DAMN THE TORPEDOES, FULL SPEED AHEAD
« on: January 30, 2007, 12:10:09 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were full speed ahead, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're just sitting there like so much fish since they have no clew what full speed ahead means.

For me, it's any higher or even lower math.  My brain simply does not function that way.

I had a math problem until I discoverd the secret to it, then it became easy for me, but I still get lazy and complain about it.

My Chic Chick card of the night had to do with when to break off a friendship/ job/ habit.

When something is detracting from your life more than it's adding too it- it is time to call it quits.

So True!!!!!! This was a lesson I have had to learn recently, as i have always had a problem with letting go or admiting a thing wasn't good for me anymore. Especially with video games.

Pleased you enjoyed "The Butterfly". We caught up with Studio Ghibli's "Whisper of The Heart" last night.  Another gem of a movie.

As for the Topic of the Day...

In college: Calculus - I had tested it into the class, so... However, after two attempts, I finally switched back to Algebra to fulfill my math requirement.

Out of college: Programming an E-mu 5000 Ultra Sampler.  It was a pretty powerful piece of computer-music equipment.  Powerful and complicated.

In college: Logic, and second species counterpoint. (Never did do well at logic...)

Out of college: Linear editing was something I never mastered. I went straight from film to AVID with a short and very miserable period of non-linear.

The D-Vision editing system: This was an early, cheap non-linear system. Showtime bought a bunch of them for a series I worked on. They were horrible! They hired someone to teach me the system but it was futile. I had already been working on the AVID system, which is very intuitive and I could not make any sense out of how this system worked. They had budgeted a 4 week edit. I told them that if they rented an AVID for me, I could do it in two. I ended up doing it in 10 days. They wanted me to stay in LA and continue on with the series but at that point I was ready to just get home. (My car had been broken into and a lot of my stuff was stolen, including my camera and plane ticket...it was not a fun trip.)

And where is the D-Vision NOW??? AVID (and Final Cut) OWN the market!

Good morning, all!  I have a 9 AM meeting in Toyland, and after that the NYPL.  Beyond that, God alone knows.  I do know that before the day is over I have to schedule a complete physical exam with my doctor and update the prescription I tried to fill yesterday.

TOD:  lines.  when I was acting, I did two Ionesco one-acts, MAID TO MARRY and THE BALD SOPRANO.  Every line was a non-sequitur, especially the first one and the second had that whole crazy Bobby Watson exchange.  I thought I would never memorize the damned things and remember the cues as well.  I'm much better with a piece of music.

Mornin' Lar.

TOD: Easy, math beyond standard division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. I just didn't get and I still don't. I have no desire to "get it" either.

That's it for now.
