I mentioned some of the DVDs I got at the CHristmas party the other day, so I won't repeat those. I have also gotten gift cards for Borders, Amazon, and Best Buy. I have a few gifts here I haven't unwrapped yet and am waiting to unwrap later today.

And I have a present exchange dinner party on Wednesday night where other loot will be gathered, but I have no idea what the gifts will be. I know at least four DVDs since these guys asked for DVD lists, but what they'll select to give me, I have no clue.

Thanks to DR MBARNUM, I have also seen that television version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and enjoyed it very much.

For me the joy (in addition to the choreography) of Scrooge is seeing Old Scrooge and then seeing a young and EXTREMELY handsome Albert Finney as Young Scrooge.  There was certainly more a sense of a lost life for me in that comparison than in others when Old Scrooge was made to look younger OR another performer played Young Scrooge.

I read that about James Brown as well. Can't say that I was a fan at all, but I'm sorry he's gone.

I really hadn't even noticed the totals. I never look over there. What this tells me is that I have TOO much time on my hands!

Now, I must head downstairs and clean up for my movie outing. I'll be back this afternoon with a report on my thoughts.

TOD:  I see lots of wonderful gifts for me under the tree, but I don't know what they are yet!  I have to wait until my entire family gathers before I can tear off the wrappings.  And that won't be until after we eat dinner!  Agony!

I have to go and make my Whole Garlic Clove Dip.  Using Neufchatel this year, so I'm not sure how it's going to turn out.

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. The kids are still abed. It is not as much fun when there are no small children all excited. These big kids know there are few gifts this year.

I always enjoy looking out the window and seeing the new bikes and scooters whizzing by. The only children on our street now are the Vietnamese-Jewish children from next door, Mae-ling and Wae-ling Goldstein, so I doubt there will be any whizzing this year.

Am heading up to Tigard to meet my family at my nephew and his family's home for food and presents. Since I did not put up a Christmas tree this year I will snap and post a photo of theirs.

Good morning to all!  Merry Christmas!

We are also having a bad storm as I type this.  The Weather Bug is blinking and chirping.  I see we are under a tornado watch.

I have my chestnuts in the oven and I'm hoping that the power won't go out before they are done.  If I wink out it might be a bolt from the blue!

Well, my cold is back in full force.  I kinda guessed it last night when I woke and couldn't swallow.  It's full blown this morning.  I'm coughing like before, my nose and head feel stuffed.  Ugh.  The good news is that I already had a doctor appointment set for this Friday so if I can just hold out until then I should be ok.

I feel so sorry for all of the kids that got bikes and skate boards and baby buggies and such.  It's pouring down rain.  There's no way they could go out and try them.

It's also going to go down to 45 degrees tonight.  Note that we are at 76 as I type this.  That's quite a drop.

There goes the TV.  Sometimes I think I should switch to cable.  But the whole reason I switch FROM cable was because it went out every time it rained.

Thank you, DearReaderLaura.  I don't know why I can't seem to stay well these past couple of years.

The doctor said because of the surgery I had, my immune system is down but give me a break--it can't be that far down.

Yes, James "The Godfather of Soul" Brown died early this morning at an Atlanta hospital.

Don't know the particulars.  He lived in Augusta GA, which is only a 30-minute drive from here.

Every year, at the Imperial Theater in Augusta, there was a James Brown Toy Giveaway for the underprivileged.

I saw him on TV just a few days ago at the opening of the theater for this year's giveaway.  He looked a bit drawn and sounded tired, but he was in happy spirits.

I've crossed paths with Mr. Brown several times over the years in airports.  I was once seated across the aisle from William "Refrigerator" Perry on a flight to Atlanta from Columbia.  Perry was a star football player at Clemson University and a member of the great Chicago Bears football team of the 1980s that won the Super Bowl with Perry as a star defensive lineman.  Perry lives in Aiken and currently works as a brick mason, IIUC (that's internet lingo for "if I understand correctly").

Oh, yes...."here" is Johnston SC.

Many years ago when I was home for Christmas, the tragic news of the death of Butterfly McQueen marred the Christmas festivities in Augusta.  She died at her home in a fire.

I, for one, would LOVE to know the recipe for this...and what it is you dip into it.
