Good morning/afternoon. Perhaps one of you can help me with a DVD player question. My DVD player has suddenly started to turn the image strange colors. it will be playing normally, then the colors will get dark and orange-y, then go back to normal, then suddenly get darker again. You get the picture (an orange one). Any suggestions as to what might be causing this and what controls I could fiddle with to remedy it?

DR Panni - I had that same issue with my DVD player a few months ago - wow, I guess that means I actually did watch some DVDs this year!  For me, it was a matter of making sure all the various electrical cords from all the various pieces of audio-video equipment were "organized".  Too many electrical fields were getting criss-crossed like the wires.  So, if you've just recently moved some stuff around, that may be it.  *I also found that my cable cable was the big culprit.

Hope this helps.. If not... Next DR...

Happy Boxing Day to Tom-Oz, and also to all the DRs here at HHW.

DR Jay --  any news yet about Roller today??  Please keep us informed.

DR Jason -- What a great Christmas you had....I sure wish I could have shared some of that food with you!!  I'm glad your Christmas "loot" turned out to be some really good stuff.

DR Panni --  About your quandry re: your DVD player... Even though DR Jose's suggestion sounds sensible and might work,  DR Kerry has a knack for knowing just where to hit a piece of electronic equipment, so as to make it work again.  Well, make it work again or stop working at all.....

He may make house calls........... :o

CD PLAYER:  The haunting NIGHT OF THE HUNTER album given to us for Christmas by Mr. Kimmel and which my wife is absolutely in love with...she's drooling over Ron Raines' voice and agog at Sally Mayes'.  It may get replaced later by THE UNSUNG BERLIN.

As for the DVD, we may try one of our American Film Theatre selections later in the day...I'm anxious to see LUTHER with Stacy Keach again.

Or if we can actually get enough energy up, we may go out and take in a movie on my WGA card for free.

DR MBarnum  --  I'm sorry you got stuck having to work today!  Which state dept. do you toil for??

As you mentioned Lillian Gish (in The Whales Of August) I thought I'd post one of my favorite pictures here for you.  Kerry and I got to spend several hours with her at a very small, private gathering here in Phoenix a number of years ago.  She and I were having a very interesting talk about silent movie music and scoring when this pic was taken.  She was extremely sweet-natured, interesting, and sharp as a tack mentally.

DRPANNI - I had a similar problem in which all my DVD's were suddenly in black and white....and indeed one of my cables had worked loose.  Check to see that all your connections are secure and that none of the wires are criss-crossed or wound around the other....those "fields" are sensitive!

Oh and DRMATTH was that YOU who posted the Judy Harriet picture last night?  I hadn't seen it for years.

And as for Judy having Annette's career - well Annette had a couple of advantages over Judy....LOL....if I remember correctly!

Thanks for the DVD Player advice DR JoseSPiano. You may be right - I just recently moved, so the wires are a bit awry. I'll climb back there and give it a try.
DR MusicGuy - I too have a talent for hitting things just right, so if the above doesn't work, I'm putting on my boxing gloves.

MusicGuy, I am soooooo envious! You actually got to sit and chat with Lillian Gish!!! How wonderful! I have always been so in awe of her. Her performances were always top notch whether in silents or soundies. She is truley a legend in my eyes and someone I would have so enjoyed sitting down and talking with about films or just about life.

I read her autobiography some years back and might have to dig that one out again.

And thanks so much for posting the photo!

Great news, DR Jay!  Does this mean that the American Veterinary Association will now have to official recognize "H/K Good Vibe Therapy" as a viable form of treatment?

-Hey, wasnt' Good Vibe Therapy in TFNM?

There is nothing interesting in the DVD player, or CD player, or anything right now.  That's because I'm doing something antiquated: I'm reading!

Specifically, I'm reading a book der Brucer found at a local bookstore that specializes in selling older books at discount prices.  The bookstore is called Atlantic Books; apparently they have lots of branches, or at least two branches here in Rehoboth.

The book is Vertigo: The Making of a Hitchcock Classic, by Dan Auiler.  Martin Scorsese wrote less than two pages for the book's forward, so he also gets his name on the dustjacket.  It's quite interesting, going into considerable detail on the genesis of the film, the screenplay, production, and post-production.  There's even a chapter on the restoration and re-release of the film, and an appendix on what the heck VistaVision was (as compared to CinemaScope).  And there's a few pages of color pictures, too!

DR Jay --   Your news about ROller is the best "day after Christmas" present I can imagine.  You have to give him a hug, snuggle, and kiss for each and every one of us here in H/K-land.  That should keep you both busy for awhile.

A nice posted picture of Roller would be appreciated by all, I'm sure.....(hint hint)   ;)

Yes, here we are on the day after Christmas.  I have taken my HHW tree down!

I thought the Tree was supposed to remain for 12 days (of Christmas) AFTER Christmas rather than before.

Wonderful news about "Roller" DR Jay. The best Boxing Day present.
Thanks MusicGuy: Boxing Day is well over now but it was most pleasant.
"TCB: Great smiles. Now to see the real ones.

My excuse for managing to put everything I wrote in the Quote Box is that it is "Boxing Day". (And it is not that at all here but it is 6.03 am Saturday)
