunchy and delicious.

We got a nice round of pictures in, and I think that we even got a few shots with all the grandchildren looking at the camera at the same time and smiling.  Then came the Big Unwrapping.  My nephew, John Michael, offered to help everyone open their presents since he didn't think we knew how to open presents.  I got a very nice wool, zip-front pullover from my sister-in-law - we drew names this year between the "siblings".  And I got my annual bundle of socks from my parents - and this year they actually got all the boys nice socks.  That was really about it for gifts.  I'm at that "awkward" stage when it comes to gifts... and I'm no competition for the grandchildren.  No complaints.  I gave plenty of gifts to myself last year, and my whole New York trip in Janaury is basically one big gift to myself.  And as I mentioned before, it's been a very good year.  I have what I need right now.  -But the kids did clean up in high style!

There were plenty of sweets avaiable before, during and after the meal.  And for my dessert, I had a small bowl of Edy's Espresso Chip ice cream, and a mini Double Chocolate Bundt cake that the orchestra contractor gave me.  It was dee-lish - emphasis on "was".  I probably wasn't supposed to eat the who mini-cake at one seating, but, hey, it's Christmas!  <burp>

So, now that my food coma is starting to take hold... I bid you all adieu until later.

OH!  My one faux pas this Christmas was forgetting that it was also my niece's, Alexandra, birthday yesterday.  She was born on Christmas Eve five years ago - during an ice storm.  In any case, I've gotten so used to celebrating her birthday in September - well, having a birthday party for her in September - that I forgot that her real birthday is December 24.  Thankfully, no harm done, but I did it take me a few moments to figure out why my Mom had put up a Happy Birthday banner in addition to her Merry Christmas one in the living room.

Just came back from a visit and walk with Roller.  He is much better!  If he shows as much pep tomorrow as he did this evening, I am hopeful that he'll be able to come home.  Again, heartfelt thanks to all of you Dear Readers who have asked about him and/or sent positive vibes his way.

Glad to hear Roller is better!

Moving on to The Treasure of Sierra Madre now.  I do get sleepy when it's raining.

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS - perhaps I will watch it tonight on VHS.  Such a kick!

Dealing with a continuing computer problem - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

My daughter and I saw BIG FISH and SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE. I was really tired and actually fell asleep in the middle of BIG FISH. Missed about 15 minutes, I think. The end of the film was moving, but I wasn't blown away by the thing as a whole. But, for all I know, I slept through the brilliance. As for SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE. my daughter says it's "gross" to see "old people" making out. I don't even want to begin to go there.

Had a lovely Christmas day..went to my nephew and his wife's house. We played Trivial Pursuit and ate foodstuffs and opened presents...of course most of the presents were for my little grand-neice Taylor (who is the light of her Uncle Mike's life.....or Monkey Mike, as she calls me).

One of the neatest presents I got was from my mom. She sent all of us kids her autobiography. She had been taking a class on writing your life story and with the help of her computer she put together a nice book, with pictures, of her life from 1929 up to 1948. She is working on 1949 to the present, but won't let any of us read it until she is dead! So that means it must be juicy!! LOL!

I am now exhausted and may just need to settle down with my cat and watch a movie or two.

Hope all DRs everywhere had a wonderful day!

Well, back from another unexpectedly full day. After being invited to that lovely brunch this morning, I got home mid-afternoon only to be invited to a friend's house for dinner (shrimp on the barbee) and then a trip to look at Christmas lights. In all, a lovely evening, and one of the most wonderful holiday seasons I've spent in many a year. And the weather today was brisk and beautiful here. Sorry the West Coast got rain.

I have SORDID LIVES selected for viewing tomorrow. Then, probably KISS ME STUPID.

I have a question for the people who saw the RSC version of Oklahoma and who also bought the DVD release. I caught the last 45 minutes tonight on one of my local pbs stations. The editing between scenes sometimes seemed to be erratic. (I was wondering if this is where the pledge breaks must have been.) Are the scene transitions on the DVD just as jumpy as they were on the telecast version?
