I watched two movies this afternoon.
I began with Paul Newman in THE LEFT HANDED GUN. I know the film wasn't well received, buit oh, boy, does it have its wonderful moments. I can imagine Newman becoming a major heartthrob after this film. He's not all that attractive playing a pug in SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME (great performance, but his manner and look isn't as a glamor boy as it shouldn't have been), but in this, he's a walking, talking wet dream, a very charismatic performance.
What an erratic transfer! My heart was wounded as the film first started and there were all these water marks and a blurred picture. As the film continued, many scenes were sharp and clear and spot free, but then we'd get a long shot that looked like a second or third generation dub and then we'd be back to sharp again. There were some pretty noticeable black scratches later in the film, too. This was the best print Warners could find?
