Sunday afternoon greetings!  At the end of my workday yesterday, I proceeded directy to the home of DH Richard's older brother for the high school graduation party of our DN (dear niece) Lauren.  Many relatives and friends and a good time was had by all.

This morning I had a nice sleep-in 'til almost 8am, had about 3 swallows of coffee, and got a phone call from the nursing supervisor at the retirement community where both my mother and aunt live.  My aunt was on her way, by ambulance, to the hospital near us, so I threw on some clothes and got there shortly after she did.  Her immediate problem, not life-threatening, is an attack of colitis.  They released her with a prescription for a new medication.  I got her settled in her home and went to visit my mom (they're sisters) and am now home myself.  Soon I will have to call my cousin in Georgia and give him an update on his mother.

Good Day!

It's much cooler today as tropical storm Barry has been sending his cool air, rain, and wind up our way. No complaints here. The cool air has been lovely for a Sunday in June.

And why am I logging on so late in the day for the first time? Easy to answer: some time during the early morning hours, the entire area of town where I live lost electric power. It did not come back on until almost 2 p.m., so I read my newspapers this morning by candlelight, and once there was some light (it's overcast today because of rain), I read two magazines, portions of two books I am in the process of reading, and then did some napping.

My DSL connection does offer 20 hours of dial-up time per month in case there is a power outage, but I thought it would make a nice change of pace to read all morning rather than surfing the net on the computer. So I didn't turn on the laptop at all.

Once I did get power back, I prepared my lunch and then began some viewing. First I completed watching the interview with actor  Graham Crowden on the IF. . . .  DVD. It was filmed this year, and he's still hale and hardy (didn't give his age, but he must be in his 80s now). He had lovely reminiscenes of Lindsay Anderson and Malcolm McDowell to share. I enjoyed his comments.

Next up was THURSDAY'S CHILDREN, the documentary on the Royal School for the Deaf which won an Oscar. It's a very heart-warming and inspiring look at how deaf four year olds get their first instrcutions in making sounds and leaning how words fit together to make sentences. It was narrated by Richard Burton.

And then, of course, I had to treat myself to one more CLOSER episode, this one dealing with the grisly death of a male porn star infected with HIV. Superb episode.

Temperature is in the 80s today.  Not a hint of breeze off the water.  The weather is suppose to change late tonight, with rain tomorrow.  At the moment, the cats and I think that would be a lovely idea.

I'm back from a lovely dinner with Mr Kevin Spirtas.  Tales were told and reputations made and broken.  It's the best cheer up, along with the kind words of my fellow DRs, a person could wish.

I've spent last evenng and this afternoon watching the great Masterpiece Theatre production of Balzac's black comedy COUSIN BETTE, with the incomparable battle-axe Margaret Tyzack and Helen Mirren.  Absolutely wonderful and far superior to the Des MacAnuff film with Jessica Lang, which confuses it with Zola's novel NANA. I think I'll reread Balzac's novel as well.

Whew. Long day. We had a celebration following church today, as we ordained one of our members into the ministry today. That meant I couldn't lock up until everyone left, which was about 3:45 p.m.

Well...

I managed to organize my boxes-o-stuff at my parents new hour in a little over three hours.  I emptied some boxes.  I organized some contents of some boxes.  I put some books on the shelves.  And I did another quick inventory of what I still had there.  Yes, it's a lot of stuff, but after another visit or two - or three - I should be able to get it all down to a manageable "volume".

And then I took on the driving duties for the trip back up to Fairfax.  The rain did cause some slow-down every couple of miles, but the traffic never stopped.

And now we're all at my brother's house waiting for the birthday dinner to arrive - Chinese take out!  ;)

We got some of tropical storm Barry's leftovers, but other than breezy conditions and some rain (but not heavy), it wasn't bad here. Hope our Florida residents had similar experiences.

THE SOPRANOS and THE TUDORS are on tonight. I think most everything else is a rerun. (Not sure if ENTOURAGE is the season three finale or if it's a rerun. I'll have to check the guide.)

I'll finish the ANGEL episode in the meantime, and then watch that STUDIO 60 episode from Thursday night that I haven't gotten to yet.
