I've just been reading some reviews from a few productions of Voir Dire and, I'm happy to say, they all agree with me about the play.  What's fascinating is that the male character (played last night by Benjamin Clark) is, in all these reviews, positioned to be the villain of the piece by the playwright, and yet, as I said last night, he comes off as the only reasonable one in the group - not a bully (even though everyone calls him that, he's neither written nor played that way, at least in these three or four productions).  They all basically feel that it's an "issue" play rather than a play that is about human beings.  Also, according to these reviews, one of the characters sounds really interesting, but it certainly was not played that way at LACC - either the director or the actress apparently didn't "get" this character.   They also felt the play was way too long for its own good.

But it's had a bit of popularity on the regional circuit and in colleges.  It figures.  As to it being a Pulitzer nominee, well, c'mon - and how many Pulitzer Prize-winning plays have not played on Broadway at all?

So.....are the English words we see as the names of the Japanese performers in the movies the actual translations of the Japanese words, or are they English phonetic approximations of the Japanese names?

Time to go outside and check on things. It was over 90 degrees today. That's way too hot for April.  It's too hot for me any time

How I missed page 5 I have no idea.  And to miss the story of the natural therapy dog would have been a shame.

I have been on a “roll” today.  This afternoon I ordered my water without water, instead of ice.

I'm roasting a picnic shoulder of pork tonight.

And saurkraut.

And applesauce.

And mashed potatoes.

With gravy.

I wish I had a day off real soon.

Instead, I've a cashiering day tomorrow, followed by two wrangling days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Off on Thursday.

It's coming.

*Le sigh.*

Good evening to dear, fixed, proofed, and otherwise-unaltered and studly BK --

I'm now up at my hotel in the Allentown area of PA... I have a couple days business seminar here.  But I had a hell of a time at my hotel
in Philly.  It said it had "free wireless internet," but it would drop out, then re-connect, then drop out.... etc.

It was most maddening!!

For dear DR Naomi --   Yes, my friend Peter Conte is indeed the Grand Court Organist at the wonderful old Wanamaker building in Philadelphia (now Macy's).  And yes, I did play one piece on a small program there yesterday.

DR MusicGuy - that is way cool!   8)

I heard that organ at an AGO [American Guild of Organists] convention on July 4th several years back.  It is glorious!  And the console is...imposing. [!]

I think tonight will be a fairly early evening for me.  I have a long day of seminar talks, discussions, etc., tomorrow, and I have to make one small presentation myself.

This kind of stuff was a lot easier 10 years ago !

Yes, that is one of the most towering and monumental musical instruments ever created.  And it is, indeed, the largest playing pipe organ in the world today.

And Peter Conte is as warm, generous, and good-hearted as he is brilliantly talented.
