As for the Topic of the Day...

Hmm... I think I remember being in charge of either my high school's Thespian Society, or maybe even the high school literary magazine, "Largesse".  Or maybe I wasn't?

-I'll leave it at that for now.

DR Cason - As bk suggested, stop calling.  It's amazing how being seen of as "eager" can change to "desperate" in the blink of a (phone) ring.

Take the "advice" from the show... Let it go.  Otherwise, you just start playing too many head games with yourself.  You know you gave a great audition, and a great callback.  They acknowledged your performance at the initial audition and callback.  Be happy with that.  Whether or not you get another phone call doesn't diminish how you've done up to now.

 "Largesse".  Or maybe I wasn't?

Are you sure that was the correct spelling?

Good morning, all!  After yesterday's very early rising, I slept late today.  I have estate business and then a trek to NYPL to look at the Rossini Critical Edition.

Oh, I have to look for a remote control.  What's frustrating is that my apartment is small and things generally don't venture from ther usual areas.  I may carry something from one spot to another but it's usually found by retracing my steps.  A few years ago I bought a new remote for my tv and then found the old one, so I won't be buying a new remote until I know the other one's not around somewhere.  I hope I didn't accidentally toss it.

DR Cason, Dear Friend BK is correct: get off the phone, go to another audition.  I think the less you care about THE FULL MONTY, the better your chances on getting it.  If this is the only audition in the past two weeks for you, you're doing something wrong.  You're too talented.

Largeass?  Wasn't that from THE SIMPSONS?  "Has anyone seen my Largeass?"

Or was that "Hugh Jass?"

I must say that I have enjoyed the lovely David Shire CD!

I like all of the tracks, but my favorite is "Something for Joey."  I am happy I bought this cd even though I didn't know much about it.....as it were....being from Indiana and all....

I went to college with Seth Rudetsky.  Well - I know who he was.  I don't think he knew who I was.  Robert Spano, who now conducts the Atlanta Symphony, was there with us as well.

And speaking of Atlanta - DR Edisaurus, I am very sorry that my gigs will prevent me from meeting you and your DH in person this coming weekend.

TOD - several boards and organizations.

I have found that MOST boards to their detriment are run by one or two people who completely take over and re-make an organization in their own image.....and while this can sometimes SAVE an organization (see today's notes) - it more often drives it into the ground.

I am on the Board of Directors of Putnam County Playhouse and have been since 1982.  It has been the best and worst thing I have done.  There are a couple of people who are impossible to deal with and who will never change, but because they have been around a LONG time, no one will deal with them or get rid of them (of course the same could be said of me),

The property has two structures, the larger barn Theatre and a smaller barn.  For two seasons while we were renovating the Big Barn for the theatre space, we did shows on an outdoor stage beside the Little Barn.  Inside the Little Barn were the makeup room and dressing areas and some storage.

When we moved to the Big Barn the dressing rooms stayed in the Little Barn....a short trek away - through rain and mud on wet days.

In the early 1990's when we added onto the Big Barn, I suggested we put dressing rooms/makeup there and use the small barn for the shop.  There was loud opposition from the Shop Person who said she wasn't about the carry all of her work across the lawn to the barn.  She prevailed.

We are now building an additional dressing room/makeup/rehearsal space....but guess what....the shop is still between the dressing rooms and the stage, so guess where the actors AND their props will be.  And guess who will be griping the same way she has for over 25 years?

In what logic do you put the SHOP next to the stage and the dressing rooms further away?  And this is just to please one person.

See....go serve on a non-profit board, it will make you feel good about the rest of your life.

One student offers:  Come Moishel, let's climb over de fence, but don't get your ess cort.

Good morning!

Pretty day and back into the 80s today and tomorrow. Then, it's supposed to get cool for a couple of days. Back and forth - typical of early spring around here.

TOD: Do you have a while?  Most recently I was on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for 6 years. I chaired their Indigent Defense Committee for 2 or 3 years, I created the Champion of Indigent Defense Award and chaired the committee that awarded that.   Let's see. I was the Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association Criminal Law Section and created and co-chaired the Indigent Defense Task Force. I was President of the Spirit Lake Mainsail (Chamber of Commerce) and was on the Board of the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce. I was on the Iowa Sentencing Commission. That's just the past 10 years or so...there were many more before that and of course the service organizations like Kiwanis.

Right now, I'm not on any boards etc.  After my term expired on the NACDL Board, I was up for a break. I'm sure I'll get active again once I have my own business, it is a great way to get your name out there.

When my first relationship broke up after almost eight years, I went back into doing community theater in a big way, and the theater where I worked the most invited me to jooin their volunteer organziation called First Nighters. This group sold concessions, ushered, planned projects to raise money for the theater, assisted at auditions. So, I spent almost all my free time at the theater, and after a year or so, I was elected secretary, a position I retained for about six years. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it.

However, as I started doing more shows away from that theater, I didn't have as much time to lend a hand there, so I had to resign. Would you believe since I left First Nighters, I have never been cast in a single show at that theater.

DR FJL -

Sorry; didn't get to Starfighter yet.  I had a rehearsal all night last night, and tonight too.  But it is next on my list to listen to, after Brain!  Sounds like DR Edisaurus likes what she's heard of it so far.

I agree completely with bk and DR Elmore about not calling the theater any more, DR Cason. You've done eveything you can do. Let it be and get on with other things.
