The shower was fun.  No silly bridal shower games, just food - two different egg casseroles that were very tasty - a braided loaf thing I didn't try, lots of fruit and a drink that has Five Alive, Orange Juice and a bottle of peach schnapps in it.
This reminds me of a conversation that I overheard at work.

"Hey, Gina, how was the shower?"

"It was refreshing."

"Did you play any games?"

"We did the Diaper Game."

Now, at this point of the conversation I didn't realize they were talking about a baby shower.  And Gina and her other half, Joe, are both heads of departments at the store (she the flower shop, he general grocery), and very much in love.  Now, if you take this as a conversation about a real shower, this starts to sound like too much information!

I'm still trying to get the image of Joe in a diaper out of my head.  Nice guy, but a major pot belly.   :o

I had a wonderful dinner with DRs Jose and singdaw at Cafe Edgar.  I'm sorry you weren't with us, DR FJL.  I very much enjoyed making DR singdaw's acquaintance, and I hope he'll come in more often and hang out with us.  Tales were told and reputations bruised and battered.  Dr Jose was his always delightful self, and I was, as always, the paragon of deportment.

Was there nothing that could be blamed on DR Jose?

Our DVD of Jeff Wayne's musical version of "War of the Worlds" arrived today.  DP Colin is very happy.

I've got way too much to catch up on here.

Friday and Saturday were major shopping days, with lines at the registers, something we try to avoid.  We try to have the staffing so that a customer will only have to wait for the person in front of them to get checked out, but when all registers are running and the people keep queing up to leave, there's little we can do to change the situation.

Then, after my Saturday shift, der Grampa and I headed to the Eastern Shore to pick up the Grandlads, to get them out of Magic Mommy and Magic Daddy's hair for a few hours.  The plan was to pick up the lads by three-thirty, so we could go to the bookstore, the movie theater, and dinner, then meet MM and MD at their camping trailer here in Rehoboth.

What went awry was that a ditzy aunt of the Grandlads had decided to take them fishing.  Yes, she had been told that they had to be back by three, but she lost track of the time and then decided it didn't matter, they were all having fun.

She didn't get the lads back until four-thirty.

The cascade had started.

It took the lads an hour to get ready to leave with us, what with showers (they had swum in the lake) and changing clothes and arguing with Magic Daddy about how much money they could take in their wallets, which led to a meltdown on the part of William the Younger.  So we left maybe two hours behind schedule.

First, the bookstore, an abbreviated visit.  The good news was that William, who is having trouble reading, found a book that he read aloud to der Grampa with little prompting.  That book is now William's.

Second, the movie theater, for Shrek the Third.  The next showing of the film was sold out, so we had another half-hour to our schedule added.  (The film is not a disaster, but the series had better end with this one.)

We didn't get out of the theater until nine-thirty.  Add another fifteen minutes to get to the steakhouse for dinner, and it's getting very late for the two lads.  They enjoyed our dinner together, however, and their manners are improving.  Onwards then to Rehoboth - a good ninety minutes drive.

That's the catch with living here in Delaware - going from one place to another can mean driving for a while.  The grandlads slept in the back while der Grampa drove and I rode shotgun.  We returned the lads to their Magic Parents at about twelve-thirty.

I usually set my alarm clock three hours ahead of when I have to be at work the next day.  I realized this wasn't going to work for me this time, and cut my prep time by an hour, so I could be at work by eight.

I made it through work just fine, somehow.  But when I got home, it was nap time.

And that is why I've been E&T.

One incident at work today - Magic Mommy, Magic Daddy and William the Younger came in to shop!  All last year, when they had the trailer at the summer campground, they never came in.  This time (with some urging from der Grampa), they made the effort.

(Alex the Elder stayed at the trailer with a pal of his, promising to stay out of trouble.)

