The Grandlads parents (and the neighbors) take a very dim view of my attempts at "native plants" - they think a front yard in the woods should look like a green at Pebble Beach. There were many complaints because I let the wild blackberries grow. The idea is to use as much fertilizer as possible and water frequently so the chemicals can wash into the protected marshland behind the house - get enough poisons in the creek and maybe we'll be rid of those pesky herons.

The City I live in has been sending the Yard Police around. I got a notice for the native senna growing in my yard last fall.  They like things to be manicured and shaped so as not to look natural.

Morning, all!

I wussburgered very early last night.  Just catching up on all the posts.

DR Edisaurus - LOVE the art work!
DR Jane - yea! for good news about your mother-in-law, vibes for continuing recovery.
DR Sandra - LOL re: the oatmeal
DR Laura - Congratulations on your new grand piano! [I love a piano.]

Oh...and searching on "BK" in YouTube produces a clip of Jodi Benson and a clip of Judy Kaye, but none of BK himself.

A brisk half hour walk with Zach in the bracing 13° weather to sniff the day's petrichor, and we're off...

TOD:

DVD player: The Skin of Our Teeth [Broadway Theatre Archive];
queued: An Inconvenient Truth, The Clock [Garland], and The Ten Commandments: The Musical, with Val Kilmer[?!]

CD player:
home: Cloudburst: The Choral Music of Eric Whitacre
car:  the new Broadway cast of Company

Smooches, kids!

Good morning on this too early morning!  For some reason, I woke up earlier than I had to, so I figured I might as well do a little sorting and putting away of some stuff.I'm sure that the Esteemed Poobah is very sensibly still in the arms of Morpheus, so I won't rattle the china or play loud music yet.

Dino ! ...... keep it down over there !

Good morning, all!  Our office has to move ASAP, so this morning, I am looking at real estate.  After that I have an afternoon with ONCE UPON A MATTRESS.  Yesterday, I spent a lovely 90 minutes or so visiting tete a tetewith a friend from MySpace, who's been an email buddy for the past 3 months.  It was a great time catching up on what he's seen this week surng his NYC visit, mutual friends, etc.

My weekend plans include work on Toyland, finishing the symphonic parts for Liz Callaway, and p'raps catching up on my DVD backlog.

TOD:
CD:  Debbie Gravitte, The Brain from Planet X, The Firefly (Ohio Light Opera)
DVD:  3 Netflix films that have been lying here for two weeks - I don't even remember what they are!

Interesting LOST tidbit arrived in the ABC weekly email.

I don't usually read this stuff.

It is very vague. But quite interesting.

It says, "claire's connection to another survivor comes to light".
Hmmm i am very curious who this could be.

Btw, did anybody laugh when those two new people were standing around the ping pong table and sawyer turned to one of them and said, "who the hell are you?" :)

She is probably Jack's half sister.

I LOVED Bic Bananas!!!  The colors were so vivid and bright.  Unfortunately, they dried out very quickly.

Check of the Media:

iPod:  America -- HERE AND NOW.  To be followed by SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM (OLC) and then GOODTIME CHARLEY.

Tivo:  I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING and LADIES IN RETIREMENT from TCM last night.

VCR:  Same as DR Singdaw--the American Playhouse presentation of THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH (to be transferred to DVD and sent to another DR for convincing purposes.)

Speaking of Tivo, they've formed a partnership with Amazon in which subscribers can rent or purchase certain digital recordings at Amazon which will then be downloaded directly to their Tivo units.  Right now, the selection is not yet open to all that Amazon sells, but it promises to grow.  And while the rental idea seems okay, I'm not crazy about the "purchase" option:  it seems that anything you buy can be burned to a DVD, but that DVD will be playable only on the device on which it was created.  I'm not yet sure what the advantage of buying a digital recording through this program would be.  But I'm going to shop through their listing this morning and rent something for tonight and see how that part of it works.

Good morning!

A few more clouds in the sky this morning but otherwise very nice and another early spring day for us. We may have some showers tonight, but right now, there's plenty of blue sky.

Hey can anyone who knows tell me if GHOST WHISPERER and CLOSE TO HOME are repeats tonight. My tv guide has GW as a repeat and CTH as new.

Your information is correct. GHOST WHISPERER is a repeat and CLOSE TO HOME is a new episode.

I think I already know the connection, but I'll be waiting to see if I'm right. Won't say anything now to avoid spoiling a surprise for anyone else if I'm right.

Of course I laughed! I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing!

I also laughed at Sawyer's decidedly un-PC nicknames of "Zorro" and "Avalanche" and "Crouching Tiger - Hidden Dragon" on various islanders. I love him!

DR MBARNUM,
I asked my LA Man About Town about Armenian restaurants, and this is what he said, should you need any more recommendations:

The place for Armenian food is Glendale, which now has a large minority (approaching majority) Armenian population.  The place I frequent is Carousel, 304 N. Brand (Brand is the main drag of Glendale, a fun strolling street).  Mid-priced, even lower-mid, for very good dinners with lots of food.  Go early for small party dining on the front patio.  Go after about 8:30 (at least on the week-ends), if you can get in, for belly-dancing and ten to twenty parties of a dozen or more people at a table, all from one family, having a family feast.  Middle east partying at its best.

A slightly more expensive place, similar to above re early/late dining, is
Mandaloun, 141 S. Maryland Street @ Harvard, also in Glendale.  I've not been there, but it is well regarded, and may even rock more heavily late at night.

Hope you find someplace you enjoy.

Of course, I was disapppointed more in SUndance's performances on the show. Of his three semifinal rounds, I really only thought he did well in the second week. The first and third weeks were weak, often off pitch and this week in particular, he seemed rather desperate.

Of course, his skills are herculean compared to Sanjaya's, but obviously the public is voting there for something other than singing talent or on-stage charisma.

Haley won't stay around long, but I can't be too upset with her selection for the Top 12 since she's the closest we're going to get to a musical theater singer this season. And as there is a glut of R&B singers in the top 12 this year, I don't mind her in the mix at all just for diversity.

Melinda is my favorite, of course, but Jordin has risen to be my second favorite during the semifinal rounds.
