TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS
« on: March 20, 2007, 01:27:37 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bull and had horns, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off taking the bull by the horns, which is not so easy for a cow.

First movies that came to mind were

Eating Raoul
Shaun Of The Dead.
Welcome To Woop Woop

From TV:
The League Of Gentlemen
Little Britain
The Young Ones
Arrested Development
Absolutely Fabulous

I had difficulty with these at first viewing:
Cruising
A Clockwork Orange.

I could not watch much of:
"Caligula".  Envelope was pushed way too far for me!

TOD....

One of mine has to do with a childhood memory. My grandfather liked british comedies and the local public telly station had one on called "RISE AND FALL OF REGINALD PERRIN" when i was about 12 years old and I did not think anything of it and thought it was normal for men to run butt naked on an English beach. However, my grandmother was horrified and admonished my grandfather for showing  me porn!

I also remember when ARE YOU BEING SERVED? was first broadcasted here and some of the more conservative people in the area were offended by the character of Mr. Humphries. I saw nothing offensive about him but the whole show took a bit of getting used to for some of the innuendos were quite forward. To this day it is one of my favorite shows.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS -- anyone know if show is on DVD?

One britcom did bother me a bit and that was HOT METAL.

There have a been a few storylines in the past on some of the soaps that have pushed the envelope a bit. ONE LIFE TO LIVE and GENERAL HOSPITAL both had gay and AIDS storylines that were well done and a really pushed the thinking of many. SEARCH FOR TOMORROW had a rape storyline that literally put the viewer in the room where it was happening.

I am also not a fan of American telly comedies and some of the more recent ones bore me to tears.  Love many of the classic ones from the 80s and early 90s.

Many of the reality shows bug me to no end such as JACKASS and PUNK"D. I find them offensive and crude. I have a few other words for them but they would not be gentile.

Movies....
Weekend at Bernies.... a very crude movie and I still cannot watch it in its entireity.
Clockwork Orange

Eating Raoul (taht was a hoot)

Those are the ones I can think of right now. Hopefully others will trigger my memories others...

As some of you know about my inate hatred for the writer that was at days for awhile and he also wrote the other NBC show that shall remain nameless...

Some had way too muchfun with the clips... It actually makes a horrid storyline almost fun to watch....

Ironic, Matt just did this musical....

Good morning, all!  DR Jose, did you see DR edi's NYC dates?

I have a mild day, depending what happens at Toyland today.  I'm meeting DR Ben's Anthony there at some point this morning, I hope to get an office search update, and depending on that, I will begin packing up the office or head up to the NYPL Music Division.  I prefer the Music Division: I have some questions that need answering, and I hope looking at some editions will help me out.

First, however, a date with the post office.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only one that comes to mind right now is Larry Clark's "Kids".  Yes, it pushed the envelope to an extent, but sadly it showed it some "real" events.  And watching the sex scenes in that movie truly was uncomfortable and disturbing.

Well, time for me to get some things organized around here before I head out, but I'll be back before I head down to Chelsea Studios.

*I realized yesterday, that with the way my current gigs lined up and, in some cases, overlapped, I'm working three weeks in a row with no day off.  And all but one of those days is at Chelsea Studios!

The only movie that I can think of that would fall in that category would be:

Ilsa The She Wolf Of The SS.

Don;t ask. I was young and foolish. I was 16 the film was rated 18 years and over. I looked older so I got in. They should have asked for my ID

And back to the Topic of the Day...

These films didn't really push the envelope, but first saw these movies - in their original, uncensored and un-"bleeped" form - while in high school.  During high school classes.  At a Catholic High School.  With a nun and/or priest in the room...

The Zeffirelli "Romeo and Juliet" (AP English)
"Ordinary People" (Social Studies)
"Apocalypse Now" (AP English since it was a modern day "Heart of Darkness")

Well, I guess my teachers - and the school - pushed the envelope at that time.  And considering that those movies were starting to be banned from the public schools in the area... -Heck, we even read D.H. Lawrence in my Junior year AP English class.