The good news?  Magic Mommy was impressed with the store.  Not only was what we had on sale very nice, even after two days of this three-day weekend (yes, Friday counts, trust me on this), she also liked how friendly the staff was to her and her family.  Apparently, they had visited our service deli, and when William was asked how old he was, he told their server that he was going to have his seventh birthday this week.

The server said "Excuse me, I'll be right back," and was gone for just a moment.  She came back with a small slice of cake, as an early present.  William was thrilled.

Magic Mommy hadn't tried the self-checkout lanes anywhere before, and found what we had very simple to understand.  All and all, a pleasant shopping experience for everyone.

And no one screamed at each other, not even once!   :o

I started to watch Letters From Iwo Jima and immediately fell asleep.  Perhaps I'll save it for another day.  It doesn't look like I'll be getting my new batch of DVDs today - a shame, as there are a couple I really want to see.

DR SWW, that's very sweet.  I, of course, did blame everything on our DR Jose and encouraged DR singdaw to do the same.

I just tore all the music off my score shelves and I found the missing Offenbach score!  DR Jose, you must stop by tomorrow and see it if you can.  I plan to sit on my duff and enjoy my last day of freedom before Jury Duty!

Works for me! I really think self-employed folk should be exempted from Jury Duty, but several years ago the laws in New York changed.  I think it was during Giuliani's regime.  Speaking of Rudy, I never thought he was a good mayor until 9/11 when he won my respect as an amazing symbol of grace under enormous pressure.  I believe he's coasting on that image for his presidential ambitions, but, truthfully, I think he would be a president similar to the petty mayor he was before 9/11.

Evening all.

I had a very hard time sleeping last night.  I was up at four and almost decided to just give up the attempt and stay awake.  I did for about an hour then went back in and laid back down.

I woke up at about 8:30 and got up and started going through all of the mail I received yesterday since I had the Post Office hold everything.

I sorted out the bills and paid them then turned to all of the cards I received.  Thank you all so very much.  I keep checking the book that's on line for Mom, thank you also to those who signed it..

I then took the dogs to the dog park.  I don't want them to get used to going on both weekend days but they were so good.  They will have to used to not going when I pick a weekend to paint.

After I brought them back home, I went shopping at Walmart.  One of the things I had to get was dog food and treats.  The toilet has been making noises again so I bought some Plummers Putty and a new flapper.  I had to drain the tank and let it dry out before I put the putty all around the hole (for want of a better word) and installed the new flapper.

I don't hear the dripping noise any more so I think I fixed the problem.

Then I did a little grocery shopping for milk and bread.  I had a very hard time with that.  I was in tears by the time I made it back to the car.  So many things I know Mom liked and I wanted to get them for her.

Putting the things in the fridge caused another flood of tears.  Who knew that seeing some of the things I made for both of us would cause such strong emotions?

After that, I fell asleep in the chair watch Ghost Whisperer.  I think I saw the season ender.

I also finely saw (and recorded to DVD) the Biography of Meat Loaf that I TIVOed back on 4/24.  I'm hoping to finely get the picture I've always wanted of him with his long hair and lace cuffs by using the screen shot program I have.

"War Of The Worlds" looks and sounds wonderful.  The voice of Richard Burton  is still used.  Rock Opera that really works. AMAZING.

DR Danise - Elmore lives in NYC.  The penalty for jaywalking IS the death penalty!

 ::)

I know you're going through a rough patch.  But by your reports, you seem to be pulling though fairly well, even though it might not feel like it.  You are in my thoughts.

I think I'm doing ok.  It's just a wave here and there.  Like her cigarettes and lighters.  What do I do with them?  Toss them out?  I know those things are expensive and I think there is at least a carton of them left.

Then I saw the ash tray had some of her butts in it.  The last cigs my Mom smoked at home.  I know I should have thrown them out but I put them in a bag and put them in her drawer.  I don't know why but just couldn't bring myself to get rid of them.

Nah, the best way is to say you don't believe in judging other people and you could never convict anyone. That will get you off the jury a lot quicker
