I'm still trying to figure out who it is who is going to show him a few things....the bodybuilder or the grandfather who played with Steve Reeves in a mariachi band in the 1940s and 50s.  Logic tells me one thing, but Mike's interest in Reeves leads me down another path.

I'm still quaking with fear over the image of Hercules in a mariachi band!

DerBrucer-thanks for the fun photos.

Jeanne-I don’t remember that house in Culver City.  I checked with Keith & he doesn’t either.  Now I’m very curious, sure would have like to see it.

Imagine how liberal Californians feel about their governor.

I included a link in my response to her first post on this house.  I think it's the one they call the Witch's House.  It used to be in Culver City, but was moved to Beverly Hills, according to the link.

OTOH, it may not be the house she was talking about at all.

The school board's stance sounds reasonable to me.  Opposing viewpoints should be offered, if only to expose the students to the practice of critical thinking.  The news article doesn't suggest that the school board doesn't want the film shown at all, end of discussion - just that two sides of the issue should be given.

A two sides requirement is certainly justifiable....but to argue this, they pit Al Gore's, supported by science/scientists/climatologists...against John Stossel's?

If John Stossel is their ace in the hole, there's more to worry about there than a balanced view of something that is definitely happening whether conservatives want to admit it or not.

I think they made themselves laughably ludicrous by citing John Stossel.

That's sort of like using Michael Medved as a barometer for what constitutes great filmmaking.

That is disappointing that MEDIUM was a repeat. I didn't get a chance to watch it last night. So reading about it here is the first i've heard that it is a repeat.

I only got home at 9pm and it was already over (it airs here at 8pm also). So i was wondering if we got the new show. But alas NBC must have planned this because we got a repeat too! :(

The Witch’s House looks familiar now.

One year while walking around Westwood I met a man who lived in a charming fairytale sort of house.  I was delighted to be invited in and given a tour of the house.  He was very nice, wish I could remember his name.  I think he wrote scripts for TV shows, whatever it was, I remember I was familiar with some of his work.

This was during the time when I was in LA coping with my father’s last weeks in the hospital & my, very difficult, sister.  My walks were my salvation & meeting this gentleman truly brightened my day.

I would hate to think what kind of film you would use to balance AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.  And, since the School Board members have never seen Mr. Gore's film, how can they decide what film would balance it?

To be fair, I've heard some very strange things being said about Arnold as governor of California lately.  Conservative columnists and radio show personalities are actually beginning to say nice things -- approving things -- of his recent turnaround (after a major defeat at the polls last spring for one of his initiatives).  He is being looked at, more and more, as a centrist.

Possibly a special Fox news report -- "Why Global Warming Won't get Gore on the 2008 Ticket" -- by Bill O'Reilly?

Or some Pat Robertson analysis of the world situation that discredits global warming and instead attributes it to the wrath of God?

Sorry to be so political this morning.

I'm generally noncomittal on such things.

But....I think it was the use of "John Stossel" as a potentially credible source to refute global warming that did me in.

TIVO didn't record MEDIUM last night, so I guess they had a reasonable amount of time to register the show was a rerun, & not to record it.  All our regular shows with season passes are set to only record first airings.
