Can someone tell me whatever happened to Radio Shack?
Am I misremembering....or wasn't there a time when Radio Shack was the place to go to get things "inexpensively" that were way overpriced elsewhere....especially comparing Radio Shack brand to "brand names"?
At any rate, I've come to terms with having to wait...up to 8 days, for my HDMI cable to arrive (although I hope only GOOD things will happen).
The thing is, I'm getting my HD DVD player TODAY (I think). And I won't be able to fully integrate it into my system without the HDMI cable.
So...I went out on a power walk this morning....1.5 miles to City Center Plaza where there is a Radio Shack.
And what do I find? The in-house prices range from $49.99 to $119.95...."What brand would you prefer?", I was asked.
"The one I ordered online for $5.61", I replied. "I'll be patient and wait for it!"
Radio Shack....feh!
Well, the only times I ever go to Radio Shack are to plug-adapters for my headphones, or a splitter for my phone. However, even some of those items have been "prettied" up, and they're charging more for them.
As for cables - HMDIs, RCAs, 1/4-inchers, etc... The pricing of those items has always bewildered me. I remember when they used to be somewhat reasonably/understandably priced, but I think once the whole "high tech audio and video" market started to boom, then so did the prices for those cables. A friend of mine, used to make his own, and he used to make some for me too. I still have a couple of 20-foot 1/4-inch audio cables that he made - my cost (which was his cost) was only $1.75 per cable. The same cable at an audio supply store: $24.95 - and that was for the "cheap brand".
But there are still a few cheaper-priced items at Radio Shack. Alas, they're usually not ones that you want nor need.
*I've found that Target has audio and video accessories at decent prices. (Most of them are from GE.)
