ProfessorBainbridge

Quote
Everything is Political; or Why the Boston Hoax Story is about the Triumph of Capitalism

On a serious note, this episode reflects the triumph of capitalism. These two yahoos look exactly like the sort of neo-hippie/anarchists that trashed Seattle back in 1999 and still engage in various forms of counter-culture street theater to this day. Yet, these guys do so not to advance a cause, but to make money advertising a stupid cartoon show on behalf of a major media corporation. The message these two thus are sending to all their counter-culture buddies on behalf of capitalist corporations is: "resistance is futile." As such, in an odd way, these guys validate my life's work: They confirm that corporations rule the world and are therefore a worthy subject of study.

Thanks, Matt H., Der Brucer, and Michael B.

I was surprised to find a share a birthday with such a cultural icon (Pebbles Flintstone, that is).

When we received a certain calendar from a certain someone we found out that Gromit's birthday is the same as Abraham Lincoln's and our own (actually Ant's mother Rose) little MacGregor out on Long Island

Last night I dreamed I was at Manderley.  And what odd dreams they were - one had me running into my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim and telling him about the screening last night (I think this stems from the fact that unless my eyes deceived me, Stefanie Powers' boyfriend was played by Harvey Evans).

That Evil Dead e-mail is pathetic.  It's the new trend, however - shows announce a closing, do that sort of thing, then pull out a few more losing weeks saying "it's a miracle" and "the public wants us to stay."  In the end, they lose more money.

Boston's Mayor was heard uttering something about Ted Turner's head on a platter.

Ted Turner has very little, if anything to do with it, apart from still having his name on the c ompany.

Maybe Ron P. can cross the bridge for an educational tour:

Woo at the Zoo

Quote
How different animals do the deed has probably fascinated you ever since you learned about, well, the birds and the bees. Endless curiosity about animal kingdom kinkiness has made the San Francisco Zoo's annual Woo at the Zoo (formerly known as the Sex Tour) into an immensely popular and much copied Valentine's Day tradition each February.

Jane Tollini, the zoo's penguin keeper, first developed the idea when she noticed that the penguins seemed to get especially amorous around February. So, she decorated their pool with paper hearts, threw on some mood music and invited a select group of friends and colleagues to watch the show. That concept has since been expanded into a three-hour event that includes a private tour aboard the zoo tram, an indoor presentation with up-close animal encounters, and catered refreshments with champagne, chocolates, strawberries, sushi and a "risotto bar."

I could use some office space vibes.  I have found the office I want and am waiting to see if the owner of the building will hold it for me with a deposit. The agent who showed me the office seemed to think he would do it. It's in my favorite building in town....a building I have been talking about lately...

Fabulous! MEGAVIBES!!!!! Being a free agent myself, I can appreciate some of what you're going through. Go, Cilla!

In the end, they lose more money.

After a four month run, are you sure they are losing money?

They are doing something similar with the "Friends of the Strand" theatre, along the lines of the "Save the Fox" campaign years ago. They are giving a March 1st deadline and throwing around the words "Wrecking ball" when there is no such threat. They think by lying to the public it will get them off their a** to donate. A pretty lame tactic that some people are beginning to see through.

If you're lucky, they'll get picked-up under the Patriot Act and be held incommunicado - then you get your "opportunity".

ProfessorBainbridgeder Brucer

That's a great quote!

The whole thing is so stupid. If the Boston police hadn't investigated it, people would be up in arms. The CN is stupid for pulling a stunt like that. Sure, they are getting publicity, but what a stupid way to go about doing it. These earthlings are STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!
