AMERICAN IDOL tonight:
I thought once again Melinda was in a class by herself, mainly because she OWNS the stage when she's performing. Her voice is solid, but her gestures, her movement, her presentation is just so interesting and true. She never makes a misstep.
My second favorite vocal of the night was Gina. She was my least favorite female singer last week, but I liked her voice very much tonight.
LaKisha's was my third favorite vocal although, as I've been saying, she has zero presentation. Her voice is very strong, and she's always solid on the vocals, but her face is immobile, and there's no joy in her performance.
Jordin's song choice was poor. The low notes were too low for her, and the rest was chanting rather than singing. Blah!
I didn't think any of the men sold themselves well tonight. Blake and Chris Richardson had okay renditions. Chris Sligh was indeed ahead of the music thus making his vocal kind of inconsequential. Phil had some pitch problems early (but he does have power when he uses it; I'd love to see him sing a song full out one time.)
As always, Sanjaya brought up the rear. The hair was absurd, the vocal erractic at best, and he was cocky with the judges. I'd like to see THAT do him in. Sad to say, I don't think it will, at least not yet.
If I had to guess who the bottom two will be, I'd say Haley and Phil.
